They're going to substantially rework a lot of things, so yeah, if people are wanting to take a break pre Taken King, it'd probably be a good time. Just looking at the Weekly Update alone shows how they're redoing everything as Quests (even vanilla content), and speeding up middleman stuff (like being able to turn in bounties directly from the inventory screen). Taken King isn't even that far off.
A couple of years from now people will probably be like "remember how vanilla Destiny did that?"

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postnah you gonna have to tell us what's really goodOkay, I'll go in
whats wrong with it?
first off - in vanilla and scrota. we all know that story with raid gear being the most reliable way of leveling gear OR getting gear. heavy emphasis on that. and for a lot of people, that shit got old. (some love raiding, i'm like naw)
the shift in HoW is pretty much just as strong but in the other direction. I happen to be one of the few that's loved PvP since day 1. But with the meta as it is now, you kinda need certain weapons to be able swing with the player base these days. This is especially apparent in ToO.
I'll write up some more in a bit after I hit some homework
Should be noted they're aware of the PvP issues like Thorn and so on, they're working on upgrading their internal tools to make updating stuff like guns much faster, and with lessons learned in mind to avoid future issues.
Thorn is COMPLETELY BROKEN right now. It's the only damn gun I see in Trials.
Thorn is COMPLETELY BROKEN right now. It's the only damn gun I see in Trials.
My biggest gripe with Destiny was that I started off as a Warlock and was instantly fucked in PvP. My only way out would have been to switch to another class and/or create a new user but I didn't have the patience to put in another 30 hours of work just to be competitive.
Warlock's Super is trash in PvP, and that's a huge hinderance to a better upgrade path.

Just no way to mitigate it either outside of overwhelming advantage. There's no real counterplay for it and it's mere presence can make even the most aggressive players fall back.
Thorn is COMPLETELY BROKEN right now. It's the only damn gun I see in Trials.
I'm really on the fence with weapon rolling right now too. Then there's the constant conflict between weapons and the encouraged movement within the game. To be as mobile as you are in Destiny, there are almost no weapons that allow you to take advantage of it. Some classes work better for it than others, but that should never be the case in a game like this.

But that CAN be fixed (Sunslinger is actually legit as fuck in Iron Banner/ToO/Raids/PoE because of revive, grenade spam, etc)
The thing is though, there have been a lot of smaller fixes since CE that suggest that, if HoW was an example of ongoing progress, TTK will be a massive improvement. The game has come a long, long ways since Vanilla. Even regarding things like economy.
By Dipro Go To Posthuh? it's decent.nova bomb is nice and all if you have amazing map awareness but its not a complete game changer like bubble, cross map golden gun, revive, etc. the slow windup makes it worse than titan panic button and its much, much less versatile than blade dancer ult (which just has dope ass perks in every column)
nova bomb is fine.
By Dipro Go To Posthuh? it's decent. It's god awful because it can get stuck on a random tree leaf or cardboard box while you are suspended mid-air unable to defend yourself and don't have much time to execute the attack.
nova bomb is fine.
In short, it sucks for PVP because most PVP maps aren't open and very corridor designed.
the map design in pvp was bad. i love bungie, but this might be their worst map catalog for multiplayer ever
they're just not designed with the best attributes of this game in mind lol. like... i don't even know what they're thinking some times. thieves den may as well be a call of duty map. cauldron is cheeks. BUT (and I know i just named new map additions lol) they have put out better stuff over time.
i also like that now that more perks are coming out, armor/weapon combinations are becoming a thing. i was doing a stream with unstable a while back and was happy to broadcast to the world how Radiant Dance Machines + Midas Multi-Tool + blade dancer w/ quickdraw, speed speccd is just filthy at mid-range. Outmatches just about anything short of an unflinching + final round sniper.

not sure how i feel about NLB being legitimate lol.... i'll post more in a bit
I'm translating this as Monte Carlo = Fist of God after the patch. Last Word should take a ninja to use effectively (especially since they're nerfing clip size lol). Plan C is the new old new meta.
and lol its too late to stop grenades and horsehoes now, bungie. that demon has already been freed

