Because marketing. Remember how they never showed Dragon Age: Origins as a regular ass RPG and always showed it as some BLOOD AND GUTS AND MARILYN MANSON up until launch

Really good feature on LH, quite funny at times. The story of a real molyneux run studio

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-05-12-lionhead-the-inside-story
"At E3 2003, Peter Molyneux did a press interview about Fable. In it he announced multiplayer for the game. Developers back at Guildford watched in horror. No-one had heard anything about multiplayer. One engineer, we were told, was close to tears. When Molyneux returned, he faced the full wrath of a stressed and exhausted development team. The Carters raised their flame shields. Don't worry, they said. We'll work it out."
Lionhead received death threats because it had a gay character and two of the leading heroes were black. One message read: "I can't believe you would put a faggot in the game." A German magazine wrote a damning preview of Fable in which it accused Peter Molyneux of being "the man who thinks he's god", and called McCormack and other artists satanists. Mums from the Bible belt would write to the studio complaining that their eight-year-old had been exposed to homosexuality.
"We were like, the game's not for eight-year-olds," John McCormack says. "It's a mature-rated game. So it's not really our problem. It's yours. And, I hope you rot in hell.
"With Fable 2 we were like, right, gay marriage, lesbianism, fuck you. We revelled in it."
Molyneux's other directive: Fable 2 must have a dog. And that dog must die.
"We had a meeting," McCormack recalls. "We'd not seen him in weeks because he had other things on. He opened the door, walked in and goes, the hero has a dog, and it dies. And then he left and we didn't see him again for another month. We were like, what the fuck? That was it. That was the direction."
Molyneux didn't get involved in The Movies a great deal, as most of his focus, developers say, was on Black & White 2 and Fable. "We used to say they drew the Eye of Sauron away from us," Jon Askew, who worked on The Movies, says. "The team felt it was better while he was distracted with other things."
"We had a 60 man team on The Movies, and there were people on the team who were running out of work," says Stuart Whyte, who worked on the game before managing the studio in its latter years.
"They didn't know what they were meant to be doing next. It was literally being made up as we went along. I likened it at the time to that bit in Wallace and Gromit when they're on the train and they're laying down the train tracks ahead of the train. That was production desperately trying to give the team work to do. A team sitting around doing nothing isn't exactly a good thing for getting a game out. It was a crazy place."
"Black & White 2 was a total mess," one person who worked on the game said. "We had a dev manager who came from British Rail, and he lasted three weeks. The guy absolutely shat himself when he joined. The pace of change was just so much compared to what he was used to. It can be very seat of your pants, and certainly at that time it really was."
"Everyone was making it up as they went along," Adam Langridge, who worked on Black & White 2 as a programmer, says. This sounds negative, but Adam remembers Lionhead's relaxed attitude to game creation fondly.
"If there was an area you wanted to work on, you just had to ask, or own it. Everything was there for the taking, creatively, which was brilliant.
The PC version was supposed to show the potential of DirectX 12, too. Fable Legends was a graphical showcase, but should it have been? "They constantly wanted to use Legends as a demo for something new," one source says.
"Legends should have been dirt cheap to produce, that's the whole point of a free-to-play game. If people don't like the game, you take a small cut. If they do, you build more of what the people want. Legends cost a large amount of money, and was delayed countless times so we could show off some other piece of Microsoft tech."
How much money? One high-ranking Lionhead source says $75m was spent on Fable Legends - a gargantuan amount for a free-to-play game.
"The aim with free-to-play games it to get something out early and iterate on that and build up the community and build up your userbase," said a source.

That person playing is just bad in general.
I get that some people are going to struggle with shooters, but damn. If you're trying to jump the gun and show off the game, then get somebody that can play it. lol

also seeing a lot of people hopping on the bandwagon--see a few new listings all eyeing that 500 baseline
I need 1080 benches...back to possibly waiting for titan pascal
Really good to hear
For anyone worried about levels being linear, don't worry. I'm on the 3rd level and there are keycards galore and plenty of circular and vertical level design. The feeling of exploring and unraveling a level are strong.

tbh I don't believe the 20% mark. Nvidia hasn't shown a history of bringing that sort of value to the table

Games journalists being bad at playing games never stops being hilarious. Your job is half hobby.
Also, Peter Molyneux is crazy.
I'm not one of those people who think games journalists have to be particularly good at games. But if you're going to cover them, you should be better than that Doom player, frankly. If you're absolutely dogshit at the genre, how are you supposed to represent it properly?
I suspect some of them are writers who just need the work and don't have a real interest in games, but they can easily crank out a bunch of essays. That video looks like it was being played by someone who's never held a controller before. There's no real justification for that if you're covering games as a career.

But if you're going to cover them, you should be better than that Doom player, frankly. If you're absolutely dogshit at the genre, how are you supposed to represent it properly? This is why reviews don't matter and I'm not sure why people even acknowledge them. Most recently you had Ashes of the Singularity getting an absolutely shameful review from GameSpot where the reviewer couldn't be bothered to actually learn the game and wrote a review based on pretty much nothing since almost everything was factually incorrect.
In the era of YouTube and Twitch, I'm not sure why anyone cares about these traditional sites. From GTA IV being Oscar-worthy to Mass Effect 3's ending being a masterpiece, they're nothing more than free marketing.
By DY_nasty Go To PostThose same people have the nerve to tell others that killer instinct is a good fighting gamebecause it is unless we're talking about the 90s version.
It's also got all that great single player content that you and everyone else complained SF V didn't have. So what are we supposed to judge fighting games on? Gameplay doesn't seem to matter and neither does content.
By data Go To PostI mean, it's no Naruto
whew
I can't remember the last review I've read tbh. Don't even really do Let's Plays. If something looks interesting I'll mark it down.

By Smokey Go To PostPlayed on a plasma for multiple days last week. Phenomenal.damn. that's a nice performance bump.
color me intrigued.
By blackace Go To Postyou besides having more money than God?
aren't they losing money from gaming? OG Xbox was a failure. 360 started off great, fizzled out towards the end when people realized Microsoft only cared about their holy trinity. The complete fuck up that handed Sony this gen. $100 million into developing a worse controller. There's Xbox Live sure, but that alone cant be worth it.
These dudes spent $75million on a free to play game. The whole point of a free to play game is to be some cheap addictive widely accessible game that can generate money through IAPs. It's not supposed to be Uncharted 4. They've been in this industry for 15 years and still clearly have no idea what they're doing outside of XBL. They relied way too much on their Trinity + Gears, Fable was selling 10 million like they expected so they canned that. Spent who knows how much money to acquire Gears, a franchise in decline.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostStill don't believe those benchesIf those benches are remotely similar to in-game performance, I may finally upgrade from my 670 once the 1070 comes out.
bought DOOM and Stellaris for $75 from GMG
can use could code SPACE25 for 25% off if interested
I thought it was just for Stellaris, but when I added DOOM, it took it off the entire order.

By Smokey Go To PostMaking games is actually hard
Not to mention expensive. Making games at any level is high risk for low reward relative to other entertainment industries
So it's kind of hilarious to list the studios making the absolute most money in the game right now, and not necessarily off of their software sales, and going WHY CAN'T EVERYONE ELSE BE LIKE THEM
