RIP Baldy's Achilles...Weight loss/Weight lifting Thread
- Page 1 of 1
We're all getting older and getting more lazy with our fitness. You're either a fatass like myself now a days, or skinny fat like DY. I fully expect Black Mamba to come in here and tell us how hes scaled the Himalayas last weekend with his girlfriend, while carrying her on his back...
So with that being said, lets talk it up and stick to it (AGAIN). If I can go from a 400+lb fat fuck, you can lose some of that belly you've grown the last 6 months. I know everyones schedule and life is different but there should be no excuses to eat good and workout at least 30mins a day.
-----------------------------------
I've been working a new job thinking of all sorts of excuses not to stick to a regime...My focus just wasn't where it was 2 years ago. This time around I think I would like to have some like-minded people who wanna do the same. I'm gonna do some shopping tomorrow, I've been so lazy, my costco membership lapsed. The plan is to go high protein(chicken breast, turkey breast, steak ) and low carb for the first month and refuel on the weekends with a moderate carb day of about 150g of carbs. Basically meat and veggies..
Chicken
Steak
Turkey breast
Tuna
Salmon
Broccoli
Salad
Spinach
Collard greens
Celery
Carrots
I want to go pretty clean and keep it going. I think its a very good starting off point. Enough protein to fill in for the lower number of carbs I'll be taking in. When I have a full meal plan, I'll post it. In the meantime share and lets get shit back on track.

I am in
I'm a skinny fat if that makes sense
5'11 152 lbs
But it's more about lifestyle change for me
Also, I've got dick clue how to properly cook veggies to taste decent.

Also, I've got dick clue how to properly cook veggies to taste decent.boil them to the point they're cooked but doesn't bend (like broccolli)
drain water, and while the vegetables are still steaming, add butter, a little bit of salt and pepper.
thank me later.
also, i started running again.
i'd like to lose 5-10lbs in about 7 weeks.

Brocolli is super simple to cook properly.
Cut the brocolli up into edible chunks (or larger if you like, but cut out the really super think stems)
Put on a pot of water. Get it boiling. The pot you want is going to be bigger than you think. Probably your largest sauce pan. Because when you throw in the brocolli, you don't want the temperature to drop much.
When the water is on a rapid boil, throw in the brocolli. It's going to take about 3 - 5 minutes to cook. You'll know it's about done, when it goes super bright green.
Drain it into a sieve/collander what ever you like. And run just tap water over it for a minute. Stops the cooking process, so that the brocolli retains that snap to it.
Veggies SHOULDN'T be super soggy for the most part. Most should have a snap to them still.
As soon as I can get my wife to Red Robin for their bottomless fries as my last pre-diet splurge, I'll be in.
I've been making steady progress during the past year, the previous two years were average because of changing moods. Better chest, broader shoulders, better arms. My pride used to be my legs but my knees are fucked up from playing so much basketball over the years, I now have to do Hyalgan injections yearly... Very frustrating. I'm 6'2", 180 pounds, I need to do just a bit of cutting before I go bulking again. Thing is, as I move to the US from France, I know my perception will change SO MUCH, you guys have no idea how much skinnier everyone is in Europe.

Yeah.
Europe was terrible for me. Felt like a fuckn massive giant while i was there. Got home from that trip and dropped 25lpbs.

Veggies are awesome. Do you eat salads?
As for cooking, one way is how viakado said. Only, add chili flakes or something else for more spice for seasoning in addition.
You can also take broccolie, zuccinni/yellow squash, shrooms, onion (prefer ref) and sautee on in a little olive oil til they are cooked, then season em. Or string beans in butter and season.
Stir fry is also easy. If you're lazy, buy it from trader joes. Or do the same I said previously only with some soy sauce or teriyaki added (and add some bok choy to it).
Another easy veggie thing to do is take asparagus and/or broccoli and/or brussell sprouts and line on a baking sheet (foil on it). Take a bowl and mix granulated (or fresh minced) garlic, salt, pepper, chili flakes, olive oil and spread the mixture on the veggies. Oven at 400 for 20 minutes, but at the 15 minute mark take them out and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on it and put it back. Delicious.
Buttered carrots. Just some melted butter and olive oil mixed with salt/pepper mixed onto 1 inch cut carrots on a baking sheet. 425 for 15 min.
If you want to do a bit more work, take broccoli and/or cauliflower and cut them into florets. Take 1 egg, salt + pepper, beat. Dip broccoli/cauli into egg then into bread crumbs, cook in frying pan with oil. Turn around to make sure all sides cook (a trick I use is to cut the florets in half to make their stems flat). When it's done, sprinkle kosher salt on it. Of course, if you have a deep fryer you can do a real tempura, but this is good too.
Now, if you want to do a lot of work and impress someone, you can do Stuffed Zuccini, which is awesome, imo. I use this recipe when I've done 'em veggie style. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/stuffed-young-zucchini-recipe.html It's really easy, just I find the chopping time consuming (can also use bread crumbs over making your own bread crumbs, btw).
Wow, that's awesome. Thanks!
I guess I'm gonna have to further the skill and art of simultaneous cooking, haha.
And no, I like never eat salads. Ever. That's what I'm trying to change, to be okay with doing that.
I'm going to try that soon and do pictures just for proof!

One of the easiest things to make is rice and salmon filet. Season the salmon ahead of time with a few simple spices.

