By Zabojnik Go To PostI keep waiting for the day an Apple product will impress me to the point I'll have no choice but to buy it. It's been a while since the 3rd gen ipod.I generally only go out of my way to recommend the Apple Silicon MacBooks to people looking for a non-gaming laptop. Those are on another level than anything else on the market.
Just about done with the backlog of ripping movies and tv shows to my Plex server so I started up ripping some music to it. Two main things:
1) Man, cd ripping has changed. I am using fre:ac and it supports something called AccurateRip and cdparanoia which compare the ripped file to both data on the disc and against an online database to ensure that your rip was bit perfect. It also supports some kind of offset setting for your specific drive which I don't really know what that does. Oh, and the gui lets me pick what level of compression to use for my FLAC files.
2) Plexamp remains an absolutely wonderful audio player. Just a clean design that is scalable to a whole bunch of different resolutions/sizes, and a bunch of thoughtful settings for dumb audiophiles like me while also having intelligent defaults. A shame that it is only useful if you have your music ripped to a Plex server or have a Tidal subscription.

can't stand macos but the arm macbooks are extremely good so i'm cautiously excited for the new ARM laptops to jump back.
I feel like one too many security issues at Microsoft over the last few years, I can't trust their solution to this.
I don't normally complain about UI updates, but this new YouTube desktop UI has put 'top comments' right beside the video with no way to hide them.
I've had at least three videos spoiled already

Been using a debian based Linux distro almost exclusively for the last few months. Really liking it so far.
debian is very solid. i like it. it just doesn't use the latest and greatest versions of things, so you might not have some modern features available. but you usually get a very stable experience because of it.
i'm running a fedora atomic desktop with sway (a tiling window manager). I have had a hardware incompatibility with one of my audio interfaces and i have to run a vm to watch League Pass for basketball (their player refuses to run on any *nix system because they can't guarantee a fully drm secure chain). i need to figure out how to get usb redirection working in either wine or a vm (running into some security-related issues) so that i can update the firmware and configure my water cooling setup, my dsp, and maybe a couple other things i'm forgetting.
other than that, i'm happy with it. have been able to play all my non-game-pass games without issue. riot going to a *nix-incompatible root anti-cheat is the only thing i'm a bit sad about missing.

It's jpg replacement with a higher image quality and lower filesize and it's been around over a decade.
It's like complaining about seeing audio file types that aren't mp3.

You want imgur to stop providing you with a new image standard that gives you the same quality and a smaller filesize? No wonder you watch movies on your flip phone.
Apparently, that new Recall feature in Windows stores everything in an unencrypted SQLite database in the user's appdata folders.

Headphone port on my phone keeps springing the jack back out. It's not a loose fit in there, it's actively being pushed.
Don't really want to pay to get it fixed since I'm due an upgrade in a few months. Anyone had this problem before?
edit: fixed it
How the fuck does so much lint get into such a small hole? Could make a t-shirt out of it.

so, the key to getting usb redirection working in libvirt in an atomic fedora spin was to use rpm-ostree to install libvirt and virt-manager
my general order of operations for installing an app on atomic fedora spins is:
1) flatpak from fedora
2) flatpak from flathub
3) toolbox
4) rpm-ostree
i hear good things about distrobox but i haven't tried it, yet. it would come after toolbox in my ooo

They have some apps like Apple Music on those platforms so they have no excuse
By reilo Go To Post100%i'm still annoyed they completely dropped Safari for Windows. made it so much more difficult than it should have been (10+ years ago) to make pages look right in that browser.

LastPass and 1Pass became too focused on making free features paid features
Not sure why I’m supposed to be impressed Apple Passwords will rival them

My screen broke so could mac book air. I have a firewall on my dell that i have no how clue to switch off so migration assistant isnt working. Is there any other way to copy my pc hardrive as is to my mac.
get an external drive and copy stuff from the dell and paste it to the macbook is the easiest way
a more difficult way is to setup a network share on your dell and then copy over files that way
or you could upload the things you want to transfer to onedrive, dropbox, or some other service and use that same service to pull it back down to the macbook

or if you dont care about the PC just take the drive out and put it in an external enclosure
