Turbografx-16 games are hitting Wii U Virtual Console today. 2 of the games were Hudson, which means they got Konami to care enough to pay attention. Are Nintendo restoring VC to its former glory in anticipation of NX compatibility?
Been participating in #JRPGJuly thing on twitter so I've only been playing those in my free time. About to finish up a Ys Seven playthrough on my Vita and then start Dragon Quest 5 on DS.
If I have time after that I'll probably go back to cleaning up the trophies in Persona 4 Golden.
I also bought Star Ocean 5 against my better judgement and it's awful so I dropped that after two days.
Haven't played this many single player games concurrently in a while. Having fun though. Trying to clear as many as I can before going back to Uni on the 22nd next month.
I finished this too recently.
I think I walked away liking it a bit more than you.(I liked Faris and chapter 7 and her message to undo her D-Mail crushed me)
but that's probably because the tropes it employs in the earlier chapters are a little less foreign to me. I pretty much got all the references and name changes. and I'm just fascinated by the concept of time travel so I was pretty pleased with the lengths the series went to to establish the basis of its time travel and to keep the details and rules straight. Even if it wasn't always successful.
Also will be picking up the sequel when it drops. I heard that deals with Artificial Intelligence which I'm even more interested in. I'm also kind of hoping others in the series are brought over as well eventually, specifically Robotics;Notes.

By livefromkyoto Go To PostI platinumed Steins;Gate. The first half of that game was pretty dumb, but from chapter 6 onward (except chapter 7, that was mostly pretty dumb too) the story was pretty damn good and shockingly dark at times like when he's stuck in the 2 day time loop and lets Daru die and starts contemplating raping the female characters because they're all just puppets of causality. I'm not sure I'm on board with people who say it's the greatest visual novel of all time - if Telltale games count I generally prefer their tone - and the writing was often didactic and dragged on a bit. But I definitely get why it's something that people could fall in love with. I'll check out the sequel when it inevitably goes on sale. (Kinda got burned buying this game day one, it was 50% off on PSN within 8 months).

I don't think it's that I couldn't understand the name changes & references, or at least google enough to figure some of them out, it's that I'm not nearly otaku enough to enjoy it. I liked Faris and the conclusion of that chapter too, I just thought the silly Yugioh stuff leading up to it was kinda lame. I'm not sure I agree they kept the rules of time travel straight, particularly the true ending seemed to fudge the rules of how the attractor fields worked to such an extent that it call everything else into question. But I wasn't going to get too strict about stuff like that when the whole premise of how he was able to time travel in the first place was ridiculous. But what stands out in the end was how emotionally affecting it managed to be. Luka and Suzuha's endings were soul-rending.

Well that's what I was trying to say lol.
Like I laughed every time they said "Daga kotowaru". That's how far gone I am.
and yeah the true end fudged a lot of things to get to the happy ending, even the suggestion that everyone has reading steiner doesn't make any sense because everyone but Okabe clearly has their memories rewritten to line up with causality lol
another thing that didn't make any sense to me was howdeleting the original D-Mail from SERN's database in the present, changed the past.
but those nitpicks aside I really enjoyed it. It stretched the concept to go a lot of interesting places emotionally, and that's what's most memorable about it to me.
I just wish in the end it could have committed a little more to the loneliness of the time traveler.

That, and the notion that it was his subjective observation that determined whether Kurisu had to die. If it was as specific as observing a certain set of circumstances to satisfy causality, why was the universe continually offing Mayuri in so many varied ways and locations? I didn't have a problem with the Reading Steiner thing because they explained it as different people having the ability to different degrees. He's obviously special with the amount he can remember without needing to have any kind of prodding like the other characters do. I thought it was in interesting way to explain the daydreams, deja vu and odd impressions people sometimes have of having done things they couldn't have done, or strong visions of different outcomes for past events.

That I actually think made a lot of sense and was the most interesting aspect of the game's concept of time and causality. I think from certain details about the future we get through Suzuha and Nae, we can piece together certain things beyond the scope of the game that are set in stone in both major attractor fields (Like Daru and Okabe forming a resistance and building a time machine, Suzuha being the traveler and Okabe dying in 16 years). I think it's reasonable to imagine that Mayuri's death at that time had a direct causal effect on the actions of the other characters in the future of Attractor Field B the same way Kurisu's did in Attractor Field A, which is probably why the universe needed her to die.
Okabe just didn't have the context to understand that, or the means really to do anything about it. The only reason he could influence Kurisu's is because the D-Mail his future self sent him enabled him to do that. (D-mails for some reason can influence causality in ways that can't be accomplished with the Time Leap machine and physical time machine) and that his observation of Kurisu's death is literally the catalyst of everything in every Timeline/Attractor Field we see in the game.

