That's the problem.. that genre isn't exactly popping..
Heard good things about Dex but have not picked it up myself yet...

KotOR and the other Star Wars games qualify, I guess.
Searched through the Steam store. "Rebel Galaxy" and "E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy" caught my eye as games with good reviews that probably few people have played.

KOTORs b10.
By Kibner Go To PostOh, derp. I forgot about the System Shock series for Adam. They are seriously old, though.
Yeah, the grafx whore in me makes it kinda hard to go back that far.
Yeah, I was trying to recommend other games similar to Mass Effect and those were the only ones I could remember or find on the Steam store in a search.

Assumed it'd be like $10-15 at this point

BF1 is good fun. They really need that first expansion to hit tho with new maps. I've put somewhere around 20 hrs into it in the last week or whatever, and lack of maps is apparent.
By DY_nasty Go To Posthow is arkI posted about it a couple weeks ago. In general, it is fun but performance is very unoptimized. It consistently gets updates, so things should improve in the future.
Specifically, if you like the PvP aspect, you will need to join a Tribe/Guild in order to make any progress. Harvesting, building, and taming will take forever by yourself.
If you don't like the PvP aspect of it, you would be better off playing single player or on a server where the settings are how you like them. I host a dedicated server on my machine for my friends and sped up harvesting 2x and taming 10x (because some beasties required like 500 minutes to tame and we don't have time for that as a small group).
Bottom line, it is pretty much your standard survival buildy game, but with dinos. If that strikes your fancy, it is worth picking up.

By Adam Blade Go To PostHm? Wat disIt'll consume your life if you get into it
You basically take control of a country/empire's ruler and the goal is to expand across the continent through invasion, marriage, scheming, spying, blackmail etc. Watched the Idle Thumbs' stream of Crusader Kings II (Ragnar RIP) and its very interesting, but way too deep for me. You can seemingly somewhat blunder your way through it (there's a set number of decades/centuries the game encompasses) but there is a lot to it in terms of keeping track of your stats, finances, military power, keeping your populace satisfied and under control and so on.
Not sure if you have to have it based on Europe or not.

Oh. Bleh, not my kind of game then. I dislike micromanaging...
By Adam Blade Go To PostHm? Wat disIt's a crazy and deep game with tons of emergent gameplay. However, a graphic showcase it is not. With the exception of topographical maps showing the various states of all the empires and such, the game could be played using the GUI of a spreadsheet.
If you like 4x games or the idea of a real-time Civilization game, it's worth a look. It's the type of game with enough depth and replayability that it can last you years as your sole game.
It's not for me, though. I played it a couple times with friends but didn't get hooked. However, I do like watching other people play and giving them backseat advice.
By Adam Blade Go To PostOh. Bleh, not my kind of game then. I dislike micromanaging…It's worth reading some of the crazy stories people have had.
I have this tradition of marrying women with very high intrigue to function as spymasters. This has the additional advantage of having someone safeguard my heir if he isn't of age when I bite the dust and I use her to train my 2nd born daughter and beyond.
Well, this backfired somewhat when I had four sons and two daughters, the youngest daughter decided to put her training to good use and murder her way through the four people ahead of her (oldest son died of disease) and then kill me, all of this without getting caught. Of course I'm not sure she killed all of my other children and this is the reason I could do very little as my children died left and right.
I once had a homosexual relationship with the pope and contracted syphilis and died 6 years later.
Started as Count Robert of Maine. Had a son, died, played as kid, named after his grandfather William the Bastard. Grandpa becomes King. Grandpa is my heir. Grandpa also has claim on my title since he was second in line to inherit. Grandpa throws party, imprisons me for titles and executes me. I am now William the Bastard.
I sent one of my favorite sons (who saved me from a huge bear) to the Varangian Guard, thinking he'd win fame, fortune, and a bit of Martial. He came back to me…blinded, castrated, and with almost nothing to his name. I immediately swore revenge.
I had his Captain murdered with 6 different plots; he ended up dying due to a poisonous snake bite as his carriage drove off a cliff (simultaneous successes) after noticing the manure bomb planted for him. Then I assassinated the young Byzantine Emperor's entire line of siblings - his father I'd apparently had murdered earlier - and for good measure I finished off his mother, passing his crown to his distant uncle. One of his kinsman tried having me killed, but my guards saved me and my spymaster retaliated swiftly; the kinsman died under suspicious circumstances.
I kept my son comfortable for the rest of his days, making him my steward and giving him gifts until he died of complications from his blinding. Rest in peace, Kettil Falkisson af Munsö.
I can't get enough of these stories:
Having conquered the British Isles and forming the empire of Britannia, I spend my twilight years being a good Christian and tutoring my grandchildren to be suitable heirs. One day I received a letter from the pope that wished to wed one of my courtiers. Clearly the pope had some plot in mind involving women to take care of those pesky Muslims in Sicily, so I sent over that beautiful courtier to "wed" the pope. A week letter, I received another letter that stated the pope wished to wed another of my courtier. I accepted. I have no need of these women in my court in the first place.
For the next several months the pope continued to ask me for women to "wed" him. I finally drew the line when the bastard wanted to marry my beautiful sixteen-year-old daughter. So I made one of my sons, a bishop, the antipope and took over Rome. When I arrived in Rome with my army, I found many of the women that I allowed to "wed" the pope in his court. To my embarrassment, for the past year I had inadvertently helped the pope build a harem…
By Kibner Go To PostIt's worth reading some of the crazy stories people have had.The Idle Thumbs playthrough I mentioned earlier was crazy
They gave some servant called Ragnar a role in attempting to overthrow the leaders of another country, and he got drunk and accidentally revealed the plot. They throw Ragnar in prison for years (after discussing whether to exceute him or not), the ruler they're controlling dies, son takes over, Ragnar eventually gets released and ends up being the main advisor to the throne. Think they even end up marrying Ragnar's daughter, and he dies peacefully in his old age. What a life.
(It went something like that anyway)

Goh Hamazaki was bad as fuck in Y3. It's such a shame that the shitty idol actor boy was the main villain and not him. He deserved all the spotlight but he got that rub at the end.

Dudes, RE7 is actually my first RE game and I'm having a real good time. I always wanted to really get into a RE game but I found them a little tough to crack the last time I tried (which admittedly was a long loooong time ago).
After this one I'm determined to play another one so I decided to get the REmakeHD on PC. I gave it a quick sample just to see what it was like and it's surprisingly comfortable coming from 7. Feels familiar.
First thing I do on all my DS4 controllers is replace the sticks with some aluminum ones from ebay. It's not all that hard even for a novice like me. The sticks are cheap and you can even buy some XB1 sticks for your PS4 controller.

By DY_nasty Go To Postthis sounds amazing lollike Football Manager (and Bethesda games to some extent) all of them SOUND amazing and make for good stories but in reality you're just fucking around with menus most of the time innit -_-
Bethesda games are nowhere near as emergent* as they try to trick you into believing imo. Kill or antagonise certain people, quest failed. Everything has to be done in an order authored by the devs, even if there are a lot of those options.
*not sure if I'm using that the right way
