Apple is putting in more work to support games on Mac... watch out. Baldur's Gate 3, Control, and Assassin's Creed: Shadows is coming.

The Apple Intelligence stuff was pretty impressive. I mean, my life isn't complicated enough to use any of that but cool I guess.
Without a chrome extension it's a no go for me. IMO, a password manager should be everywhere a user needs for max security
It'll most likely happen, I don't see why they wouldn't. It'll most definitely start out as a first-class extension within Safari.
The insight thing for Apple TV is cool. Google Play had something similar years ago and I wish more places used it.

iOS 18 was nothing special, colored icons, hidden and locked apps? Welcome to Android 8. Insight is just what Prime Videos have had since it's conception. The AI stuff is just their version of MS Recall, although Apple is admittedly better at packaging stuff.
MacOS though, that looked neat.

apple has truly fallen.
the ui stuff and the ai stuff is so shockingly garbage steve jobs just died again.

Of course they would call me to inform me they'll be bringing fiber internet to my house not long after I spent 600€+ and a considerable amount of time and effort building a kickass outdoor 5G modem ... I'm sure I'll be celebrating 1gb internet in no time, but at the moment I'm kind of pissed lol.
By diehard Go To PostEh? Recall is just an NPU processing screenshots so you can search for things you previously viewed.Isn't that what Apples AI is also built on? Snapshots of your stuff. They had an example with "show me the podcast my wife linked to last week" or something like that, which would not be possible without the AI processing snapshots of your content?

Just arrived on my street, they’re giving me a year for free to get me in the door while my current deal expires
By JesalR Go To PostGetting fibre tomorrow! Just arrived on my street, they’re giving me a year for free to get me in the door while my current deal expiresOnly getting it installed for free as a perk for sticking with my current provider, but my internet/phone bill should basically get cut in half because I won't have to pay for the second sim, which I've been using in the outdoor modem, plus fiber is considerably cheaper than xdsl anyway.
I only wish they'd let me know before I invested in 5g internet, sigh. Time to sell the whole setup. Cavalo pls.
Every time I see those tinted iOS home screens it kill’s me. Cydia looking nonsense

One of the shittiest things about living in a flat is you have very little agency in getting stuff like fibre installed.
By JesalR Go To PostThere’s got to be someone else out there who needs your modem right? The antenna array is probably worth more than the modem, but sure. One post in the 5G telegram group I'm in will probably do it. It's just annoying.

By DiPro Go To Post800mbit? what is this 2005?This is basically what the technician that called me today said.
He laughed when I told him 'ffs I just spent half a grand for this outdoor 5g setup' and literally said 'throw it in the bin'.

They announced nothing like Recall.
By Pedja Go To PostThey aren't bringing the Passwords app to Android?Windows is the only other platform listed for now. They do offer some Apple services on Android though, so probably just a matter of time?

So what's the current status of RCS for iMessage? It's available now or in the fall? I use WhatsApp for like 90% of my texting, but every time I meet someone new or have to help out someone elderly they're using text messages. As one of like four people in the DMV on Android, RCS is all I'm interested in out of this event.

I know they said it wouldn't be E2E encrypted because it's not part of the spec
From Apple's website. Looks like it'll support all the relevant features which should be good enough.
I can't wait for regulators to claim it's creating an atmosphere of prejudice by keeping it green or something.
Sounds good to me. Finally when my buddy's mom sends me videos about something that's broken in her house I'll be able to see it. 🫡

By KimoSan Go To PostYou can't currently customize the location of app icons on an iPhone? That is seriously shocking. You can re-arrange the order. Thankfully the woke EU has pressured them into adding features I was doing on my Nexus 5.
By KimoSan Go To PostYou can't currently customize the location of app icons on an iPhone? That is seriously shocking. You can and I’ve done it a ton. I deleted all apps icons of apps I rarely use from my Home Screen, created folders to categorize my often used apps, and rearranged the rest.
Fibre installed, behind a CGNAT though. I wish IPv6 wasn't still so lacking, need to get a fixed v4 IP for my server
Congrats JesalR. Mine is still 1-2 months out.
Avvocato, what kind and speeds of internet are you currently enjoying?

By Kibner Go To Postdebian is very solid. i like it. it just doesn't use the latest and greatest versions of things, so you might not have some modern features available. but you usually get a very stable experience because of it.I'm about done with this Kali Linux/ as it seems to create random problems all the time. Ubuntu is better and now I've been trying Fedora. Been messing with an install of Fedora on an old Surface Pro 4 and it's been fun figuring out all of the intricacies. I really like Linux its just fucking fun as hell to tinker.
i'm running a fedora atomic desktop with sway (a tiling window manager). I have had a hardware incompatibility with one of my audio interfaces and i have to run a vm to watch League Pass for basketball (their player refuses to run on any *nix system because they can't guarantee a fully drm secure chain). i need to figure out how to get usb redirection working in either wine or a vm (running into some security-related issues) so that i can update the firmware and configure my water cooling setup, my dsp, and maybe a couple other things i'm forgetting.
other than that, i'm happy with it. have been able to play all my non-game-pass games without issue. riot going to a *nix-incompatible root anti-cheat is the only thing i'm a bit sad about missing.
