Jackson had already considered Rambis, Shaw and Cleamons for the job in 2014.
I can't believe we have to stick with this stubborn SOB for the next 3 seasons.
This move is Jackson saying "we fucked up, Dolan wants change, and he's stuck with me electing to make the same mistake over and over again".

By Gabyskra Go To PostIt will be Rambis to end the season. It'll be Rambis ending your season alright. He's legit one of the worst coaching in league history. A god damn tire fire.
Bad rotations, bad schemes and personality that alienates everyone. The Knicks will give up more open 3s than you've ever seen in your life and it'll be by design.
I'm so happy right now. Rambis is back!
That's that Knicks dysfunction we know and love.
You just gotta fire your coach after he gets his squad to overachieve for half a season.....they lost 9 of the last 10 but iirc there were a few close games.
Thibs name is being bounced around, Shaw and Rambis too lol. Aw man Gluck Knicks-Slaent.

By KingGondo Go To PostSpurs aren't really either. Their metro area is huge.San Antonio is definitely near the bottom of most NBA TV market rankings.
With Rambis coaching before the trade deadline, Phil is gonna fire sale and go into full tank, isn't he? We might see a double digit losing streak after all.
EDIT: Oh they don't have a pick... So most definitely they'll try grabbing a lottery pick.

I think it'll kind of a monumental accomplishment if the Knicks can play like .300 ball the rest of the way. I really don't like Sam Mitchell, but he can at least put the right players on the floor most of the time. Rambis was playing dudes like Ryan Hollins and Oleksiy Pecherov over Kevin Love for two years.
Firing Fish doesn't make sense unless he did something wild we haven't heard about.
Losing doesn't benefit NY and their only assets are over paid Melo and Porzingis who shouldn't be moved unless its for a young established star.
They shoulda just rode it out. There's only like 3 coaches who would run the triangle and 2 are confirmed trash, 1 of them is the interim coach. Running a completely new offense/defense for the last 3rd of the season....that's a recipe for some losing streaks.

By reilo Go To PostIf the Knicks don't manage to even reach 30 wins this season lol.Look, the guy now helming the ship started Darko Milicic over Kevin Love. I don't want the Knicks to totally fall apart, but you could make the argument that Rambis is the worst coach in league history. Going from Fisher, who wasn't great, but it still better, to Rambis is falling off a cliff.

I have no question in my mind that Phil saw what us fans all saw: Fisher is horribly inconsistent, lacks passion, and just sometimes doesn't even looks like he cares to be on the court. Fisher is also directly involved in growing KP as a player, and PJ is probably concerned that KP's hit a wall seemingly out of nowhere.
When Mike Breen and Clyde Frazier rib you during games and in the middle of commentary because of some obvious judgement errors you're committing and you're aloof to it...it's time to go.
It's really strange to hire a freshly-retired player to be a head coach of a rebuild, put constraints on the type of offense and defensive schemes he's allowed to coach, and then not even give him enough time to actually grow into the role and learn to become a headcoach.
Even worse yet, he's gonna go after another rookie coach in Luke Walton to replace Fisher and do the exact same thing.

It's just a prospect though. Jackson was a very defensive minded coach. The rest of the Knick staff knows how to handle triangle plays, but now they need someone who can really get the defensive intensity of this team up. I think Thibs will be the head coach before Feb ends. And PJ will keep him under watch to make sure he doesn't burn players out.
If you want a better defensive team, you shouldn't build a core that has Calderon, Carmelo, and a rookie PF in Prozingis to be defensive stalwarts. Not to mention your key contributors off the bench being a bunch of young players, some dude named Lance Thomas, Vujacic, and Derrick Williams.
Not even Pop could get those guys to be a good defensive team in under a season and a half.

Porzingis is their best defender.
Fish helping make that team as good as they were for 2/3 of a season is kinda commendable, the expectations are way too high if being 8 games below .500 with those pieces isn't good enough.
Crazy. If he lost the team or the locker room, then Yea he had to get fired. It just didn't seem like it because so many of the losses were close, competitive games.
There's gotta be some other situation there that led to the firing.

But yes, it is mainly a personel issue. The team is poorly thought out.

Melo, KP, and Lopez are a good defensive front court this season. The problem is the guard position where we lack size and athletic players.

Asked if Carmelo Anthony is "off the table" in trade talks, Phil said, "I think it's well known Carmelo has a no-trade [clause]."LOL

By charsace Go To PostDo you watch the Knicks? Melo, KP, and Lopez are a good defensive front court this season. The problem is the guard position where we lack size and athletic players.KP being good defensively is a surprise, but I feel like you guys are missing the overall point: If the defense sucks, it's on Phil because he didn't build around a good defensive core. KP being good defensively as a rookie was wholly unexpected.
Phil wouldn't rule out contacting Tom Thibodeau, but made it clear that relationship with next coach important. He and Thibs not close.I don't understand. Someone please help me understand. Wasn't Fisher that guy?
If you lose 9 of 10 or you underachieve you deserve to potentially be fired. This is a wholly different situation than earlier in the year when they were beating much more talented teams and playing solid defense regularly.
It did seem like, with the injuries and close games, that the team was still tuned in. But it's undeniable that the defensive execution AND the offensive execution slipped over the past month. I would imagine that outside of some serious inner locker room conflicts, the regression of execution is what's so maddening to Phil.

Basically he hasn't evolved and losing 10-11 games and saying all the wrong things didn't help.
They should do a trade though
RT @joefav Since Jeff Van Gundy resigned in December 2001, #Knicks have had 9 head coaches in 15 seasons, & total of 7 playoffs wins. is it the coach?
Worst part for NY, this really doesn't help their rebranding as a competently run team. If they trade away Afflalo for a marginally better but older and more handsomely paid player it'd be like nothing ever changed.
I haven't been on here in forever. Was in SF two weeks ago, watched the SA/GS game at a bar and my boy got us tickets to the DAL game, really great atmosphere.
The Knicks right now would be better off trading high on Melo and just loading up on picks/youth. Build around Porzingis and hopium if you're going to be a bad team.

"Vivek Ranadive was hailed as a savior when he bought the Kings from the Maloof family in 2013, yet three years into his regime fans have to wonder: Would they take the Maloofs back? "
wtf
Jebus what a joke article. Fans have issues with the organization, but Trying and screwing up is a far far distance away from not trying and secretly selling the team to anyone but Sacramento.
Ranadive is a fuck up so far but yeeeeaaaa. I doubt Kigs fans would enjoy Maloof ownership again lol.
I like the Vlade hire, it just happened too late I think. He was brought in to stable a big mess.
Etio, I thought Vivek was just the face of the ownership group and could himself be replaced?

Vivek could possibly be put up for and lose a vote for confidence in leadership of ownership group and be out as head of group. He is face, but also has most say in these matters. He does have to deal with the ownership group though. The Karl hire is an idea started by PDA/Mullin, and then really pushed by fans after Corbin sucked, and pushed by minority owners once the fans pushed for it.
Overall, Vivek's influence on decisions has dropped a lot since two years ago. Right now, it's Vlade making calls.
