They're drawing for the top 6 picks next lottery, still are gonna have a pretty decent chance.
Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 27 points on 23 field goal attempts, looking crisp after having a tough outing against the Warriors. Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 16 points.
There weren't many positive take aways besides Kobe Bryant, which has been a pretty consistent theme through four preseason games.
Wat?

Wat?
He was effective and aggressive. He just missed a bunch of close shots.
He was 5-10. Then missed 4 layups in a row. Then made 5 his next 9. So except for a 4 minute period where he missed those 4 layups he played around 50% the whole game.
That's the difference between watching the game and reading a stat line.
Edit: Byron Scott said he told the team he only needs 8 players who are willing to give effort. Losing patience and your locker room in 5 pre season games. Shit must be a record
Jalen Rose and Bill Simmons might want to revise their prediction on the Jazz being 29th because there's no fucking way they're gonna be worse than the Lakers this season.
Scott seems to have been as negative as possible about Randle. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad sign for Julius.
Bill and Jalen preview the Lakers.
The Lakers have a bunch of dudes who literally weren't good enough to be Knicks. Knicks…
Jeremy Tyler was too good for the Knicks.
Is Kobe going to last forever? What? dude has only shown the ability to hit jumpers so far.
Seriously he looked like he'll average 25 ppg easy this year

huh
free throw rate has been quite high during the preseason thus far
i think about 80% of his points are coming from mid-range.Is Kobe going to last forever? What? dude has only shown the ability to hit jumpers so far.

I kinda pulled that from my ass but i think its pretty close.
That number sounds right considering that's Scott's entire offensive plan:i think about 80% of his points are coming from mid-range.Is Kobe going to last forever? What? dude has only shown the ability to hit jumpers so far.

(Not a single corner three even attempted. Not one)

I think people are exaggerating a little on B Scott's no 3's thing. This team has made one 3 in the last 4 games. Without lin, Nash, Young, and Xavier they only have one guy that can drive and kick and that's Kobe. As they get their More dynamic players back (the same guys that can shoot it at a decent clip) that number will go up.
Kobe shot 7-13 from the FT line. That's happened maybe once his whole career? If he shoots it at 80% and knocks down a couple of 3'sna game from others ability to break down the D he could average 25 on 42-43% shooting. Obviously the % isn't good but if last night is any indication, he's not gonna be a good finisher around the rim this year

It's not exaggerated when his philosophy is to not even attempt threes. Yes, they've only made a small number of threes and some of their best perimeter shooters are missing, but you still have to actively attempt them to keep defenses honest.
The Lakers will be so fucking easy to defend against and run in transition against, it'll be hilarious.

Sticking guys in the corner makes it harder to defend transition then sticking guys at the top of the key. Lakers running against transition has to do with them being old, unathletic, and unable to collapse the defense when they have the ball.
Lakers will be easy to defend because they have shit players. D'Antoni team chucked away and they still sucked. I think Scott is definitely more old school than other coaches, but his thought process is he wants to get to the rim and then kick out. Not just come down and launch. We don't exactly have Steph curry or Damien Lillard who are effective doing that.
Right now our 3 best offensive players are Kobe/Hill/Boozer and all 3 are mid range shooters and only Kobe has 3 point range. Nash is probably done, but Young, Lin, Xavier, Ryan, Clarkson will all contribute from the 3 point line once they get back.
Well… http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/70840/did-nbarank-overrate-kobe
awful article
Because the team believed it couldn't afford to “disrespect” Kobe. They knew he could make life difficult for them by appealing to his fans and supporters around the league. They knew he could bully them into “respect.”
You know, we shouldn't be forced to “respect” Kobe any more than he earns our respect. We can respect his career, sure, if we want to reminisce about the good ol' days.
But respect is earned, and the current version of Kobe is not much of an NBA player.
And when it comes to an evaluation system like #NBArank, it should be just that simple.
Seriously? He finished with an ORTG of 112 on 57% TS the season before he was injured and he doesn't even look all that different right now. He's basically moving the exact same he did then. He looks like a rusty Kobe in preseason and yet he's not even an NBA player now?
ESPN's rankings are idiotic and everyone knows that. I think it's fine they put him at 40, he's coming off a 6 game season. The problem is their axe to grind is clear as day with someone like him.
Kobe represents the old school thinking, and his fans represent the old school thinking. Kobe's the most prominent symbol of the anti-advanced stats community as there is still playing in this league. People pretending like the ESPN True Hoop community of metrics based bloggers are objective are kidding themselves.
Phil is the anti-advanced stats basketball mind and Kobe's the player. The people who give the most credence to the analytics movement are people who have been convinced that those two are overrated - the True Hoop community knows it's audience.

I still can't believe Kerr is starting Barnes over Iggy and Green.
Phil Jackson used to start Travis Knight over Robert Horry. Rick Carlisle benches Dirk after only like 6 minutes in the 1st Q.
It's not always about starting your best 5. It is about making combinations throughout the game that maximizes your points for and minimizes against.
Maybe that means bringing iggy off the bench 6 min into the game so that he's out there without Curry in the 2nd Q and less tired. Maybe Barnes needs more run with the 1st unit to be effective.
We tend to overrate things like who starts.
[So, the Spurs will win the Southeast and the Thunder will win the Northwest. The Pacific goes to Golden State. Golden State really doesn't have much competition with Phoenix, both Los Angeles teams and Sacramento. That division will be a better race for second place than anything. The Lakers, Clippers or Suns could wind up second.
So, from top to bottom, the seeds will be San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Golden State, Portland, Houston, Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix and Los Angeles Lakers.
Me... ow?
How you gonna call someone that shoots under 40% "Jimmy Buckets"?
Because it's relative, everyone else for Chicago shoots less than that?
I still can't believe Kerr is starting Barnes over Iggy and Green.
Preseason, and they trying to get his confidence back by playing with the starters.
Show that muscle when scoring on a rookie SG when down 30. That's the Boozer we all know and love.
That was a douchebag move. But that has me thinking. Why don't the Lakers do that often. Get Kobe on the elbow and have Boozer, Davis, Hill, take turns taking the weakest defender on the floor underneath the basket and sealing their man. If it doesn't work, Kobe goes to work. If it does, you're just shooting layups and you can't double Kobe because he'll find the open guy.
Hill/Davis/Boozer aren't super skilled, but they're strong and (I'm hoping) know how to seal their defender properly.

Because thanks to their horrendous floor spacing the paint is packed and that pass isn't going to be there regularly / weakside help is going to block the shot anyway.
Scott says teams live and die by 3s. "I don't believe it wins championships. Gets you to the playoffs."
Scott translated: "I was in an alcohol induced coma over the last four years due to having to coach in Cleveland."

Klay, Curry, Green and Iggy should be soaking up all the wing minutes anyway. Maybe they're just trying to build up his value.
Unfortunately it looks like tankapalooza round 2 this year for me. Excited to watch Young and Smart play. Also hope to showcase Sully and trade him if anybody bites. That being said all the power rankings definitely have the Jazz too low. If they stay healthy they'll be middle of the road. Magic and Celts are about on par. I don't know what to expect from milwaukee, I think they're overhyped, but who knows. The sixers have arguably the worst roster ever though, so they're guaranteed last. Lakers could go either way. i don't see them being as bad as last year, but who knows.
From a reddit thread about meeting NBA players:
Cuttino Mobley once drew a dick on a card I asked him to sign. In the picture on the basketball card he was dunking with his legs spread out, and he drew the dick where his dick would be in the picture. I thought maybe his autograph just looked like a dick, because he drew it really fast, until I got his autograph again and it was completely different.
