There have been four mass shootings in the last five days in America.

I mean, these are just things that happen in America, but it's just super sad... I don't think the media has cared about any of these shootings much at all either.

Fuck the 2nd amendment.
Right, my definition of "mass shooting" is a lot stricter than the actual definition so going by the actual definition, there have been 13 recently.
But these four were such a bloodbath.
By Nelo Ice Go To Posthttps://massshootingtracker.org/dataNah fuck your 2nd amendment, i'll keep mine though.

At the very least, people that have alcohol related recent crimes or histories of domestic violence should have to give up their guns.
It's insane that wife beaters (and ones that drink heavily) can get a gun, I can't imagine how terrifying it must be to know that your husband could be seconds away from killing you and your children any given night.

By GQman2121 Go To PostThat doesn't really seem like that many if I'm being honest.
LOL How many more shootings per week can you bare?
This is the first time I'm hearing about two of these. Guess that obligatory week or two where America was pretending to care about gun violence is over?
By Jay Whatever Go To PostLOL How many more shootings per week can you bare?My city is averaging a homicide every 48 hours so I can't say. But as a nation, there's very little that can shock me at this point.
By Pizza Go To PostThis is the first time I'm hearing about two of these. Guess that obligatory week or two where America was pretending to care about gun violence is over? We've never cared about gun violence. It's discussed, but it's pushed aside as soon as something more profitable becomes available for coverage. Currently that's Donald Trump. So instead of a shooter taken out by a hero cop in KS being the lead story for the nightly news, it's Trump playing the "Trump card after a rough debate" by gaining the support of Chris Christie.
By DY_nasty Go To PostI mean, after Sandy hook it's been pretty much over.
we don't care
Yeah if Sandy Hook made nutters think "we need more guns everywhere, we need teachers with guns", lol.
even worse is how little attention any of these got, it's almost as if they're just an everyday annoyance
By domino Go To Postwhats a mass shooting tho? More than 2 ppl?
All of this shootings seem to fit most reasonable definitions. >4 dead in all shootings except for one with four dead and 14 injured.
By Xpike Go To Posteven worse is how little attention any of these got, it's almost as if they're just an everyday annoyance
I'm no longer surprised when I think "Yeah, sounds about right" when I read stats like this. It's passively accepted in America at this point.
Those family tragedies are sadly pretty common around the world, both with and without guns involved.
Incredible sad how alot of those people narrow their view on no alternatives to continue.
These issues are alot harder to tackle and there is hardly any proper solution I can think of.
Unless you install certain counsels (yes I realize there are already alot of them), and it wouldn't guarantee shit.
That's why I think pretty highly of a certain uncle of mine.
He is known for his rather short temper and being agressive, however once his company was bankrupt and his wife left him with the kids, he gave his guns to the police in order to get them away from him.
In the end there are so many variables to tackle gun related shootings, but family tragedies are far harder to stop in my opinion.
How much do you still hear of the Ukraine for example ?
The conflict still is nowhere near settled and the country is still split and there are still people dying for no reason.
There are so many other examples of certain news, events or whatever that should have a constant focus and are barely even mentioned anymore.
People just get used to the situation.

I'm not sure i'd call them common. We may get one or two a year in AU. At worst.

There's definitely been a media blackout on this Ukraine situation, at least in the UK.
By Kikarian Go To PostWas thinking this the other day.I wouldn't call it a blackout at all. Its just not profitable to report on lingering, complicated issues.

By diehard Go To PostNah fuck your 2nd amendment, i'll keep mine though."Your" 2nd Amendment is a fever dream of the Scalia wing of the court. It's a recent invention that ignores all precedent, common sense and grammatical convention in favor of the NRA's preferred rule.
I look forward to "your" 2nd Amendment being cut down to size over the next couple of decades.

By diehard Go To Postgood luck with thatWon't need it as long as the American people have the good sense to reject Trump in November.
Edit: I like how your original reply was "good luck with that" with no specific critique of my original points.
To be specific: I look forward to basic regulations on guns being upheld instead of rejected. I look forward to the 2nd Amendment being interpreted in line with the jurisprudence of the first 230 years of the country and not the last 5. Scalia's absurd "originalism" has poisoned the court.
I have 0 worries that more liberal judges will have any effect on me personally when it comes to the 2nd amendment.
What specifically do you think would have changed had Scalia not been there? Chicago and DC's super effective handgun bans would still be in effect..?
Expanded background checks never passed the Senate.

It'll matter over time as state cases work their way up the court and assuming the country starts to take gun violence more seriously, which is far from a sure thing I'll admit.
Notice I said "decades" in my original post. I'm not expecting a sea change right away.

Strict mental evaluations prior to purchasing weapon.
That's really all I ask for.
