If the console market dies, it won't be moving to PCs unless something similar to SteamBoxes proves to be viable.
And your expecting the average 10-17 year old to ask mommy for another $400 for this new / shiny better console that they just got at most at most 2.5 years ago? And for said parents to be like "cool"
Nah
The demo for this new PS is the same as the folks who were primarily there since day 1. The hardcore. At least at first. If you're interested in the PS4+ or even know about it right now , chances are you are also interested in PSVR (another $400).

LOL yea I am because we've been doing it for decades! And it works!
New Jordans get released every year and kids keep getting them.
New phones. New TVs. New clothes. New everything.

Dropping the price of the OGPS4 and having a VR bundle with the new machine around double the price of the msrp of the current hardware is key.
Are we assuming that VR is going to be exclusive to this new hardware? Because I am...

This iterative console practice has only been done a few times in the past (Sega CD and 32x), and is a new concept for modern systems. Nothing or very little of "weve been doing it for decades" applies here. This is new territory.
The demo is the hardcore as usual until a few years out and the casuals jump on.
Casuals are not interested in a new $400 box nor a $400 VR set. They don't even know these things exist.
The same folks that know about these things, would probably be interested in taking a look at PC. Just read the other site and youll see plenty of these types of posts.

Oh okay, well that's interesting and kind of alarming. We just need to see this thing already. New hardware always exciting.
Sega CD and 32x aren't even comparable, at all. Both were peripherals and shitty to market. Sega CD on its own was $299 in 1992. You're not thinking phones and TVs and shoes and GPUs.
Casuals are interested in whatever is new and better than the prior thing. You're arguing against some serious consumer trends here when it comes to electronics.
And again, the key here: PS4 OG drops to $249-299, PS4K at $399. Status quo pricing and opening up the market for those that haven't joined yet.

As soon as something meaningful comes along and is vastly superior on PS4K, that's when shit changes.
In the console space man. The only time something has been attempted in the past was Sega CD/32x is all im saying. The people that constantly refresh their GPU aren't casuals. Somebody that constantly gets a high end new TV isn't a casual.
And what does the OG PS4 dropping in price have to do with the new box? They will be going after two different audiences. It still doesn't address those that have been down since day 1, and now you're asking them to figuratively drop another $400 min.
Casuals are interested in mobile and F2p. They are not interested another $400 box tethered to a TV.

Because you'll still be able to play the same games on both consoles, just like you would on the PC. And the PS4K won't be a peripheral but an alternative. Those that don't care about the power upgrade will have the OG PS4 right there for a cheaper price. You're arguing like they'd be two completely independent platforms. They're not.
I can use Facebook and Twitter just the same on an iPhone SE as I can on an iPhone 6S.

I mean, sure? That's every popular electronics consumer product of all time. I can't walk into Apple today and buy a brand new iPhone 5S if for some absurd reason I wanted to.
I mean, I basically described everyone on this site. I built my first PC at 13, so it's not like I'm not including myself in that comment :P

I can't take you seriously without an essay about the way SLAENT feels about VR
Get to it
Did you see that lol

Calm your tits, I was kidding around. At least I didn't make assumptions about entire consumer demographics and this idea that they can all build PCs.
By Hitch Go To PostMassive apparently looking into doing gear-checks for Dark Zone segregationI don't even know where they start when it comes to balancing end game. Just the idea if a second dz is a huge undertaking - and it doesn't solve the issue either
Might be necessary to keep the game alive tbh, there can be a huge difference between 2 level 30 players. The kind of difference that makes one of them essentially invincible in a fight, and the other go down in a second or two.

They were right about millenials
They could just have an emote of various ranges appear over the head of players when you highlight them with your reticle ranging from like a baby (weak) to a demon (2stronk) .
Make it so if you go rogue on players of a certain level below you there could be x chance of being fined an equipped loot. And if your combined party is x level below anothers then you are incentivized to go rogue by the potential of getting big XP or phoenix credits or something.
There's a way to encourage and discourage play without straight up gating players off.

That issue is its own separate headache. Making the penalties even more extreme? May as well just remove it altogether. The price is ridiculously steep as it is.

They don't even know what they want, let alone how to implement it.
By DY_nasty Go To PostI don't even know where they start when it comes to balancing end game. Just the idea if a second dz is a huge undertaking - and it doesn't solve the issue eitherIt doesn't have to be a second DZ, just make the gear level another attribute that gets checked when you enter it. Right now, the only filter is overall Level, and it's letting everyone into the same instance at the level cap, even though a farmed level 30 is essentially level 35 or something by comparison.
Obviously they'd have to calculate gear level by crunching your inventory numbers, as well as the gear that is actually equipped.
It's not like World of Warcraft hadn't solved this problem a decade ago. Why not throw a switch that lets the player choose whether or not to participate in PvP? They can't kill the opposing player, the opposing player can't kill them.

DZ with PVP flags may as well be a patrol in Destiny
wait reilo, you don't have a 1900 word post about why vr is the future and you're a poor/loser/failure in life if you dont like it?

The time is not right for VR and gaming, for anyone but real enthusiasts right now. But man, I find VR exciting like nothing else people have called gimmicks over the years. Kinect, motion controls and all that shit did nothing to me, but trying even simple VR tech demos had me sold.

If a new console locks the old user out of this gen half-way through it we are in brand new territory...
my interest in VR is also pretty much 0.
i bought the Rift thingy whatever it's called just out of curiousity and i tried it for like 20 min and threw it somewhere. I'm sure you can do neat stuff with it but it's years away.

i wouldn't go that far, it's harmless and i don't think it's weird but i just don't get it and it seems so widespread looking at all the controversies about sexy poses and shit, sometimes i feel like i'm the only one who doesn't care one bit about it.

That's good to hear. I want to play it. But the always online and the episodic form, really did turn me off. Absolutions was an alright game, but when I was looking for another hitman game, this does seem to fix it.
Will wait until it's all released, by then a sale should be right around the corner too.
The more I think about it, the further ahead Life Is Strange goes as number 1 in my GotY2015 ranking
