The gameplay is similarly familiar. I Am Setsuna’s combat is like a mash-up of various Square games, pulling elements from titles like Chrono Trigger and FF VII. Battles are turn-based, but not random; instead, you’ll see your enemies wandering around, and if you need to you can often avoid fighting them altogether. The game utilizes the active time battle, or ATB, system from the FF series, which lets you know — and sometimes control — when the members of your party can perform actions. Once you’ve settled in with a team and skills, the combat starts to follow a pleasing rhythm.Oh yes. Yes. Much this. All of it.
I agree that literally all of that sounds rad. You'll not find a bigger Chrono Trigger stan than me, I just think they sent this to die with that price point. A game like that, with that 20 hour runtime, just should be more budget priced.
I don't disagree. The fact that I only hear about it today, on release day, and didn't even know this studio existed that was created to fill this sort of void, is a bit troubling. Hopefully, it'll find some success and we'll see the studio keep going. It's also probably emblematic of modern videogame development: eventhough the scope and execution of this was limited on purpose, it still must've been quite expensive to produce.

It feels...weird. Like, KoF's physics are burned into my soul. Rolling & jumping don't feel the same at all. I don't know if it's bad yet, the guys at EVO seemed to be doing just fine. It's just weird.

The game makes an incredibly strong start, but the problem is you see everything there is to see in that start other than getting the gundams you want. The combat is extremely repetitive and instead of learning new combos as you level like in Dynasty Warriors, you unlock skills on anywhere from 10 second to 40 second cooldowns that you can only equip up to 4 with. Every fight takes forever, the missions go for too long, and they reuse the same zones CONSTANTLY. In the most recent mission, I saw the same zone 3 different times. In one mission.
Not to meniton how cheap the boss fights in the game feel which are just new levels of bad. The customization in the game is godly though.

I invested a good amount of time (30 something hours) into Fallout 4 when it came out, but never finished it because the endgame, choose your faction part is garbage. I really prefer a shorter, more streamlined experience. It's just a lot easier for me to play something like Mass Effect.
Chrono Cross also contributed to my hatred of all things turn based.
I probably would have played Chrono Trigger when I wad younger for the art alone, love Toriyama. Missed out on it though and I'm definitely not playing it now.

I won't write some long dissertation defending my life decisions, but I love Chrono Cross. It's not a good sequel to Chrono Trigger, but it's a really cool game.
... I liked Chrono Cross as well. Eventhough the plot... well, there is no plot. But I have extremely fond memories of it, especially the battle system.

It's necessary to be able to have a magic system that transfers characters really easily since there's about 74 of them. It's functional.
When Chrono Trigger DS came out, I played through both games again. There's still a ton to like about Cross. The soundtrack is radical, it looks good, even though the frame rate dies when there's a lot on screen, and really important, the battles are quick.
I kind of hate Cross' battle system. I drifted away from the game halfway through, because every time I come back I'm stuck with a party that has Magus doing 2 points of damage all the time.

Man, I hope I'm strong enough to keep myself from upgrading everytime a new technology comes out. I plan on sticking with this TV for 10 years unless something with a similar picture quality but literally no input lag comes out.
Played an hour or so of I Am Setsuna. About what you'd expect from the trailers. Very old school feel, beautiful music, and a battle system very reminiscent of Chrono Trigger. A couple of drawbacks are that I can't go back into the menu and re-read the in-game instructions which is a bummer because I misread what to do to make Momentum/Singleton events happen (hit Square just before an attack, thanks internet). Also, for whatever reason, some of the UI elements are very low-res and pixelated, like they forgot to upload a higher detail version or something.

ehh in a year the 1080 will be pretty close to it's current value, the TI will come in at a higher MSRP.

Kinda sucks. I've been trying to stick with all digital this generation because it's how I prefer it. I like having it when I wake up since I work mid day shifts and that lets me play the game in the morning.

Just realized I've completely missed out on playing Dark Souls 3 because I was traveling when it was released.
What are people's thoughts on it at this point? I really enjoyed the first game but never finished the second because I thought the bosses weren't great and there were too many of them along with the world being disappointing. Where would you rank it in the series?
