By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostIf a teams best player(s) can't make uncontested shots they ain't shit as a squad…..Stolen from a different forum:
I'm not even saying make them at a high level but at least be clutch with them
There shouldn't be any victims because you shouldn't be able to be a professional basketball player if you can't shoot free throws at a rate approaching expected points per standard possession, which for most teams is a comically low barrier.
Clippers do 1.05 points per possession. If Jordan hit 52.3% FT or close to it, then it would not be a viable strategy to foul him.
Pistons do 1.02 points per possession. If Drummond hit 51.0% FT or close to it, then it would not be a viable strategy to foul him.
Those are extremely low barriers to making the strategy non-viable. The fact that those guys can't hit free throws at a failure-tier clip of 51-52% is disgusting.
Howard as a 54.7% FT shooter actually clears the barrier (barely), so it's a risky gamble to foul him at this point.
seriously hope they don't change the rule. it's like rewarding a player for being less than mediocre.
By PSYCH! Go To Postseriously hope they don't change the rule. it's like rewarding a player for being less than mediocre.I'm torn
because the tactuic isn't even that effective, and that's kinda the problem.. at this rate teams doing it for the sake of doing it, its only sacrifice the watcher because that.
If the tactic is pretty effective swing, maybe.. but I now kinda question does we lose anything with ruling this?
By PSYCH! Go To Postseriously hope they don't change the rule. it's like rewarding a player for being less than mediocre. It's not. They feel the pain when they're up for FTs that could make or break a game without any purposeful hacking. There have been weak FT shooters in the past, this is just the culmination of exploiting the current set of rules.

This is an entertainment product and it's not entertaining to see intentional fouls, I feel like people care too much about the moral implications of rule changes.
DeMarcus Cousins postgame:
"I’m not going to keep blaming these guys in the locker room,” Cousins said. “Energy and effort is a huge part of the game, but I’m not going to keep blaming it on that. We’ve got a bigger issue, and we need to figure it out as a team.”
What is that issue?
“I’d rather keep it in house, but we definitely have a bigger issue than just energy and effort,” Cousins said. “That can’t be the excuse every night. ... We’re going to work it out as a team, and hopefully we can fix this.”
Rajon Rondo on Kings' "selfish" defense:
“It has nothing to do with the coaches,” Rondo said. “It’s about us. We don’t sacrifice enough to do what it takes to win consecutive games. We overhelped tonight, but in that case, it’s about team defense. We didn’t help the helper on both ends of the floor, but it has to start on defense.”
Both real issues. Rondo himself cheats and goes free safety off the ball, leaving his man open for threes too often. They do not rotate through a whole shot clock, but the defensive scheme puts them in bad spots. They want a fast, quick running rotating defense with Marco Bellinelli, Cousins and Rudy Gay. Honestly, there's two players on the roster designed for the defensive scheme they use: McLemore and WCS. Both have a short leash and get pulled quickly for unknown reasons. Marco is used during important defensive possessions. Karl said Seth Curry was their best on ball defender and then stopped playing him.
It doesn't make sense. The roster could use an athletic wing defender and defensive leader, but even making that move then you'd still have system issues.
Like as bad as the team's defense has been, the offensive system feeds into it. High turnovers, rushed pace that lead to bad shots or TOs, that turn into fast breaks the other way. Cousins hanging out at the perimeter. Little cutting. Guys gotta cut, but the offense goes to poop without Cousins posting up. Oddly, Chad Iske (who does the majority of in-game coaching for Karl) thinks Cousins is a better perimeter player than a post player.
So there's some roster issues and guys not always rotating hard, but there's also a lot of effort. You see guys going for chase down blocks and running at the league's highest pace. The whole season it felt like there was energy being used but in non-efficient ways.

By Moris Go To PostWoj saying Kings strongly considering axing Karl.
Remember the good two weeks the Kings had this season, good times, worth 8 draft picks.
Apparently it's at "If Karl can actually put in some changes and adjustments then things can be fine."
However, it's like 50 or so games into the season and he's yet to adjust to the issues. The team wants to win. Karl wants to play like the Nuggets did.
I'd be surprised if he compromises.

Horny's system doesn't fit either, though I assume you're joking.
I imagine that if Karl gets let go, then Corliss or Nancy Lieberman take over because Chad Iske would be fired, too. They just let the intern coach out the rest of the season and likely try to bring in Thibs. There's some talk of Brooks, but I'd rather have Thibs obviously. Cousins, Rondo and Gay all know him. Would probably put Boogie back in the post. (I'd like to see Cousins operate out of the high post with some cutting and movement, use his passing and whole skillset.)

