I am actually shocked this year from the draft and the moves the wolves made this year… they were competent!Flip has actually been a pretty good GM thus far. You can actually see some kind of vision there which has been absent for some time.
Last summer he saw that the Wolves were going all in on Love for a year, needed wings and picked up Brewer and Kevin Martin. Both are quality NBA players, starters, even, as much as a I despise Kevin Martin's defense. He also drafted Dieng, a total steal in the 20s. It's not his fault that Rick Adelman was completely checked out and that team underachieved.
And this summer was retooling the team on the fly around Rubio. It's not Kevin McHale falling in love with tournament runs, it's not David Kahn obsessing over things that don't matter like vertical leap. Kind of refreshing.
Simmons: And LeBron! In 11 years, LeBron played with only one elite player who made him better: Dwyane Wade in 2011 and most of 2012 before he slowly turned into Heavier, Moodier, Not-As-Good Dwyane Wade. Kevin Love will make LeBron better every single game. Remember, LeBron has never — not in his entire life — played with a great rebounder, a great outlet passer, or a great pick-and-roll forward.
Simmons is an idiot. Chris Bosh is all of those except a great outlet passer. Unbelievable.

Whoa! That's wholly unexpected.

People who voted for Wall and Westbrook being faster than Rose clearly didn't see Rose 2 days ago.

I don't know if it's some poor attempt at revisionist history to prop up Lebron or what, but to say that Bosh possessed none of those skills is mind-blowing. Bosh even developed a long-range game by the time the Heatles were done - not as good as Love's, but good enough to keep defenses honest. And Bosh is also an elite mid-range shooter where as Love is not. Not to mention Love sucks defensively.
The system Bosh was in sacrificed a lot of him. Varejao saw his rebounding go up when Lebron left, you can expect Bosh to double-digit rebounder in Miami this season. Love's rebounding will for sure go down.
Very surprised that lottery reform didn't pass.
I'm not sure what I think about it. Tanking is a problem, but it rarely seems to work unless there are several star players in the upcoming draft.
I mainly wanted to see it pass so that Philly's shamelessness would be punished.

Bosh was a Top 5-or-6 rebounder 3 out of his last 4 seasons with Toronto (RPG) and he played on a middle-of-the-pack pace team. Miami was a Bottom 10 pace team 3-out-of-4 seasons while Lebron was there. Meanwhile, Minnesota was a Top 5 pace team in 4 out of the last 5 seasons (1st in 2011).
It'd be mighty impressive if Love continues his Top 2-or-3 rebounding while playing next to Lebron. I expect Bosh's numbers to go up and Love's to go down.

when you got a player who hasn't played in forever, you just gotta give him the last shot. Who cares that Dame hit that game winner against Houston in the playoffs when it mattered?

Not sixth, seventh, I thought?
Since the league's weighted lottery system was adopted for the 1985 draft, only four teams with the worst or tied-for-worst record have earned the top overall pick.

You're right! Why won't GM's trust a 3rd year player with one playoff moment to his name, and at the first round at that! The audacity!
But for real though, Dame is clutch as fuck.

Excluding his rookie year, Bosh averaged a 22 DRB% and 15 TRB% in Toronto, which wouldn't have made the top 20 any year for at least the past decade. He's not a great rebounder.
Except Bosh was 14th in Total Rebound Pct and 12th in Defensive Rebound Pct and 6th in Total RPG in 2010. Maybe you should look at the stats you cherry pick first?
He's not a good Offensive Rebounder, which Kevin Love dominates every year, party because Love's been surrounded by some horrendous shooters in his career.

I like how the guy who takes one season is accusing the guy averaging seven seasons of cherry picking

Obviously Love is a better rebounder but Bosh was pretty good at rebounding. He also is a better PnR Forward than Love since he has better success shooting midrange jumpers by a significant amount and he's much better at defending the PnR as well.
Nitpicking aside, reilo's point was that Bill Simmons said Bron always played with a PF, who wasn't great at rebounding, PnR situations or outlet passing when only 1 of those things can be agreed upon across the board, 1 is up for debate and 1 is patently false.

I like how in Bill and Jalen's preview of the Sixers, they mention Steven Adams and show a picture of Nick Collison.
Also i'm confused, are they really done? Did it have something to do with the ESPN suspension?

