Brooklyn even gave up picks from 2019?
obviously you've got to scout your ass off and develop the talent–but there's been enough guys popping up over the last five drafts to stop tossing them into the wind–Draymond, Jae Crowder, Khris Middleton, Will Barton, Clarkson, Chandler Parsons, Isaiah Thomas–just to name a few.
That ain't shit, Knicks gave up a 2020 and 2021 2nd rounder.
By Bowser Go To PostESPN sources say Hornets and Rockets have discussed a potential Dwight Howard-to-Charlotte trade but have not managed to find workable dealI've already accepted it

It's still a real possibility. As I said last week, #Hornets are very interested. There is pressure on front office.
:O
By DY_nasty Go To PostRoberts barely played at all this year and last year was straight fukkery for everyone in Charlotte with WOAT spacing. He's just not fixing the team in any sort of way. Just seems like maybe the heat are shoring up at the PG in case they move dragic, or that they're packaging him to make salaries work in another deal.
His only NBA qualities are passing to the post and spot up shooting.
Beggars trying to be choosers rn
really makes no sense otherwise

It's worth keeping a handful of them around for use in trades, but that's the main use of them. If you just hoard them and have a bunch in a single year, you won't have enough roster spots to try them all out.
I just don't think second rounders are worth much discussion on since it is such a small chance they do anything for a given team. You will always want one or two every year in the draft to see if you struck lightening, but even then, you will be going several years between drafts getting anything worth keeping.
Memphis isn't getting a bunch for this draft, they're staggered for future drafts. So the 2nd rounder either proves their worth or gets replaced by a new project player.
By DY_nasty Go To PostYou were expecting a steal? You got a 3rd string pg brehnaw, not a steal, just someone that actually helps the team. If youre just bringing in slightly better gerald green then it makes no sense. If youre gonna use him to make another move then, yeah, this makes sense.

By vic Go To PostHey DY, what''s your opinion on P.J. Hariston game?Trash. His J is broke and his D has zero focus. Might surprise you every once in a while but... He had to go.
It's not even like he's on his rookie contract anymore either. We declined the option. He's a UFA.
Oh Hairston didn't get an extension? Oh so this move is just to get as cheap as possible for the eventually Conley and Durant max salaries we are going to have to give out this summer. Makes sense.

I mean there are literally those same odds in some 1st round drafts bro

Time to increase Vince's minutes :/

This is a future move for Memphis. There are no immediate winners, but Memphis wins in the long run.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostI mean there are literally those same odds in some 1st round drafts broNot until you get into the 20's. Top 3 you are almost guaranteed a star. 4-10 is starter. 11-19 is normally a bench player with a small, but reasonable chance at starter. Anything beyond that is a complete crapshoot where you will be happy if you get someone in your 12-deep.

And you're right, a 2nd rounder isn't as valuable. But they have value.
Oh fucking hell. The car that hit Ingrid Williams was going 92 in a 45. >:(

By giririsss Go To PostThose are what you hope to get. Those aren't what you will get.Yeah, they do have some value. Just... not enough to judge a trade as a failure because someone traded a couple second rounders for people who can actually play a few minutes a game competently.
And you're right, a 2nd rounder isn't as valuable. But they have value.
By PSYCH! Go To PostWould Charlotte give up Kaminsky in a Dwight deal?I strongly doubt it.
By DY_nasty Go To PostIf we get Dwight, we're basically SVG Magic.
I can kind of see that but you would have to wait for Dwight's FA. No way you guys trade with Morey and he doesn't come away with either Batum or Williams. He's too greedy to do it any other way.
By The Frankman Go To PostPlz Jason Kidd give the Knicks MCW for Calderon
… oh God this is what it's come down to
I am actually waiting on Jennings now. Apparently it's been reported he wanted to go to NY. Maybe Orlando cuts him to save the money..... And yeah I still like MCW. Getting both would unfortunately be a legit upgrade and could help them ruin that Raptors pick.
By Kibner Go To PostYeah, they do have some value. Just… not enough to judge a trade as a failure because someone traded a couple second rounders for people who can actually play a few minutes a game competently.Judge their situation.
With Marc out, they're not competing this year. They were already struggling to get on the GSW/Spurs tier.
As C.Lee's biggest defender on the forum, I think he's a good player, but they don't have a ton of trade assets that people want. Memphis want to keep Conley & Gasol. So they can trade Jeff Green, Courtney Lee, Tony Allen, Z-bo, Vince. The last 3 aren't getting you anything. The first two are the only interesting pieces.
For the opportunity to swing a better trade later, open up cap space, or have a shot at drafting another young rookie contract player, they essentially gave up nothing, keeping their core intact.
Memphis got a lot out of the C.Lee deal. A lot.
By Kibner Go To PostAre people seriously highly valuing second round picks in here? Like only five out of thirty turn into anything playable in a good draft.Let's face it a lot of these teams could use rookies and actually make a system in which they learn and grow. But instead you've got owners and GMs who want to play musical chairs and desire insta-results with the same fucking players thinking they're going to work wonders on a new team.
By giririsss Go To Post*description of the Grizz situation*I understand what you are saying. I wasn't commenting on any specific trade, just posts that were like "Why would you give up two seconds for <player>? There's a good chance one of those seconds will be a starter!"
I'm down with using seconds as an easily transferable form of NBA player currency that can be used in trades or as the cost for taking a low-risk gamble that pays off if you hit the jackpot.

Congrats, DY.

By Koko Go To PostMemphis can't tank. Denver owns their first round pick if it falls between 6-14.Considering this years prospects. Tanking and losing a 12-14 pick wouldn't be that bad and definitely better than possible alternatives.
I'm gonna laugh is Morey ends up with nothing and Dwight walks this summer. I'm gonna laugh even harder is he walks and still gets less than the max.

Cho workin' Woj to get that price down. We bout to ship Big Al, Zeller, and a lotto-protected 1st to Morey.

its really not that hard to intentionally foul

Meh ... it was pathetic, but in retrospect I'm not that salty we lost him anymore. He's not been the same post surgery and I don't think is worth maxing out. We got rid of Bynum in the deal to acquire Dwight as well. If Houston loses Dwight for nothing in return and Dwight get less than the max playing as a 3rd option somewhere all salt will be gone.