"IT'S THE BIGGEST GAME JUST BECAUSE IT IS THE NEXT GAME." ~Isaiah Thomas, on THIS game
Cs are in Cleveland. Cavs are all abuzz—
Against the Hornets, an awful game that was.
A-S IT has always had trouble, home and here,
Worst performances are vs Cavs throughout his career.
Cavs a 14-2 start with Smith and Love’s threes.
Every time toward our hoop calls against the Cs.
Two quick fouls A-S IT, then one was taken away (?).
AB FOR THREE! Love watching Smart play!
Cs turnovers galore. Crowd’s booing Olynyk each touch.
Hope that doesn’t distract him—and the Cs—too much.
Tweaked ankle A-S IT,
To the locker room went he ;(
SMART FOR THREE! Cs within 12 start Q2.
A-S IT hurt, sloppy TOs, could have been worse—phew.
AB FOR THREE! Cs a 12-2 run—
Cs’ ball movement, assists, A-S IT (ok) get it done.
Great confidence Zeller! Love knocked HIMSELF down—
Call on Crowder? Cs, hard to settle down.
Cavs stopped moving the ball, LeBaby looking to pass,
Cs running the floor, swarming D, en masse!
From 15 down, Cs pull within 6 start Q3.
Cs continued 16-4 run. Glad Amir is a C!
Cavs 0 for 10. Cs LEAD, on AB FOR THREE!
Sully’s fadeaway! Thompson not enough D.
Three tries for Crowder, couldn’t make the hoop.
LeBaby always gets the call—how low the refs stoop.
Cavs a 7-0 run. A-S IT called for a T (?).
JR stayed hot. Mosgov a huge guy is he.
Crowder seems hobbled. Olynyk’s still booed.
Cavs a 12-2 run. Love’s an annoying dude.
Irving never misses. Smart coast to coast!
What heart! Of his talents he makes the most!
Love skidded, looks like he hurt his right knee.
I could watch all day Smart on LeBaby playing D.
Just 1 TO, Cs within 8 start Q4.
Jefferson plays the same, 15th year on the floor.
Love, thigh bruise. Turner great stop and go!
Thompson and Irving lock arms—refs say no.
A-S IT FOR THREE! Back and forth lead.
Zeller providing offense the Celtics need!
LeBaby Tebow-ing, hard hit from the Swede;
So it happens when you go with that speed.
A foul on LeBaby??? No one call believe the call!
Smart can—he’s the one who took the fall!
Excellent communication among our guys
(Amazing they can hear over the Cavs’ whiny cries).
Crowd boos. Cs 25-9 (11-2) run.
Crowder playing LeBaby can’t be fun.
Oops, JR fouled Turner, a miss and a make
(To win this game a miracle it would take)!
For his first basket, CROWDER FOR THREE!
Celtics ball! SMART, AMAZING IS HE!
CELTICS WON BY 1 on AB FOR THREE!
WHAT A NIGHT TO BE A C.

That's why I like the idea behind allowing the team that is fouled (and in the bonus) have the choice of letting the player fouled take free throws or just take an inbound on the side.
By PSYCH! Go To Postmight as well take away fouling all together. would boost` the entertainment value way upI would also be ok with this. As is, I just tune out and fuck with my phone when I'm at a game and someone's taking free throws.
Personally, I think basketball is at its best when players are showing off athleticism, skill, creativity, and teamwork at a smooth pace (not herky-jerky from whistles blowing plays dead). In general, any rule change that leads to that kind of basketball being encouraged will be a plus to me.

In general, any rule change that leads to that kind of basketball being encouraged will be a plus to me.idk, the way I look at it as it pertains to the intentional fouling situation is that it's taking away the ability to punish the other team for playing someone who is dogshit at getting the easiest points in basketball.
Feels even weirder that we're changing the rule due to probably a handful of guys who aren't even that good to begin with. How many teams does the hack-a situation apply to? Clippers,Rockets and who else?
idk, I'd much rather see a change or an improvement in the refereeing before any rule changes.
On another note, this made me chuckle.
I know I don't like seeing a free throw parade. It's boring, it takes away form the rest of the game and just bogs the pace down, even when it's occasionally effective. I don't have a problem with them changing the rules.
Like, people paid money to watch the game. Don't give them DeAndre Jordan shooting 30 foul shots.

I would support further research into making off ball fouls in the bonus be an automatic free point and the ball.

If they want to add something that punishes excessive off-ball intentional fouls then I'm okay with that. If they remove FT shooting for bad shooters then fuck that. That's hurting the entertainment value for me.
More than 2-3 off-ball intentional fouls in a quarter leads to a technical on the player committing the next off-ball intentional foul.
