By Pedja Go To PostI'd be interested in the SE2 if it didn't have the big chine and forehead. And if it looked better, not a fan of the iPhone 8 design.I can ignore any shortcommings as long as it has Touch ID. I can't with Face ID
I don't really understand Apple's Ipad lineup. They keep improving the Air to the point where it makes the Mini and Pro almost obsolete to most users. The new M1 Air is only $100 more expensive than the Mini, but is vastly better and the Pro is $200 more expensive for a marginally better product.

I have forgotten what the term for it in business is, but Apple basically want you to buy the Air over the mini.
When you compare the two products and see that the Air is only 100 more, you are more likely to buy it. Makes you think you are getting a bargain.
Apple has a history of doing it. And still do it with the iPod touch, which remains mainly to make any person who is thinking of buying it just get an iPhone instead.
You also see it with console makers a lot.
The Mini is their best selling iPad IIRC. It's for people who want something tiny to slip in to a bag, and has been hugely successful even when they didn't update it for years on end. It's perfectly fine, great even, for what it is and how people will use it.
I don't understand the Air to 11inch Pro difference anymore. It's internally nearly the same, bar 120hz screen?

There's no more 11" iPad Pro and the Air tops out at 256GB vs 2TB. You can also choose to 16GB of RAM on the Pro. The screen on the iPad Pro is also mini-LED with a higher resolution, HDR and 120Hz. The Air does not have 120Hz.

Either way, there's signifcant screen differences. If you're working in Photography/Film flow, you'll care about those.
If you wanted to know if your $500 headphones still work if you put it into the washing machine i can now tell you that yes they do.

This is fucked up. This is how you lose to YouTube.

Mkbhd saying the same thing. Almost 0 reason to get a Pro over an Air. Even the 2020 Air was an iPad pro killer.
the main problem with the ipad air is the awful amount of storage, and to upgrade you have to get the 256gb model for $750. Only $50 less than the ipad pro, at which point it's like why not.
i think the play is to just look for the 2020 ipad air model on sale, who really cares about m1 chip

It's useless.
If all you do is watch YouTube sometimes then okay, sure iPad Air is fine. But if you're actively making things with one? Nah. Just dumb to get a base model Air.
Cloud storage eliminated me caring about physical storage a long time ago. I don't think I've ever used more than 15gb of space on my pro
By WoodenLung Go To PostYeah 50 dollars for 120hz seems like it's very worth it. 60hz displays in fucking 2022.Appl innit.

It's useless. There are a tonne of creative things you can do with 64GB. Photos and film aren't the grand scope of creativity. There's also a huge scope of "Pro" work that isn't that storage intensive. Hell, I use far more of my 256GB on my 12.9 Pro on non work shit than on work stuff, and I use that devices *constantly*.

Regardless, it's not quite $50 more for the 120hz screen, you also drop back down to 128GB on the entry Pro 11.
The Verge review of the Mac Studio makes it sound incredible (if you're ok without expansions). The Verge review of the Studio Display makes it sound very rough, especially at its price.
By reilo Go To PostDamn, yes! Please give iPads a reason to be this powerful.
Murder.
Inversely, the GPU benchmarks didn't really stack up to the charts Apple was showing comparing it to a 3090. Roughly half on Geekbench

Someone tore down the studio and found that the SSD isn't actually soldered on. I do wish Apple would go back to technically upgradable storage on their laptops
A group of Facebook engineers identified a “massive ranking failure” that exposed as much as half of all News Feed views to “integrity risks” over the past six months, according to an internal report on the incident obtained by The Verge."bug" or "feature"
The engineers first noticed the issue last October, when a sudden surge of misinformation began flowing through the News Feed, notes the report, which was shared inside the company last week. Instead of suppressing dubious posts reviewed by the company’s network of outside fact-checkers, the News Feed was instead giving the posts distribution, spiking views by as much as 30 percent globally. Unable to find the root cause, the engineers watched the surge subside a few weeks later and then flare up repeatedly until the ranking issue was fixed on March 11th.
In addition to posts flagged by fact-checkers, the internal investigation found that, during the bug period, Facebook’s systems failed to properly demote nudity, violence, and even Russian state media the social network recently pledged to stop recommending in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
so did IG just blacklist firefox altogether? embeds dont work anymore but they work fine in IE and Chrome
Any recs for FiOS modems that will work with Verizon? My new apartment will officially have it. Just modem, no router.
I've started smart-ifying my flat. Going for all local control/Zigbee/LAN solutions because the idea of a company's servers going offline worries me.
Home-assistant is a lot of fun and a bit frustrating all at the same time

By JesalR Go To PostA quarter grand for a modem? It's how they convince you to rent one of their shittier modems for $10 a month.
You're most of the way there after a year of service then anyway.
That said, given FiOS is fibre, are you 100% sure you actually need a modem? I'm almost certain you should be able to skip a modem entirely

I've just been researching online but apparently from everything that I gather. I'll need to call but I am not having luck finding a fiber compatible modem that works with Verizon.
I just have no desire to use their routers.

Idk if you get the offer but I’m on “Gigabit 2.0” as they brand it now. Or Whole Home Wifi”..one of those two
My router rental is free and it always has been with a gigabit plan unless you’re not trying to get that.

Just ensure they install an ONT with ethernet when they do the install. Supposedly all modern ones use ethernet, but just to be safe

Before - xDSL
After - xDSL + 4G outdoor modem / router (Mikrotik SXT LTE, dual WAN setup)
I might be able to squeeze out a couple more mbits with fine alignment, but I'm very happy with the gains, considering this 4G router has a lowly cat4 LTE modem. I plan to swap it out for a cat6 for that sweet 2x carrier aggregation, possibly a cat12, though it's probably overkill.
Probably the best I can hope for until fibre in 2063.

Router didn't cost a thing, $89/mo flat fee. no contract.
