Guardians... anyone else seeing this?
Just saw this yesterday and it might be my favorite superhero movie of the year.
Got my tickets for imax 3D this Sunday. So freaking hyped for the movie! And hell may watch it twice if I go with my cousin and his friends tomorrow.
I had never heard of GotG before this movie came out and I fancy myself a Marvel fan. Then again, I don't care too much for the "cosmic" side of Marvel, such as the Fantastic Four, Captain Marvel, etc.
I wasn't going to see it, but Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 92%, and our kids are coming back in town after six weeks with the grandparents tomorrow, so this will be one of our last date nights of our "empty nest preview."

you people should be ashamed for even mentioning this garbage.
I'm pulling this quote out after every Laker game you watch this season.
This movie was super fun, the audience loved it. I don't know how cynical you'd have to be not to enjoy it.
IMAX 3D was soo worth it. Was surprised at how many people showed up at the first showing this morning and as we got out there was already sizable line for the next showing. :D Anyway movie was incredible, so much damn fun. Rocket and Groot really stole the show. Though Drax was hilarious too. I would have lost my shit if he did a Batista Bomb though.

Tried going at 7:15 at the theater by my house but there was a line around the block so I opted for the 10:15.
Two thumbs up here.
My wife didn't enjoy it, but she admitted that it was well-made. It just wasn't her kind of movie.
It gives me hope that we might see Invincible get made into a film series someday with the same kind of production values GotG had.
Time to cross the R-rated barrier in the superhero genre.

Pretty damn fun. And heartfelt. I did not expect that opening or rockets drunken rant but damn. Not gonna win any awards but what summer tent pole is?
I loved it, which surprised me, I didn't have any expectations going into the movie.
Marvel has a good thing going right now.

In the seventh year of my Ph.D. program in American/African American literature while studying slavery, I was struck with the profound epiphany that social equality is an idyllic illusion. There is no historical precedence for it; inequality/injustice is the only constant.
Is that cynical enough for you? I'm going to see the movie tonight by command of the wife.

That's not cynicism, that's post-structuralism.
Also, the green chick who is really a black chick has a romance with the white lead. Progress.

And here I thought I'd never have to deal with Foucault again. Not in the mood to be pedantic about the particulars, but if you're looking for a dark future, neo-liberalism is a return to feudalism, which is where we're headed in this "global" world. That's hardly "post-structure" to me.
Anyway, I rage every time I see "ambiguously ethnic/explicitly exotic chick ****s the white guy" in the movies, and will continue to do so until a black male lead gets to ride off into the sunset with a white woman. I was mad the entire time I watched The Last King of Scotland, because the first thing white dude does is bang an African chick (and then he gets a piece of the titular character's woman, too). One of the few redeeming qualities of Red Tails was to seen an BM/WF relationship, but of course, he dies because God forbid the possibility of miscegenation! Those ambiguously ethnic/exotic women can exist IRL but they can't be created or bred on-screen. Same with Denzel and white chick in Flight...he loses her with everything else.
This movie owned. Not very gaudy or grand-scale despite the sprawling sci-fi setting, just very simple and sincere in its scope and execution.
+1 for Raccoon and Groot stealing the show.

Saw it today.
Eh…
That's actually how I felt throughout the movie. I should have been expecting something The Mummy-tier, but internet reactions made me expect this generation's The Matrix. It was only after leaving the theatre, away from packed audience that imitated a gag-reel as they laughed at every.single.comedy.attempt. in the movie that was able to enjoy it for what it was, which is a summer blockbuster-type movie made to sell popcorn that everyone will have forgotten by next year, but filled the void left by the *other* supposed-blockbuster that was Transformers.
