The Dub last night confirmed he’s been cast in HBO’s award-winning True Detective and added: “I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited.”

It's already confirmed it's going to be a different director.
Farrel isn't a bad casting but regardless I am not going into next season with high hopes. I feel like the first season caught lightning in a bottle and is really going to be hard to duplicate.
Colin as the conflicted hero with questionable morals and Kitsch as just the competely off the handle, ends justify the means dude could be good.
We won't get highs as good as the shit Matt brought to the table last year, but we shouldn't get filler based around Woodys issues controlling his dick either

I think the pulp style nature of it gives it a good chance to be great again.. I am worried about the multiple directors this time tho.. Justin Lin is doing the first two episodes..