I understand that, it just seemed like a copout to me for the convenient ending. If everyone has the potential to remember then Okabe is the worst off since he doesn't have the capability to recover the memories created by the rewrites in causality. That was the most tragic thing about the Faris ending.
Clearly Okabe's is different since his ability is the catalyst through which history is shaped in all three Attractor Field's lol. Saying everyone has it in the end is just ehhhhhhhhhhh to me. It's the most visual novel esque thing in this particular visual novel.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostHein's design is kinda dull, but his move set is amazing.
I'm actually really digging Hein. Reminds me of Heidern from 98 and Oswald from 11
if they add the TMNT games and Blades of Steel I'm selling all of my consoles and PC and just buying a NES mini

But then don't the same rules need to apply? Future Okabe has witnessed Mayuri's death, influencing his actions. The circumstances of her death changing should change divergence as well.

They still haven't totally figured out how to make the Prometheans fun to fight, although they are better than in Halo 4. (Really high bar I'm setting there.)
They've definitely fallen asleep on singleplayer. They should look at doing something original on that end ala Metroid Prime or at least try to expand what they did with ODST on a larger scale.
And agree with rodeo...was legit sprinting through those end sections. Did anyone even playtest that lame ass shit?
And agree with rodeo...was legit sprinting through those end sections. Did anyone even playtest that lame ass shit?
I've taken a couple of days away from the game, but going to go back and do some stuff on Legendary to clean up some achievements. I thought the Promethean guns were pretty damn good on SP, unlike MP (other than the Promethean Rifle). Was shocked at how little Chief was in it, and the media blitz that they put on about Locke v Chief was pretty far left to what was in the game.
Still haven't re activated my PS+, and probably won't until Madden hits for the league I'm in. Threw the X1 on the TV and hooked everything up to it, and have been exclusively gaming on it since. Between EA Access and other stuff, it says I got about 100 games on the system, and the online ecosystem feels better than PSN. Got about 1.5TB of free space remaining on my 3TB HDD.
So annoying that they gimped it power wise, but whatever. Scorpio pls.
What do you mainly play? Warzone?

By Smokey Go To PostWhat do you mainly play? Warzone?Yeah, I do play some arena still but my skills just arent what they used to be there. For some reason Warzone is much better for me, still average 42 kills per game there.
I still roll Arena, even though a lot of the maps are real same-y in the playlists that I play the most (Swat, Slayer, Arena).
By livefromkyoto Go To PostBut then don't the same rules need to apply? Future Okabe has witnessed Mayuri's death, influencing his actions. The circumstances of her death changing should change divergence as well.
Yes but those circumstances are changed by his own intervention with Time Leap, so maybe causality takes his experiences from other timelines into consideration. After all the game ends with Okabe creating a stable timeloop for his past self to witness Kurisu's deathand as a result experience the entire game again to get to the point he's at now. So to reach "Steins Gate" Okabe's experiences in both Attractor Field timelines was necessary.
It could also mean that those minute changes don't really mean much. After all Nae still held a grudge against Okabe and had already tortured and killed him in the future even when he wasn't present during her father's suicide.

Stopped in GameStop for the first time in months to trade shit in. This particular GS is like he seize of two stores and is unique. Walk in and they havea huge PSVR demo station, and a VIVE demo station on the other side (store is pretty unique as I mentioned).
I strap up and try PSVR, and the rep put BattleZone on. Wanted to try EVE but I didn't wanna be that guy so whatever. My first impression was it wasn't as "sharp" as I was expecting. Maybe I didn't have it on right I dunno. Game gets going and it's nothing special, but even in BZ I felt like I was in the game. The headset itself was comfortable and I didn't feel it weigh on my head or anything.
Frame rate was fine, and after I got used to it it was pretty interesting. Didn't feel nauseous. Really wanna try EVE as I think that's the killer app for it, but I can see it taking off. It's hard to explain unless you try it. I pre ordered mineway back, but I'll probably keep it after this session. Considering I didn't even know BZ was on VR and it wasn't anything special, yet I still felt there I think is a good sign.
I can say for sure tho that I'm nope af on any kind of horror game.
