Bought an LG 48 inch oled monitor during prime day or whatever it was last week.
My 3060ti can barely game on this thing, but god bless all these upscaling techs. This thing is glorious. Kinda sucks it doesn't have smart tv stuff built in, so I can't watch 4k amazon tv on it, but whatever. I'll get a device that lets me some day.

Congrats joefu. Interesting choice, were there other OLED / LCD screens in contention? How come you went with this one / this size?
It was "cheap" lol. Was on sale for 799?
I also wanted to replace the TV I was using as a monitor, so wanted a pretty big screen

Nice, welcome to the OLED monitor owners club. May your blacks be perfect and your image retention temporary.
Anyone have a fold phone? Had my eye on the Fold 5 for a while but I just watched MKBHD's video on the OnePlus Open and I think it looks a lot better. It's weakest aspect is probably the camera, but I might be the worst photographer in the world so that's not really a concern for me.
I'm not ready for a foldable yet. Samsung is on their 5th iteration, Google is on their first, OnePlus also on their first. I would like to see how Samsung and Google react to the impoved screen (less visible crease) that OnePlus has. And the price is crazy still. $1699 for a OnePlus device? I remember my OnePlus One and Two being cheap. Yeah I know, tech has changed, inflation etc, but I think OnePlus priced their phone way too high.

I never really cared before but my new job is gonna have me commuting a lot by train, so I wanted the bigger screen for watching tv/movies or just easily being able to multitask. Texting on one side while still browsing Slaent
By Rob Go To PostWhy notDislike the form factor, more prone to wear and tear and it going kaput because of additional cabling, hinges, etc., too bulky when it's collapsed, and crazy expensive.
Also I don't reckon anyone will solve the seam problem where it's not noticeable.
And lastly I don't envision the UX ever being good or app developers taking advantage of it.
By Rob Go To PostWhy notBecause Apple isn't making one.

However I'm one of those that likes big screens for media consumption (no, not movies or shows) and they are improving the tech, I can't imagine what it will be in 5 years from now on.

I thought I had figured out how to get port forwarding to work on my Fortigate for remote Sunshine access, but alas, it does not work. The steps I have taken:
1) Created a Firewall IP Address for my host machine
2) Created multiple Virtual IPs for each separate group of ports that I have to forward for Sunshine
3) Created a Virtual IP Group to more easily use the VIPs created in 2)
4) Created a new Firewall Policy to map incoming requests to the VIP Group created in 3)
I have tried using both the internal and WAN interfaces for the VIPs and even made the incoming firewall policy completely open just to rule out me misconfiguring that bit.
I am stumped. Probably need to see if I can find someone who actually works with this day-to-day because I'm not sure what I am missing. Sunshine's host logs don't register anything trying to connect and I don't see any logs in the Fortigate showing that it denied a connection (though I may very well just not be looking in the right place for it or have logging enabled to the proper degree).
Will come back to this another day.

The Apple Silicon Macs are truly wonderful machines and worth every penny if the software you use is compatible with them. Laptops with 10+ hours of battery life while watching video streams.
And the fans, if the one you are looking at has them, rarely need to turn on. Quiet and cool.

By Rob Go To PostBiggest surprise to me is a headphone jackThe M2 MBA also has one. It's what convinced me to go ahead and grab it as my first Apple product since an iPod Nano in like 2005.
Guess Apple isn’t feeling courageous anymore
Fucked with the firewall a bit more today. Used https://www.canyouseeme.org to check to see if my port was truly open. It wasn't. However, the block is not being recorded by my router/firewall/gateway like it does when it blocks other things. I think this means that it is something further upstream towards the ISP that is blocking it. Like the AT&T modem box thing that provides the WAN for my router.
I ran out of mental energy to look into that today, but that is my next best guess.

On a Palo I would create a NAT policy (but also assign a dedicated IP) to something like that. I know this doesn't help you.
What port is it using? Possibly to change that to one that might not be blocked by your ISP?

I fucking hate chrome. Can't even disable the download bubble flag in the new release. Well, time to see how Brave is on dekstop.

I also tried to setup an ipsec VPN last night and the connection from my phone to that VPN isn't being established, either. Something is getting ate up and there does not appear to be anything blocked by the firewall because I have it set to log everything it blocks and there isn't anything.
By s y Go To PostI fucking hate chrome. Can't even disable the download bubble flag in the new release. Well, time to see how Brave is on dekstop.Have to hope they don't enable a cryptominer when you are using it or when it goes to idle.
Just use Edge or Firefox. Or even Ungoogled-Chromium before Brave.
By reilo Go To PostBrave does that!?It does some fuckery as you use it to generate crypto currency. No fucking clue. The devs/owners are very into the crypto scene, so I wouldn't trust them to not hijack the browser for their own enrichment, in any case.
This is a several year old article, but it shows how scummy they have been in the recent past: https://www.kevinmuldoon.com/do-not-use-brave-browser/
A friend linked me this article. It looks like the steps I followed but this gives more context about them. Will have to double check these settings after work: https://community.fortinet.com/t5/FortiGate/Technical-Tip-Configure-port-forwarding-using-FortiGate-VIPs/ta-p/196734
I took a break from port forwarding to getting IPv6 working, since my gf requested it. I don't know if i did it correctly but it works! I went for SLAAC with DHCPv6 stateless server because it seemed the least fussy while still doing everything I think I need it to? (some of you network experts here might need to chime in lol)
In any case, I am able to go to https://test-ipv6.com/ and pass with 10/10!

Earlier this week, YouTube confirmed “a global effort” to crack down on ad blockers — and it’s already affecting the ad blocker business. A new report from Wired suggests that the crackdown is causing users to uninstall and install ad blockers at a record pace as they search for one that actually works:*laughs at psy*
Previously unreported figures from ad blocking companies indicate that YouTube’s crackdown is working, with hundreds of thousands of people uninstalling ad blockers in October. The available data suggests last month saw a record number of adblockers uninstalled—and also a record for new ad blocker installs as people sought alternatives that wouldn’t trigger YouTube’s dreaded popup.

Brave/unlock/YouTube ReVanced still kicking and I have yet to receive a single warning(or ad).
Just got an email that Dashlane Free limits you to 25 saved passwords
These password managers are garbage. This whole industry is “put out product that people like and use, then slowly remove things and force people to pay”
Never used dashlane myself because they didn’t support browsers or something

Should really get one for my parents, although it would have to be colour.
I've been supplying them with whatever cartridges-cost-more-than-the-printer inkjet printer I could find over the years because they barely use it anyway and so the head will inevitably get jammed and have to be cleaned, often times manually, which is a pain in the arse.

The blue versus green bubble debate may finally be winding down. Apple says, in 2024, the iPhone will add support for RCS messaging, the messaging standard used by most Android phones, according to a report from 9to5Mac.Legit shocking.
“Later next year, we will be adding support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard as currently published by the GSM Association,” an Apple spokesperson tells 9to5Mac. “We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS. This will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.”
The iPhone adopting RCS could enable support for read receipts, typing indicators, high-res images and videos, and more, when sending texts between iPhone and Android devices, as noted by 9to5Mac. Apple tells the outlet it will let users share locations in text threads as well.
They’ll treat RCS as a green bubble, whoever wrote that is crazy if they don’t think they will.
RCS not having E2EE sucks too, that’s table stakes for messaging these days
