Meta’s employees have been asked to contribute to the change in other ways. In November, they were asked to sign up for Project Aria, an effort to test some new augmented reality glasses, according to an internal memo that was reviewed by The New York Times.Lmaaaaoooooooo
Employees could “earn points and win swag” by wearing the glasses and gathering data through the device’s cameras and sensors, the memo said. To reduce people’s privacy concerns about being filmed with the glasses, employees were asked to wear a T-shirt identifying themselves as a “research participant” and were told not to view or listen to the raw data captured by the glasses, according to the memo.
As some people know here, I work in the IT department of the department of education of the regional government of the Azores.
Most of the 42 high schools websites are hosted in our servers and are build following our templates but some schools host their websites on local servers.
We got a call from the IT department of the regional government warning us that one of those schools had their site vulnerable to SQL injections, one of the most basic things to get protected against.
We contacted the IT guy at the school to give us access to the admin account so we could see what was wrong.
My colleague got an angry phone call from a teacher from the school who was in charge of the site saying we had no business asking the IT guy about that, he was the one with access and everything had to go through him.
My supervisor had to contact the teacher and then he gave us the admin password.
It was the last name of the teacher in lower caps...
I absolutely hate teachers who think because they teach word and Excel to young kids know a lot everything that has to with IT.

By DiPro Go To Postjust nice build quality that can last 5 years for basic everyday use. browsing, video, basic office work. You will want a business-class laptop, in that case. That's the ThinkPad T-Series if you want full-size Lenovo and, I think, the X-series for an ultra-portable. You don't have to get Lenovo, other brands can also be fine, just be sure to get something with metal hinges.

Portugal has been hit with a series of high profile cyber attacks on the last days.
Confia Media (owner of some big newspapers and TV channels) had all their websites down during the weekend, Vodafone Portugal had all their services taken down from cell phone services, Internet and cable TV since Monday and they aren't completely up yet, they have more than 4M clients (around 40% of the population).
Another media group was attacked today but they stayed up.

Anybody got 5G home internet?
I've had fibre at this address in the past, but due to how things played out I had to take a new deal out with standard broadband and it just isn't cutting it. I've looked around different providers, none of them now offer fibre. I can however get a 5G router, and judging by my girlfriend's phone, the speed is about 4x faster than any fibre I could get if it were available, about 30x faster than the normal boradband I currently have.

Can't really help you, although I did look into 5G at home a couple of months ago, when I realized I'm probably never getting fibre where I'm at.
5G coverage is very good around these parts, however it's still very much a new service, so companies mostly offer 5G plans tailored for phone / mobile use. Anyway, it would work for me as a fast backup internet option for when I'm in a big hurry to download something ... it's actually what I already do with my current 4G phone / mobile internet, since it's about 2x as fast as my home internet. Infinite sadness.
Anyway, ideally I'd want a 5G modem ... and they're pricey as fuck. The "cheap" ones don't even allow for external antennas. The whole 5G thing feels like it needs a year or two before it becomes a viable home internet option, but I imagine it's further along in your corner of the world, Vapes.
The short of it is that my old fiber was in my Mum’s name since she was with EE for her phone and added that on to her account. When she passed, I dealt with all the house related paperwork and accounts and my sister dealt with everything debt related, in this case phone bills and internet were tied together. Anyway my sister closed the account for the internet instead of giving me the option to take it over. On the face of it, figured it’d be fine and I’d get a better deal.
So I ordered fiber through a provider online. Then they got in touch with me a day or two later saying there were no fiber ports available currently, but they could get me standard broadband for a fairly reasonable price. All on the promise that they would upgrade me to fiber later (30~ days)
Later has come, been about 3 months nearly. The broadband I have is fucking dogshit in terms of speed and reliability. Looking around for deals through all providers in my area and none offer fiber for the address anymore.
Wasn’t so short afterall, ah well.

Gotcha. That sucks, but it sounds like the infrastructure is there at least and you'll likely be able to get fibre in the near future. No such luck here, I live in the only fibre-less pocket of land in the radius of like 2km and nobody seems to be in a hurry to finish the project they started 10 years ago.
What kind of 5G at home offers are you dealing with over there?

