I read the entire letter and I don't really find it to be racist. Insensitive, yes, but he's basically saying he's willing to cater towards racist southern whites because they have more money than black people, though he explicitly states the racist whites are wrong. But money talks. Sure, he should say "to hell with the racists, I don't need their money," but I can understand how money drives his decisions here. It would be racist if he tried to cater to whites simply because he wanted their money over the money of black people (with it being equal). Not the case. Again, insensitive but I don't find him racist.
Danny Ferry, on the other hand, said something that was fucking vile.He is a good guy overall. But he is not perfect. He's got some African in him. And I don't say that in a bad way, but he's like a guy who would have a nice store out front but sell your counterfeit stuff out of the back.
Now that's racist. And he should be fired and banned from the NBA. Fuck Danny Ferry and what he said. And of all fucking players, he says it about Luol Deng?
I think Levenson wants out. Hasn't he wanted that for a while but the whole Atlanta ownership situation has been a clusterfuck?
edit: FWIW, until the Braves moved into the new stadium (I believe last year) they had the same problem putting fans in the seats, even as they won like 11 division titles in a row, went to a few World Series, one a title, etc. People there don't want to go. I have a cousin that just finished living out there for a few years and she said she was taken aback most by how racist numerous people were out there (mostly white). that's just anecdotal, though.
He basically said he wanted less black at games and because there were blacks there were less father and sons and blacks don't cheer as loud…
It's not KKK material but it's pretty shitty
He didn't say he wanted less black people at games because they're black. He said he wanted more white people at games because they have more money. Which, unfortunately, is true (and probably moreso in his area). He's trying to target the most money he can.
There's a world of difference between "I don't want black people at my games because they're black," versus "I want more white people at my games because we know they spend more money when they're at the games."
It's insensitive and other things. You shouldn't cater to the racist to make more money. But it's not racist.

I never said he said he didn't want black people at his games because they are black... he said he wanted less black people at his games to attract more white people..

But not because they're white but because they spend more money.
And because they supposedly cheer louder and spend more time with their kids...
All sterotypes...
and? stereotypes aren't necessarily racist. Racism is about superiority. I said he was insensitive. But his motives were not racist, they were financial. And he blamed racist southern whites for these problems.

Pretty sure the modern view of racism extends to stereotypical views...
Saying that blacks don't spend time with their seeds or buy boxseats paints them as an inferior customer... that's basically what stereotypes do... just like racial profiling by police
It paints minorities as the inferior citizen ... all stereotypes might not be racist outright but saying they were just stereotypes is downplaying the role they play in racism

Black people, in general, have less disposable income than white people. It's a fact. Now, if you believe that to be true because black people are inferior for certain reasons (ie intelligence), then that's a racist viewpoint. If you believe it's true because of institutional factors (such as access to worse education, consequences of segregation, etc) then it's not.
Being an "inferior customer" isn't the same as being inferior.
My problem isn't so much with Levinson's assessment but his solution. He shouldn't be targeting racists just because they have more money.

If his only fact was whites had more disposable income we wouldnt need have this conversation because he would have facts to back it up
Dude did an eyeball assessment and came up things like blacks don't cheer as loud and numbers like 70 and 90 percent
He could have wrote the exact same email and left the race of the customer out of it... and his eyeball assessments

His portrayal of Gearen seems a bit ridiculous. Sounds more like he was scared in a post-sterling world and acted accordingly, not that he was trying to push Levinson out.

No, it's 100% accurate. The Atlanta Spirit group all fucking hate each other, and the group that Gearen is from (the smaller Atlanta investors) cannot stand the big-time group (the Washington DC-based owners of which Levenson is the primary). Gearen was marginalized by Levenson.