Zach Lowe, awesome, as usual:

Under the current system, teams that reach certain profit levels forfeit some of their potential revenue-sharing proceeds. Revenue sharing saved teams last season; the Hornets, for instance, lost $33 million on basketball operations, but managed to tread water thanks to a massive $22 million revenue-sharing payout, per internal league documents obtained by Grantland.
Again: This interacts with revenue sharing. If small-market teams get more shared cash, ensuring a profit every season, perhaps they’ll be willing to tank Philly-style and chase a high pick. Does the league want a system like that? Every branch of the system touches every other branch; there are always unintended consequences.
Small-market teams that draft superstars have a home-court advantage, via the higher salaries and longer contracts they can offer, in keeping those guys onboard.
The league is right in lots of cases. We’re talking about only 15 or 20 guys who really move the needle, and league rules and randomness will make it so a bunch of them stick around regardless of market size. It’s hard to leave a 60-win team, regardless of where it is. The LeBron situation is about the luck of his birthplace more than any market force.
Right or wrong, the small-market concern is out there, and it drove the vote.

Yup, apparently Bill was suspended right after they taped the first ten. It's too bad because these were actually better than last year.
They mentioned at the end of the Pacers preview that the Top 20 is coming up and they'll be taping them. Is that not the case?
Hey everyone - we feel awful that we couldn't finish the previews. It would have been impossible, we taped those first ten on Sep. 23 and I wasn't allowed to work until Oct. 15. We love doing these previews and put a ton of time into each one. We couldn't and wouldn't mega-speedrush them just to finish the series, especially when we had to worry about planning the new TV show, too. In general, the timing just couldn't have been worse. But thanks for the support and big thanks to the Redditor who came up with the "Bad News Bill" idea. We are proud of the ten we did - we don't have a big team, it's just 4 of us and some freelancers. I thought the production quality was better this year than last year. We were getting better at doing them which is the real bummer here. Anyway, thanks for understanding and I promise to do an impromptu AMA soon. --SIMMONS
Waiters is super frustrating to watch. No way Blatt lets him start. Not even the bench can stop his swag.
He has played great most of the preseason though (didn't watch the last game).

Pretty thin at SG on the roster.. Mike Miller might fall apart on the court..
Bosh is a bad OFFENSIVE rebounder.
He's not a bad rebounder overall though.
It's funny because if you look at Love vs Bosh or even Dirk the idea that they are playing the stretch 4 role seems like it would limit their O rebounding chances. But Love smashes all of that thinking...
btw I would like to say I was SOOOOO wrong about Love on draft day... I still own up to this.. and Mayo as well.. I was way off..
Cav's bench is a problem... I don't think they are deep enough when the second team comes in.Waiters is super frustrating to watch. No way Blatt lets him start.

Sure Blatt could do the Spoelstra routine and make sure one of the "big three" are in at all times, but who else is going to be on the court with them? Marion? Miller?

Blake Griffin has been accused of bitch-slapping a 39-year-old man inside a nightclub in Vegas this weekend … TMZ Sports has learned.
Here's what we know … a man named Daniel says he was partying at Tao nightclub in the Venetian in the early hours of October 19th when he tried to take a cell phone pic of the crowd.
According to a statement Daniel gave to Tao security, the man says Blake (who was partying at the club with his L.A. Clippers teammates) was bothered by the flash of the camera – and "grabbed my phone with one hand."
Daniel says he didn't let go of the phone because his ID and credit card were attached to it – so Blake grabbed his neck and began to squeeze while demanding Daniel give up his phone "or else."
According to the statement, the two eventually separated after Blake took the phone – and when Daniel tried to ask for it back, Blake struck again … grabbing his neck and squeezing for a second time.
Daniel says when security finally got to the scene – Blake told them, "Get him the f**k out of this club."
Daniel says Blake then "slapped me in the right side of my face."
After he left the club, Daniel filed a battery report with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. He says cops came to his hotel the next day and spoke with him for about an hour.
So far, attempts to reach Blake for comment have been unsuccessful.
I am sure the guy is sugar coating the story and was most likely popping pics of Blake and the other players but.. really? Is Blake's "tough man" complex getting that bad?
I wonder if it was around the back of his neck like he did against Trevor Booker.
It was such a sweet and tender moment.
