By rodeoclown Go To PostHey, I don't condone the Timberwolves throwing away last year for a shot at Towns, even if it worked. As somebody that pays for this product, I hate the idea that you would ask people to come give you money for the right to see Zach LaVine play point guard for 40 minutes on a 17 win tank squad. I've always been strongly anti-tanking.Yup. I also never want my team to tank. It's why I'm ok with the "young vet" approach to building around a young star that Demps is using. I don't like most of the big decisions he made while pursuing it, but I like the idea. With that strategy, the team has players that are talented enough to win games and push for the playoffs but still young enough to give hope that they can continue to improve to something more.
Hell, even when the team is bad, having some veterans play well but just not having enough talent to win can be fun. The year after CP3 was traded was my first year as a STH and remains one of my favorite teams because they obviously left everything on the court. Bellinelli was the leading minutes guy, iirc.
Why would Houston even waive Lawson instead of just declining his team option in the off-season? Hell, they can even tell him to stop reporting to the team facilities if they don't want him around anyone.
e: or am i just terribly misremembering the contract he has?

ESPN sources say that the Pistons have offered center Joel Anthony to the Houston Rockets in exchange for PF Donatas MotiejunasTeams just trolling Morey at this point lmao
Huh, apparently Stokes is being traded to the Pels for a "very highly protected pick". They don't even know if he will be part of the active roster or still in the D-League.

Not surprising, it's just a salary dump for Miami to trim their luxury tax bill.

The Jazz may consider Shelvin Mack a "safer" addition at PG now that they've reportedly decided not to trade for Ty Lawson.
The Jazz had "casual" talks about Lawson but his off-court issues, combined with some negative things he's said about Utah, may have caused them to look elsewhere. Mack's value would likely spike with the Jazz, especially if he landed a starting gig, so this is a situation to watch with the deadline upon us.

Miami kicks in $700,000-plus in cash to New Orleans for Pelicans to take in Jarnell Stokes and reduce Heat tax bill by a further $2 million
Alright Morey, might as well go all in and take the Big Al/Hawes poo-poo platter for Dwight. Cho'll throw in a lottery-protected 2016 1st too.
By Moris Go To PostHouston gonna reboot?Probably, kinda. They got Joel Anthony (lol) and a protected first round pick from Detroit.

Harden and Some of the young guys likely he only ones off the table. Dwight probably gone today, I'd expect Lawson gone or waived. Not sure what Ariza's market looks like.
Lawson turning down the best basketball opportunity he will get for the rest of his career is really stupid.
Still noth8my on the Knicks front although I've heard that teams have asked about the rights to Hernangomez.

Zach Lowe @ZachLowe_NBA 9m9 minutes agoI would have paid him over Jones, tbh. If only his back held up. :\
HOU fans are gonna be mad, but top-8 protected pick (via @TimBontemps) is solid return for injured RFA Rox didn't want to pay.

@SlipperyVitch
@MasonGinsberg @FletcherMackel Pels made as much in one phone call as Fletch does in 5-7 years of work. Yeah, embarrassing

By Bowser Go To PostCavs are trading for Channing Frye with Varejao being rerouted to Portland in a 3-team deal.
I like that trade for the Cavs obviously. What is Orlando getting?
By rodeoclown Go To PostI'd trade for the right to pay Terrence Jones. Like right now. Let's call this in.What are you gonna give us?
By diehard Go To PostEh thats actually a good return for a guy that is always injuredAre you talking about Varejao?
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostI like that trade for the Cavs obviously. What is Orlando getting?
Not sure, but wouldn't be surprised if it's just cash or a phantom pick. They can trade Frye into Cleveland's Brandon Haywood trade exception: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=hqyzz5x
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostI like that trade for the Cavs obviously. What is Orlando getting?
probably nothing, portland can just absorb varejao's deal
By chandlerparsons Go To PostAre you talking about Varejao?Sorry no, D-Mo.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostCavs got their love replacementFrye is a bad Love replacement. Only has value by being someone tall that can shoot from 3. Doesn't really provide much else on offense and isn't a particularly good rebounder, iirc.
Gone by next year imo
By Red Blaster Go To Postprobably nothing, portland can just absorb varejao's dealIf Orlando isn't getting anything, why make the trade? Just as a salary dump?