Salads are great. Unless I have a soup or ordering in, I always have salad. Try something more than plain old ranch from a bottle. Make your own dressing. Do you like balsamic vinegar? What about spinach? Change up your salads.
If you aren't into lettuce much, do this. Dice cucumbers, tomatoes, green onions, bell pepper (not green) add salt and veggie oil. That's it. now, personally, I also like to add kalamata olives, feta cheese, and on occassion radish and dill, but it's not necessary.
Or make a caprese salad. Slice tomatoes, Mozzarella and basil. It's just salt + pepper and olive oil drizzled on. Or I usually like to add some balsamic vinegar to it (actually, I make a reduction but either works).
Here's a simple dressing I make: mayo + mustard + honey + pepper. MIx together (sometimes I add a few drops of water) and that's it. Works great on spinach salads.
Some people like me like pretty much all salads, but the key is to be creative. Figure out which veggies you like and put them in and don't do the same thing every day. Try different dressings. Make your own and stay simple with them. Don't reach for the fatty ranches. A little oil, lemon juice, and salt may be all you need!
I love to add green apples or pears and shredded hazelnuts/walnuts to my salad. Also acceptable are dried fruit and raisins. Think of that as accent flavors.

Salmon is actually quite versatile regarding seasoning. Honey mustard? Balsamic? Teriyaki? just honey? All work. Great with multiple herbs too, cilantro and parsely and thyme.
Lazy, just broil it. Not lazy, pan sear it. It all works. That doesn't include sushi, poached, and lox. Salmon fucking rules.

Almost forgot to mention this. Adding nuts and/or fruits can help as well. Tangerines make a great addition as well.
I try to note what goes into my favorite dishes when I go out.
Most of the time the ingredients are dead simple. The tough part is to know how to cook it.
I'm eating a chicken rice dish right now: fried chicken, white rice, cooked corn, carrots, kimchi, poached egg

i cant do treating salad as a meal
i have never understood it
its not a meal, its a thing that goes with and adds to a meal
chalk it up to mediterranean culture i guess idk, but how can u be happy with some leaves and oil as a whole meal that is bonkers to me
i especially cant deal with that post about apples and nuts in a savoury salad what is wrong with you people

But some of the greatest salads are weird.
Blue cheese and figs with salad leaves and a raspberry vinegerette is a very filling meal. The blue cheese and figs are so rich you don't miss meat.

Some of the best salads I've had is with a little bit of apples and nuts in them. Like I said above, they act as accent flavors. I don't think anyone is saying "only eat salads!" I would never eat a salad on its own. It needs some sort of meat in it.

I can survive on salads alone. Or even just roast veggies.
Put roast pumpkin in a salad and i won't necessarily miss a meat protein.
But in general, add meat.
we should talk about the power of spices tbh
many people v boring cooks because they dont use gud or enough or correct combinations of spices
like they heat up a chicken breast and put barely any salt and no pepper and wonder why they dont have the willpower to stick to their diet
get some cumin, or coriander, or cayenne pepper, or parsley, or all of them, or goddamn anything on there
and dont make chicken breast use the thigh for the love of god
like people literally boil up rice and george foreman up some chicken and wonder why they get bored of their food smh
dieting tip right there, dont eat lazy shitty food and its easier to stick to

That, is a large part of it. You're spot on.
My diet really took off when i learnt how to cook.
Some meal inspirations if anyone needs them: http://someoneatethis.tumblr.com/
Cooking yourself helps immensely. Over this summer I went from 127 pounds (severely underweight, I have IBD) to 142.
I'm 5'10 and a half for reference. Still working on gaining weight, but it's been a hell of an improvement. I want to thank whoever gave me the recommendation for almond milk on here. It has been a godsend.

what have you eaten to help you gain that much weight? I'm pretty much in the same situation, although not severely underweight. I'm 6'0 140.
I can cook some stuff but I'm way too lazy when it comes to food.
I was actually skinny forever, I'm right between Vire/SSJ (5'11 3/4, 150-155 pounds)
I was stuck in the 120-130 range for a while...I have no idea when I hit the 150s. My overall body figure is average/slim, but my belly is the one that sticks out if I'm shirtless...and it sticks out cause everything else is skinny. And I think people here know why, lol. It wasn't there before :-/ But my metabolism is slowing down so yeah...

Guacamole, Hummus and Yogurt snacks throughout the day.
I also make shakes every night to chug down. I put 2 and a half cups of almond milk or whole milk, two tablespoons of peanut butter, 3 ice cubs to give it a malt texture, and a scoop of BSN Syntha-6 Chocolate flavor. It is by far the best tasting protein powder mix I've ever had, and I'm incredibly picky about these kinds of things. This roughly equates to 800-900 extra calories daily.
The shakes is honestly your best bet, it is a really low effort way to gain weight quickly. Just buy a blender and bam.
I also run every other day to keep the fat down. I'm training for a half marathon right now, so far I can do about 7 miles without wanting to kill myself.
Man, all of this dietary stuff sounds magnificent...if you don't have kids. Like, I just baked some frozen flounder, pulled apart some romaine lettuce, and popped popcorn as a side and called that dinner. Zucchini? Cauliflower? I would basically have to take a Home Ec. class to figure this stuff out.
new squat 1RM of 375 tonight! aiming for 405 by october. should be easy.Didn't you break your league last year?

cutting during the fall is really tough
super social time with back to back to back holidays that are absolutely filled to the brim with food and then cold weather
unless you're in hawaii or LA or something though
i'm generally surprised how reguarly people quote their one rep max...i literally haven't done one since high school. just haven't seen the point. i'm always just working on my 3 sets of 6 in whatever I do.

cutting during the fall is really toughi do it because i'm 23 and my goal is to be as strong as possible while still be as shredded as my friends. still got a few more bf% to lose but i'm afraid if i do i will lose strength as well. i also want to weigh 190 eventually and be single digit bf. it's gonna be tough but it's a long slow burn. i love it.

It's the best time for me. Nothing to do but work and work out with YMCA doing things like no signup fees for a month. I'm joining next Thursday on my payday.
Put up 250 on bench today. Swag. Hard to believe there was a time when I couldn't even bench 95 pounds.