Hottest going through this right now, fucking 20mb shared as virgin isn't round here and it's all the old copper lines. My probably is that EE signal is shit round here so was worried my broadband would be shit too if I went down that route. In the end had ive decided to get my own line to the exchange sorted until fibre comes
By Lunatic Go To PostStarlink is an option in the UK isn't it? I mean if your parents had a house that is.Hadn’t considered it, but the price is a no from me, didn’t even bother checking availability in my area.
£90 a month for 50-150mbps download, plus a high up front cost. Nah.

For 5G, I can get a mobile hotspot and 300mbps download for £50 upfront and £35 a month.
For a better 5G router, it goes up to £60 a month. Not sure what the major difference is between the two.
No data caps either for those deals.

Like you buy calibration software but you also need to get into advanced factory settings for a given display. That shit is not something for a filthy casual.

Typically, though, the settings in the "Movie" preset on decent TV's gets you like 95% of the way to a good calibration. Figure out what settings that mode uses and copy them to your "Gaming" setting and you should be more or less good to go.

Yeah I don't need it to be perfect, just better than having it turned off altogether
Just used some settings I found on reddit, will boot Sifu up and see if it's any better since it has a few screens of greyish font on top of a white background, which is typically where it was all going wrong
edit: 40 quid for a calibration disc lol. Could pay Mark Cerny to do it himself for less than that.
Seems Sony have a thing where you can download an image onto the TV and use it as a basis for fiddling with the settings, might try that if necessary.

I picked up the Apple Watch Series 7 last week, it’s so legit. I upgraded from the Apple Watch Series 3 so it’s a pretty big jump.
I love this thing, it’s what the Apple Watch should have felt like from the start. I’ve been trying to get back into fitness between tracking going to the gym, tracking calories, tracking my walks with the dog and using Apple Fitness+ for Yoga/Meditation.
I also picked up the Apple Leather Wallet with MagSafe this past weekend to use with the leather iPhone 12 case I have. It’s actually so nice not having to carry around a ton of things in my pocket. I eagerly await the day when I can get rid of my keys entirely as well.

Alright, so seeing how I have 500gb (potentially 800gb) of mobile data per month to play with, I thought about getting a 4G+ router to bolster my miserable 20mbit xDSL home internet. 5G doesn't cover my patch of land yet and good 5G modems / routers are still too expensive anyway.
Bought the reasonably priced TP-Link MR600 and this is what I'm getting ...
... by combining both connections via Windows. I keep getting errors trying to directly bridge the connections / network adapters, but the other method, setting the same metric number on both interfaces, seems to be working just fine.
No one's impressed, I'm sure, but it's still 4x what I'm used to. This is without external 4G antennas of any kind, so I could possibly be looking at speeds of up to 300mbit, seeing how this is a 4G+ area. But even if not, I'll take ~100mbits.
What would be the best way of combining internet connections on a home network level? A load balancing router?

WAN aggregation at the router level would be the easiest way to achieve that across your home network. Just making sure you know that things like torrents are an optimal case for that and it won't help you with things like video streaming.

I'm gonna return this TP-Link 4g router and get one that has a bridge mode and then I'm gonna look into load balancing routers. Half the reason for fooling around with all this is because I want to revamp my home network, set it up right.
I'm aware that only certain applications are capable of using both internet connections. Torrent clients and Steam can do it, which is really all I need, plus having the faster 4g connection available to my living room TV for 4k/60fps video streaming, since my DSL can only do 4k/30fps.

By reilo Go To PostCorrect me if I am wrong, but feels like Apple brought more to the field in the laptop/PC sphere last two years in terms of technology advancement than any of the other traditional chip makers have in a loooong timeYeah i'd say as far as SoC design they have probably done more innovation than anyone else. There are some companies doing some interesting things at a small scale for enterprise clients but Apple putting it into consumer hardware.
Apple is certainly doing more innovative things at scale in the chip space than others.
I do wish they'd stop putting those shit graphs in their pressers.
It is amazing that they're comparing their SoC graphics capability to the 30 series Nvidias. I'm assuming that's at a raw power level, and less functionality in terms of things like RT, tensor/etc.
Lastly, I found it really annoying that press were talking about this is an inbetween device. This is strictly on the professional end, it costs $2k at base!