By Moris Go To PostI just need someone to tell me what the best weapons, I feel like it was ARs all day errrday then they got nerfed and that didnt change anything really. As is, ARs largely ain't shit. The time to kill (TTK) is joke status and you'll get chewed up by any number of things before then.
But I've been out of the game so long I have no idea.
If we're NOT talking about exotics, then I'd say that pulse rifles and handcannons, imo, run shit. A solid legendary PR with high impact and high stability will drop shit in 2-3 hits depending on perks and can do so from a really, really hefty range. Handcannons just chunk people fast as fuck and are hella versatile in general.. No getting around it.
if we ARE talking about exotics, then you have to go down the list of shit that will get #rekt pronto
Thorn
Last Word
Hawkmoon
Red Death
Bad Juju (yes, its a beast now)
....
everything else
those primaries run shit. Thorn and The Last Word in particular will make you change the entire way you play the game if you feel that the guy carrying it knows what he's doing. The Last Word's TTK in particular will make you feel like you're fighting Dio.
Secondary weapons are an entirely different breed. Fusion Rifles were, when you last played I think, feared as some kind of profound 1hk machine no matter what. They haven't changed THAT MUCH, but everything else has. Shotguns for example, yeah, the range got nerfed. Yeah, it got a massive PvE boost (it actually destroys shit in PvE, something like a 100% damage increase over what it was at release). The issue with shotguns now is that certain weapons could be re-rolled indefinitely until you get a 'perfect' weapon that would allow you to fire much more accurately and much, much more farther than a typical shotgun.
Blinking + Shotguns (particularly the Felwinter's Lie) is pretty much impossible to defend against in PvP. An instant of near-impossible to follow movement followed by a 1hk from a surprisingly long range as a shotgun. Kinda fucked shit up.
Just played a few matches with an AR. I don't recommend anyone do this.
Or buy those shitty Fallen Legendaries.

i got wrecked by a Suros not long ago, i suspect it was a guy that was bored of dominating with good weapons.
Nerfing the ballerhorn and icebreaker is so stupid. I'm really frustrated that they continue to ruin everything while fixing some things as well. I haven't played destiny more than 4 hours a week after I've played for 1500 hours before. I got bored of HOW faster than I did with TDB.

I wish they would've changed its Wolfpack Round tracking instead of the damage though. *shrug*
The Icebreaker is just fucking weird though. If they fixed encounters, like they say, then the reliance on the IB wouldn't be half of what it is. Outside of the early Vault of Glass raid days, I can't think of a single time where that recharge has been relied upon as a necessity. Cheesing strikes? Sure. But those strikes that got cheesed probably sucked ass hard and were needlessly segmented or had some bullet sponge + mob crap that people didn't feel like dealing with.
I got some harddrive space so I may actually upload some games of my uphill battle to level this strugglelock

Fatebringer, Icebreaker/BlackHammer, GHorn/Any rocket of your choosing. That's what I rocked for about 70% of my pve experience. And they're basically nerfing most of it.

We both played a lot of ME3 MP, and those nerfs were fucking absurd because Bioware was almost always devoted to bringing shit down to a level below being legitimately 'powerful'. I don't think this is quite in the same neighborhood because Bungie actually has made a concentrated effort in bringing shit up to a certain standard. The big issue that Destiny will always have to deal with is the PvE // PvP balance (I think they've done about as decent in that regard as anything tbh).
Black Hammer nerf is lol - mainly because they may as well have just kept the fucking perk as is and just turned the weapon yellow, called it an exotic, and just been done with it all. It had always been one of the most powerful raid weapons in the game by far.
Fatebringer... just a casualty of handcannons in general being able to do absolutely everything after the first weapon changes shortly after release.
BUT, unlike ME3 MP, some shit always comes in to fill the void after Destiny's fixes. Bad Juju in particular is a perfect example. Went from being a chore to get and a holding place in the inventory to being, lowkey, one of the best exotic primaries in PvE and a damned good weapon in PvE.
I hope the AR return is manageable tbh.
It should also be noted that TTK will bring more exotics than the base game. These weapon changes will happen at the same time that a truckload of other gear and weaps will be made available.
I'll do up a long post later today on how this patch affects how I play Destiny, but I'll just say a lot of the reaction I've seen (nothing wrong with any of it) almost feels like a lot of people are experiencing their first ever game patch :p

