By Not Go To PostThis looks like shit!Big sexy camera system.
New smaller notch is ok, although it makes it look like a Hauwei. Finally getting ProMotion is awesome, and very glad about them increasing the battery size again, after the travesty that was the shrinkage in the 12.
It’s a nice phone but should be just a half step to next years punch-hole iPhone. I’m not entirely convinced about the new blue in the Pro compared with Pacific Blue.
By LuminaryGhost Go To PostI’m glad they made 128GB the base storage, about time. Honestly though this feels like a standard ‘S’ update. Not much new.
At least iOS15 is out Sept 20th.
As a new Apple user, are these iOS updates a big deal? On some kind of release cadence?
I might hop on this for the 120hz screen alone, since it’d only be $600 to upgrade. Everything else seemed pretty minor unless you are a big camera person.
Definitely getting the Watch tho.
You guys can anticipate iOS 15 update by a week if you sign up for the beta program now. The RC version has been released in the beta channel which is bit by bit the final version that will be released on the 20th. After updating then you can get off the program if you want to.

I’m DL’ing as we speak.

By Lunatic Go To PostUsed to do those RCs but the stability was always terrible so stopped a long time ago.Won’t be different when people update on the 20th. It’s the same version.
By Not Go To PostWait Jony Ive left in 2019? Lol that explains a lotYea it explains that they are actually focusing on features that customers want (better battery life) and not a constant zero-sum game of constantly slimming devices that noone can notice a difference between.
Another great point. They aren't revolutionizing anything anymore. Hell, Samsung's expensive clamshell phone is more intriguing then anything Apple's put out over the past half decade plus. Jony's departure could be uncorrelated to the overall design philosophy taking a nosedive
Wow the watch has no bevels and room for a microkeyboard? The game has changed

Apple have reached M$ levels of stagnation. Still been dominant and with their recent investment in vertical integration via chip manufacturing has given them at least 5-7 more years of market dominance.

feel like apple design has gotten better since ive left tbh. there's been some real awful shit under his watch.
I’m over wanting the latest and greatest features in new products. I used to like Android, and it’s great having the latest tech evolutions, but I appreciate Apple doing things properly even if it’s year later than half assed like most Android attempts, but more particular Google ever since Sundar Pichai took over.
By rerixo Go To Postfeel like apple design has gotten better since ive left tbh. there's been some real awful shit under his watch. The butterfly keyboard comes to mind. Noone is noticing that the new MBPs are a few mm thicker but everyone can agree the laptops have been better since they stopped chasing thinness over functionality/usability.
I never got the obsession over thin phones or laptops. Obviously you dont want them extremely chunky, but especially phones can feel like they are about to break at any small force if too thin.
Cant say i've ever been a fan of most apple products look, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter much if the product is good. Really like my ipad, but still on that android train for phones, and dont see myself getting off that any time soon.

I need to upgrade my charging station. I’ve got one of those 5 port USB-A, with 1 USB-C Anker Chargers, but basically everything I own now has a USB-C on one end.
Anybody have any good multi-port USB-C chargers?

Remember that time Jobs mentioned in a marketing meeting to never talk about bits and bytes and megahertz and all that shit?
And now it's all Apple talks about? Nits and nats and percentages etc. Fuckers have lost the plot completely.
Bored by all of these announcements.

They've always talked percentages and cores and obfuscated line graphs. They have yet to mention how much ram or gigahertz any of their devices utilize. We only ever find out from Geekbench scores after the fact.
iOS 15 seems pretty okay. I’m still playing around with the focus modes but I think it’ll be pretty useful for making my phone less distracting while I’m working at home.
iPadOS is very good, even if it’s just catching up to some stuff from last year on iOS. Widgets anywhere + multiple versions of the same app on your home screen. That, coupled with the much much better multitasking controls, and focus modes are great.
Glad they walked back some of the Safari changes though, but there’s still some rough shit in there.

Sucks Apple won’t support IPhone 6 Plus anymore. Can’t use some apps because they require iOS 13 or above and I can’t download that

It seems like it’s time for the Kindle Paperwhite to get the warm light features the Oasis has. That said, I have the 2018 Paperwhite but I still want the Kindle Oasis lol.

That was the driving factor behind upgrading. beyond that, it browsed the web and navigated the apps i use without issue. So I can understand the hesitancy.
I still miss the 3.5mm jack too.

So I can understand the hesitancy. The OG battery that came with the phone was indeed awful, but I took advantage of that Apple battery replacement program years ago for this iPhone and this battery has been much better. Feels like it can go 3-5 more years.

And I still only using wired earphones. Don’t want to switch to Bluetooth yet.
Speaking of battery, I am most excited for the battery life upgrade from my XS to the iPhone 13 Pro which seemingly is going to be a huge difference for me.
From some of the reviews/tests I am reading, seems you can get 7-8 hours of heavy use and keep it at 20% by end of night, which is more than double of what I can eek out of my iPhone XS nowadays.

The camera systems on the iPhone 13 Pro and the 13 Pro Max are identical this year, which means you don’t have to buy the bigger and more expensive phone to get the best photos. And I do mean best photos, because there isn’t another phone on the market that can match the iPhone 13 Pro. (Google’s upcoming Pixel 6 hasn’t been released as of writing this, of course, but it will have its work cut out for it.)The rich get richer

Going on 6+ years as of today with this current one.

Yea I imagine for you that'll be huge, but less so for me. iOS has always been a great performer on older devices in general, but even that has its limits.

Neva Lawst no Ls
So I might need to upgrade until the iPhone XV at least :wow
I think ram is becoming the deciding spec for phones. 4 years on, most iPhones still have processing power to spare, and for as much as cameras are getting better I think we’re plateau-ing in terms of what circumstances people tend to take photos in.
RAM, though, is the key reason most family and friends have mentioned their phone feeling slow. Just seems they’re dealing with apps and webpages being evicted from memory by the OS memory management

I remember when the Galaxy S2 came out people were critical of the camera bump. Now look where we are.
Wow apple laptops start at 1k. Yeesh.
Might look to ebay, I know apple's got a good rep for build quality but my eBay brought ipad pro basically died after a software update so I wanted something with a warranty.

All decent laptops start at 1k. Don't cheap out on it trust me. The use you get out of it is worth price of entry.

The use you get out of it is worth price of entry.I know good laptops are expensive but not 'starting at 1k' expensive, that's apple tax. I paid like $800 for the one I'm using now and it holds up really well for a 6 year old Windows device. I'm pretty sure the GPU or something is dying.
Just was surprised(shouldn't have been) that Apple's cheapest line started at 1000. Definitely priced out of the macbook pros.
