By reilo Go To PostIt was AdBlock's latest update at fault all along but man was everyone was quick to blame YT. I don't even know how YouTube would increase CPU usage to inflict bad performance on purpose. Whole story was nonsensical from the start but man did everyone buy it.I haven't read the story so apologies, but you could potentially intentionally exploit a bug within a plugin to do something like eat CPU cycles. The fault might be within the plugin itself but the blame would still rightfully go to the exploiter.

Nah man, Occam's Razor at play here that the fault was on a bad AdBlock update.
By Kibner Go To PostAnd YouTube has been know to update their ad blocker detection code multiple times a day.Block, yes, induce CPU cycles is crazy. Google wouldn't be stupid enough to think they could get away with it.
This has happened to the Home Mini I have in my bathroom a few weeks ago. I waited to see if another update was going to be pushed to sort it out, but the Google Community forum suggested contacting their live chat. I did that and they're telling me to ship it to them for an exchange and upgrade to the newer model.
The chat rep had me send a video of the device not working with a case number written on paper within the vid. That's their process to determine if you qualify for an exchange. So weird. But it worked.

The broader SEO industry, meanwhile, is now filled with companies that are using or intend to use generative AI to further optimize types of content that already feel formulaic even when written by humans. Bing and Google are now themselves rolling out AI-generated search results. The possible end result of all of this is that robots will continue writing a huge number of articles to please other robots, and that search will become even less usable than it already is.
yup.

stop reading the comments of the libertarian tinted developers like Tim Sweeney. That guy is a moron.
a) noone is gonna bother with another market place or sideloading
b) the iOS ecosystem for developers is still best in class
Only the likes of Epic who want their cake and eat it, too are throwing a fuss.
It's the equivalent of companies claiming they built their entire business from scratch by themselves -- it's never the case.
My last thoughts on this:
If developers do not want to be charged any sort of amount for in-app subscriptions, then they should be willing to give up API access to:
- Push notifications
- Keychain / SSO
- Apple Pay
- Test Flight
- Location services
- Bluetooth
- etc

Have never and will never give a shit about what Sweeney is saying, but when you've got John fucking Gruber questioning your shit, saying the devs he knows are unhappy, something is wrong.
Every recent Six Colours apple report has called developer relations out as a problem in recent years.
Platforms are a give and take, Apple benefits as much from having the best developers building for their platform. If they want to be petty and drop support for APIs, then that's on them

App developers asking a lot about "what about me?" while they never ask "what about the consumer?"
I've been in this too long to see what everyone is actually saying and none of the arguments you hear from app developers is discussing how any of the things they want benefits the people using the apps.

Anyone has any experience with using SAS in a PC?
I have a StorSimple 8100 at work with a lot of SAS drives that's been deactivated and my boss has given me the green light to grab a few drives.
Would love to get them for my Plex server at home. Thought 9TB would be enough but somehow I only have 500GB left...

Anyone have any idea why my laptop is now holding the charge when plugged in, rather than either charging or draining?
Kinda wish it would just drain, at least then I'd know that it's fucked and needs a hardware replacement.

does Windows just say "plugged in, not charging"?
How old is the laptop and how often were you discharging the battery? What percent is it stuck at now? Try a different charger?

By diehard Go To Postdoes Windows just say "plugged in, not charging"?Just under 3 years old, does discharging just mean letting it get to 0%? If so, pretty much never. It's basically draining at the normal rate, so if I unplug it for a few minutes it'll go from 25% to 22%, then when I plug it in it'll just stay at 22%. Tried two chargers, both doing the same thing.

Tried two chargers, both doing the same thing.First thing to do is try to see what the health of the battery is. Lots of manufacturers will have an application to help diagnose that, or it is viewable in the BIOS. Windows also has a battery health tool you can use, described here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/caring-for-your-battery-in-windows-2db3e37f-5e7d-488e-9086-ed15320519e4#:~:text=Get%20a%20detailed%20battery%20report
Had the same problem with my work laptop a few weeks ago after a windows update. Hard reset/hold the power button for 40 seconds did the job

Ran a diagnostic in the boot-up menu, says there's a problem with the AC adapter's unknown wattage. Guessing since it hasn't worked with two chargers it won't work when I try it again with the Dell one that came with the laptop. Will drain and remove the battery when I'm back home.
Might just get a new laptop if it'll cost too much for fixes to the port, battery or motherboard, not very impressed with the hardware at all. First the ring that keeps the power jack in the socket dislodges, plastic on the charger decouples between the head and the lead exposing the wire, then keys start falling off the board, now this.
@diehard, tried that earlier, according to both Windows and Dell there's nothing wrong with the battery's capacity.
It could be related to faulty circuitry. If it's USB-C I'm assuming you have tried other ports?
After removing the battery, also hold the power button down for 10+ seconds.

It actually depends on the laptop. I would say that the majority of new laptops support USB PD on multiple ports.
For nearly $4000 after taxes I would rather buy 3 high quality monitors for my desk setup. Also, Nilay loves his hair, huh?

I've always thought that AR/VR should be good for visually impaired people, myopia and the like. It's funny though I didn't realise that you can't wear your glasses with the headset on, you have to send in your prescription and they send out lenses. Which would probably exclude those with ultra high prescriptions!

On some upcoming weekend, I think I am going to switch from Win11 to Fedora Sway Atomic for my home pc: https://www.fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops/sway/
A tiling window manager sounds fun. The atomic nature of it also means I can experiment with it as much as I'd like and always have a good point to revert to. Gaming support should be good, too, except for the games on this list that don't don't run on Linux because of anti-cheat: https://areweanticheatyet.com
Might not be this coming weekend because I have some household chores to do. But soon!

If you have a 99% full external HDD that is exhibiting symptoms of bad sectors(some files have become partially corrupt, un-transferrable), does freeing up space on that drive change how the remaining data is stored?