ARs
This is the type of weapon I like to use, followed closely by Pulse rifles. I consider this tidbit more important than anything:
This means a lot for the future of everything, as I'm assuming they'll be able to have guns with really long range but severe damage falloff, which gives all weapons pinging capability but doesn't also force them to be super useful at that range. This is a good move even outside of ARs.
Basically, the class is more deadly at the range it should be. As a Defender Titan and a lover of objectives, I use ARs intentionally to be close range and "overwhelm" other players, and also for suppressive fire down sightlines. The PvE buff is nice - this will probably get more people to do what I did and Ascend Atheon's Epilogue for Void burns. The stability debuff doesn't matter much since you should be going body shots with an AR anyway.
Pulse Rifle Changes
My favorite class of weapon for non-objective PvP. The changes seem mostly to bring them in line. Subtle changes, and the debuff comes with a mag increase. Not much to note here.
Scout Rifles
The DMR of Destiny. I don't use them because their RoF doesn't feel deadly enough, so the PvE boost might get me to use them more. Not much changes here either, imo.
HandCannons
Seems like they want them to be more obvious in their role.. i can see where it's confusing that an HC can act like a sniper, without the tradeoff of having scope gleam coming off you when using one. Snipers should be the only 1HK non-Rocket weapon in this game, because it's more obvious what does what, so the perk stack changes seem fine. I don't use them much so no much commentary here.
Shotguns
The PvE debuff is so tiny I don't even know why they made the change...
This is the type of weapon I like to use, followed closely by Pulse rifles. I consider this tidbit more important than anything:
With 2.0.0, our Sandbox programmers have granted the ability to independently tune Range and Damage Falloff.
This means a lot for the future of everything, as I'm assuming they'll be able to have guns with really long range but severe damage falloff, which gives all weapons pinging capability but doesn't also force them to be super useful at that range. This is a good move even outside of ARs.
Changes:
Increase base damage
Start damage falloff closer to the player to emphasize its role as a close to medium range weapon
Small reduction in base stability. Landing shots at optimal range is unaffected, but repeated precision hits require more weapon control to land consistently
Boost damage by 10% against AI combatants

Thorn
This change was needed and was known to be an issue. Reducing and forcing a stack of the poison makes a lot of sense. I always thought maybe they could change it to forcing you to hold the trigger to keep the DOT going on the thorn, like a tethergun of sorts where you have to trade off DOT for being able to do anything else, but this works too. I have a feeling this gun is going to get patched a lot..
Ice Breaker
The gun's burst DPS has not changed, merely the speed at which you can get up to DPS. People will probably start using this gun the way it should be, where you use it to burst DPS then use other guns while it passively recharges, then burst your DPS again.
No Land Beyond
Besides it's PvE suckage, I've always liked this gun for how unique it is in the Destiny sandbox. I hope the changes actually make it more viable. Still not sure it'll make it worth it as a Sniper Primary.
Black Hammer
Once again, the burst DPS changes from "infinite" to "balanced". It would have made sense if this was an exotic, but I guess Bungie is not willing to change a gun from Legendary to Exotic at the moment, so it has to eat a debuff instead to make it act more like a Legendary. I wouldn't be surprised if an Exotic imitation was in TTK.
B-horn
This RL got out of control, and as they pointed out, was starting to make the community gate other community members off just for not having it. Noticed it even before they mentioned it. This can't be solved either by giving everyone the gun either, since now you're basically forced to forgo any other exotic. The nerf was obvious from a mile away and everyone saw it coming. Bungie has repeatedly stated since Halo 2 that they don't want One Gun Above All, they aren't going to change that concept now. Multiple MMOs tombstone superweapons like Horn all the time, Destiny can't escape it either.
Thunderlord
While not specifically mentioned in this update, the Perfect Balance nerf will make this gun act more like a machine gun than the secret sniper rifle it currently is. I barely ever actually use Tlord in full auto, but single shots to snipe people in PvP. I'll miss it but it makes sense to change it.

