By diehard Go To PostJazz fans say the same about Kanter though too. Just depends on the situation i guess. It does. He's been a great team presence for us this year (although if he wasn't content to come off the bench while he's getting paiiiiiid then there's something deeply wrong with him).
Kanter wanted to be traded because he was getting less minutes because of Gobert.. but now he is averaging even less minutes. Money cures all i guess?

By Fenderputty Go To PostI'm not condoning what he did. I'm agreeing with Lebetard that the media reaction to this was insane. Right now all we know is that it wasn't his intention to make it public. If it was an accident, your portrayal of the scenario is just that, your hyperbolic portrayal. If it comes out that D'lo intentionally uploaded this to make it public, then I would agree he deserves the blasting he got. There's no logical reason for him to do this purposefully though. If it wasn't intentional, let the kid learn from this mistake. The only person in the entire world who should be as upset as everyone got yesterday is Nick Young. SAS's rants was ridiculous and riddled with misogyny as an example.
Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not in the recording or releasing. As soon as he got what he did recorded, he had to delete it. Anything else makes him a cunt of a team mate. People will remember. This isn't a public apology thing that will square it. It will take years for him to earn the trust of anyone again.
If he wanted to do it to help iggy... then you send it to her and her alone.
By 33MillionDollarMen Go To PostHonestly I see D'lo's shit as the result of crap ass leadership and inability to mentor the youngins.
MAN UP
Nah, that's bullshit. You don't need a squad of 40 year old handlers to tell you not to release that shit cause it's going to create a giant fucking mess. Utter nonsense.
Even middle schoolers know better. I still can't wrap my mind around it. Recording, then the leading question which spells out intent "what about Amber Rose?", the gotcha moment at the end
Think about it. At all levels of sports in all team sports across the globe, who does shit like that?
He's a once in a generation fuckboy

You need the Coach and elements within the team to create an environment that's not toxic and dumb especially with such young ass dudes.
/shrug
Look at the Rockets, no central discipline or respect there either, just a team of fuckboy nonsense.

How many of those dudes were raised right? How many coaches take the role of mentor because it's pretty necessary when your dudes are barely out of highschool-age? Some of which never had people who actually gave a fuck just wanted to right coat-tails? A good coach is certainly going to do more for his youngins than that "man up" shit Byron touted.
Russell is just lucky that he pulled this shit w/ Nick Young and not someone who matter and/or was about that life. This could have been a lot uglier. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt in cases where they fuck up...but man this whole situation is some dumb ass shit. Like how is this a prank? And if it was, you should have deleted that shit ASAP. I get not always thinking of the consiquences but what the fuck are the plusses? No one would think "lol I actually videotaped this conversation of you telling all your dirty deeds lol" is funny...most people might just fight you on sight.
but still hopefully he actually learns from this shit and starts to "grow up". But man I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop because doing this in the first place still sounds so dumb to me.

Nah. It says more about him than the "institution". All of those guys have been playing for / with a team for a decade+. The fallout is fucking obvious.

A coach's job isn't too explain to a kid how not to destroy trust with every other person he's gonna meet in his professional career. Recording conversations because its 'funny'? He'd have been better off saying he was trying to blackmail Nick or looking to steal his girl. At least that'd make some kind of sense.
You can't even compare the Rockets to this. Lakers are trying to build around a guy who's not even proven or respected to begin with - now he's literally a worse teammate than guys who've gone to jail lol.

Inb4 Frankman, but he's lucky this a new, softer, friendlier NBA. If this were hockey, football, or baseball (maybe even mls lol) he'd have a mysterious injury in practice at best - zero blocking like RG3 in preseason at worst.

That seediness of "what about Amber Rose?" just eliminates all chance of it being anything other than intentional grime. He knew what he was doing.
And for everyone thinking its not serious, LA making a press conference happen means that they absolutely acknowledge how serious this is in regards to upcoming free agency - which becomes doubly important if they end up losing their draft pick.
Byron should be play active role in D'umbsass development and maturing him, but the problem is not solely the Lakers organization and front office. Yes they could have done better but this was taken in DECEMBER and he held it up until now. The front office knows his immaturity and chooses to slowly give him more responsibility. Could be better but it is not like they know he was going to do something this stupid.
Nick Young is in the wrong but this is not about him. It is about a level of respect and trust within your peers. If Russell think that Nick Young is doing something wrong with his infidelity, he should have 1. speak up about it since those personal times to talk to each other are private forums where you can get to know each other better and talk about things to get off your mind. Or if it REALLY bothered him, don't act like a fuckboy and do it in private.
Okafor has anger issues but you don't see him doing some immature stuff like this. You play with a team all your basketball career you know what a team is like you know that the point guard position runs the offense and requires the most trust from their team mates. Years of playing basketball and you still don't know that?
You see players like KAT, Porzingis, Johnson, Turner, Booker, Oubre, etc. pulling shit like this off? Some of these guys are grateful to even make it to the league and Russell out here thinking that its okay to fuck with people cuz he makes some money now. You have a job you love but it is still a job you need some professionalism.
This is really big on Russell and his lack of maturity as well as some flags as to whether or not he's actually sorry for what he did. The team culture should be keeping Russell in line on the court and during practices, but that team culture isn't enough to stop him from pulling dumb shit in private.
There are a lot of parties in the wrong in this situation, but Russell himself his fuck up was all him.

Would like a little less TMZ stuff in the NBA next year. Coaches fighting with players over girls. Phonecam exposes. Whatever word best fits the Kings situation.
I kind of wonder if the Warriors have made the season feel so redundant that there's less attention towards the playoff races this year and more space for meaningless shit to creep up.

Tell me this brehs, and I'm only going to go off topic this one time. How does this statement deserve a lengthy ban? I only said:

Whining about the pretense of being offended is a good way to get whacked. See?
Ever since NBA-GAF went down, they've been on my neck for tiny little bullshit.

Of course intent matters. Intent always matters. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.
In the context of pranking and then videoing each other doing stupid shit all year long, calling him a cunt is even more rediculous. Stupid and immature, sure. Continue to channel your inner SAS though. Maybe you can think of an even better gendered insult.

Can anyone enlighten me about what Rachel Nichols was talking about on The Jump comparing Russell with what Kobe said years back? That he supposedly slipped and threw a teammate under the bus years back, possibly about some sort of infidelity?
The point was about how winning seems to erase bad deeds but i don't ever remember that incident...Which i guess may prove her point.
EDIT: oops, never mind, guess it was with Shaq back in the day. Surprised I don't remember it.

It's gendered everywhere, though it's admittedly not as large of a pejorative.

Intent only matters if he did it purposefully to ruin his marriage. if he did it as a prank it just makes him a cunt. A dumb cunt, but a cunt. If he did it with the intent to ruin his marriage and humiliate Young, he's ruined any career he ever thought of having in the NBA.
It's a nice deflection to try and create a nuance in a situation that has none. There are pranks, there are pranks that go too far (shitting in someone's shoe........). This wasn't either of those. Then there are things that we call pranks, but aren't, but we hide behind the word and debase our selves pledging that we're really really stupid, sub grade 1 level intelligence, that we thought this would be ok and hope that the public humiliation we get in return for that admission will absolve some of what we did.
I mean, you can try and deflect further by whining about "gendered" insults. I really couldn't care less about the objections to the word. And frankly, if you find it offensive, that's the intent. Because what Russell did was horrendously offensive and every Laker fan should be offended.
