Me, for a decade: Spotify UX sucks! They don't even focus on the music, too focused on algorithmic shit

By Pho Kew Go To PostI think it’s less the tech and more just these dumbass companies trying to get all this info on you.Indeed, this is so true. Everything needs a password and accounts...
Why tf do I need a login for an electric toothbrush?
Printers are the worst because why do I need to type a password on a 5cmx10cm screen?
By Laboured Go To PostlolBut....why does everything try to be TikTok?
By rossonero Go To PostIndeed, this is so true. Everything needs a password and accounts…Because is a extremely popular app that is starting to bet banned in some countries and so other companies will try and move into that void?

Right, but it's a music app. This feels the exact same as when everyone tried to ape Snapchat's stories.
It made sense for Instagram, but WhatsApp, Spotify, and a whole host of entirely unrelated services didn't need that bloat.
At least in those cases it didn't make the app worse, this on the other hand?
I don't love the Apple music app, I think it has a few issues in terms of UX and features that I really wish they'd ape from Spotify (Connect), but if this is where Spotify is going I'm glad I made the switch.

Listening to music is 90% of the time a personal solo activity but Spotify's UX prioritizes making itself a social app and focusing on making it a group activity and it makes no sense
By LFMartins86 Go To PostBecause is a extremely popular app that is starting to bet banned in some countries and so other companies will try and move into that void?Yeah I get that, but I mean we have Spotify having TikTok elements and Mercedes having the app in their new car. Some things just don't mix with it and companies don't understand both their own and TikTok's demographics.
It reeks of "how do you do, fellow kids" and I don't understand how they think it could work.
How often do the Sony Xm4/Xm5 headphones go on sale? I haven't seen a sale since the holidays for them...
By rossonero Go To PostIndeed, this is so true. Everything needs a password and accounts…Tiktok is taking hella time and attention from everyone else’s apps so it’s time for the other apps to bite all of tiktok features poorly to fight back

i always assumed everyone knew they were fake, like that commercial with kobe jumping over a car back in the day. I thought the embellishment was the goal, to try and get people to buy the phone and try it themselves.
The only surprising thing to me is that one of the biggest, if not the biggest tech youtuber, who's entire career involves cameras and photography, bought it.
Maybe this comes from ignorance as I don't really know much about photography, but I imagined a camera capable of zooming into the moon with outstanding clarity and detail would absolutely demolish any phone in a real-world camera test.

What's in that agreement? We'll use your art to train an AI to make us money in the future without telling you? I wonder if someone'll try a retroactive lawsuit
By Not Go To PostWhat's in that agreement?Basically that Adobe can use your work however they damn well please
The enforceability / legality of thse agreement are oft debated, but the whole point is that a litigant would need deep pockets just to fight it and that's the calculation they make.
Installed my old first gen Eero at my in-laws because the $200 Asus router they got just wasn't cutting it and wouldn't reach downstairs for a Ring install, and wow, it's not even the best mesh network around anymore but it's a huge improvement in wifi quality.
wake me when we actually get star wars holograms that can be projected into a seat next to you or whatever
that said, if this is the brick ipod version of an AR headset, I'd be excited to see what the nano looks like. unless this is another newton. also if anyone can tank a failure right now it's the biggest company on earth

Magic Leap is not doing well knowing Apple is coming out with a competitor so they're running PR off of the rumor mill already. Someone ask Magic Leap if they're okay.

all the blue check crypto chowderheads in the replies made me want to barf. they should all be rounded up
Last year, I wrote about Coinbase’s lack of transparency in a crypto ecosystem that promised so much of it. Big claims about ‘democratizing finance’ turned out to be money losers, and regular investors didn’t know that Coinbase’s buddies like Marc Andreessen had big stakes in many of these coins.https://startupsandecon.substack.com/p/the-coinbase-curse-revisited-deadcoins
A year later, has anything changed? I went back to see how those Coinbase listings are doing now, and if Coinbase learned anything by changing its policies around disclosure.
The same VCs propping up winners and losers with a fuckton of infusion of cash are also doing the same to Crypto? Woooooow shocking news everyone
Just found out that you can't have multiple user accounts on an iPad unless you are using a special education version. Lame.
Thinking about buying a new TV. I don't actually watch TV and I game on a £100 Dell G2722. Therefore, my extremely broad criteria would be: would it be better than the monitor I currently game on?
Getting ads for this new Amazon TV. Any better options out there at a similar price?
I'm googling 'best 4k HDR budget tv' but you just get SEO results.

By Pedja Go To PostDoes anyone here use any of the wireless Android Auto dongles like the AA Wireless?I did not even know it was a thing.
By Kibner Go To PostI did not even know it was a thing. There are versions for wireless CarPlay too and some support both. The guy behind AA Wireless had previously made an app that connected your phone to a second phone that you kept connected via wire and ended up developing the AA Wireless dongle. Motorola has one too but it doesn't seem to be officially launched here.
“You will need to download/save any images that you wish to save if they no longer adhere to these Terms,” Imgur wrote in its blog post. “Most notably, this would include explicit/pornographic content.”hrmmm
The blog post doesn’t offer much detail about how Imgur is defining “old, unused, and inactive content.” Depending on the definition, this could cover a huge portion of non-pornographic imagery uploaded to the service over the years and whose removal could have a massive impact on forums and other online communities that have linked to and embedded it. We’ve reached out to Imgur for clarification on this point, but a spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The online counseling service BetterHelp has agreed to return $7.8 million to customers to settle with the Federal Trade Commission for sharing health data it had promised to keep private — including information about mental health challenges — with companies including Facebook and Snapchat. The proposed FTC order announced Thursday also limits how the California-based company may share consumer data in the future.BetterHelp was a Facebook op lol
BetterHelp said the settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing and that the behavior for which it was sanctioned is standard for the industry.
Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, however, said BetterHelp betrayed consumers’ most personal health information for profit.