I saw the invite, couldnt hop in because I had to bang out some homework. But yeah - your whole setup is shit now breh lol
You can dismantle the Commendations for rep. You only need Marks to buy vendor gear now. That hoop was removed.
If an exotic drops for you now, or you buy one from Xur, you don't need to upgrade it with Etheric Light. It levels like anything before. The last bubble only requires a single Exotic shard, which all Exotics will give you upon dismantling.
Any pre-HoW drops require an Etheric Light to ascend to max attack or light level. Any Legendary or Exotic can be ascended, so you can be max level and wearing all Vault armor.
You can get to Light Level 32 solely off the vendors, who sell 36 light armor. This lets you play the 32 PoE, which is a guaranteed Armor Core drop, which will give you a 42 light piece of armor from Fallen McLimbarms. And Xur sells 42 light armor.
So if you are at max Crucimarks and Vanguard Marks, you could buy two pieces of 36 light armor, buy an exotic off Xur, then play PoE 32 and buy the last piece of armor and be Level 34 within an hour.
If you don't want to spend any marks, you can play the PoE 32 once a week for 4 weeks, they rotate through each piece of armor category once a week so you'll have a full suit of 42 light / Level 34 armor that way with ZERO RNG.

Bought an exotic helmet from Xur, had enough vanguard marks to get arm and leg armor....it's just.
I have all this Destiny info in my head and now a lot of it is obsolete, not sure if I want to learn this game's currency systems all over again. It's tedious.

It was over complicated before, think of this this way
- They throw so many planetary mats at you passively you don't see people mat farming anymore. You barely have to think about it. You can trade also Marks for Planetary Mats at the Quartermasters. I think it's 10 marks for 20 mats off the top of my head.
- Raid specific gear and weapons requires Raid specific mats to level it up. You don't have to worry about those mats anymore otherwise for max level purposes, only if you want to max out Raid gear and ascend it.
it's confusing coming from the previous updates, but once you get going you'll notice how much it's been streamlined. The Queen storyline also dumps a ton of glimmer on you.

Another thing, marks are generally a lot easier to acquire across the board now. Particular in Crucible. It used to take something close 30-40 games to max out crucible marks for the week but a few months back that was changed. I think its 6 marks per game now. Also, the drop rates in crucible have gone waaaaaaaaaay up. Daily Crucible game gets you guaranteed drop/engram too.
Since I've been leveling my Warlock from essentially scratch, I've kinda noticed how the hurdles in leveling are a bit different if you're NOT brand new to the game and are instead picking up from where you left off (vanilla, pre-tdb, etc). Material requirements on old legendary gear is fucking insane in comparison to the new stuff lol. Not even talking about raid gear. Just basic stuff you would've picked up at a vendor. Its not just much, much weaker than it used to be, but its also exponentially more difficult to upgrade it.
I'm not saying scrap it on sight, but it may not be worth upgrading fully. Keep it around, if you have the space. Maybe it'll be able to ascended or something after TTK (I seriously doubt it but it could be valuable... you never know). In the meantime, do the story stuff for some free gear. I think you can start The Queen's storyline around level 26 or so (not saying that it'll be easy either way) for some quick cash, experience, and weapons. The Prison of Elders at level 28 is solid plan to get some decent, up-to-date gear quick. Even with Destiny's absolutely shameful player pool, you should be able to power through it with even the worst of matchmade parties.

There will be more choices than ever to arm yourself in the Tower. Factions will have their own guns. Classes will have their own guns. More Quests will lead you directly to specific guns. Even the Gunsmith will have a new way to include you in his enterprise. We’ll inspect all of that as well before you earn the means to equip yourselves to meet a rising threat.
Suros weapons always look dope.
I played some PvP the other day and my "For The People" is still my best weapon, did alright with "The Last Word", tried a scout rifle for a bit but they take too many hits to down someone, don't think they're a viable PvP weapon.
The damage tweaks take place when Taken King drops?

Yeah. Although I'm guessing it's actually a week before Taken King drops, since they always release the patch with the expansion data a week before the expansion actually comes out.

My biggest gripe was that I had no friends ever playing the game and therefor only progressed so far. Jumping into random online matches with teams that don't play like teams kinda sucked and it started to get pretty "grindy" for a shooter.
I haven't played in quite some time though so maybe I'll jump back in if you all give positive impressions. I'm progressing nicely in Bloodborne right now though so who knows lol
