Scalebound looked like fucking garbage Everytime they presented it. Not a single aspect looked good or fun.
Surprised it got greenlit in the first place.

It's not a complex thought at all, you just can't express yourself correctly in English.
Which is really weird considering you're part of the English boys good taste club.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postyou can blame mattrick for that–its crazy how bad he screwed the positive things MS has going with the 360Yep. Ever since Peter Moore left them, they've been going downhill in terms of game output. He knew how to offer a broad portofolio.

By rodeoclown Go To PostI don't know why Microsoft would get all the blame for Scalebound laid at their feet. How ridiculous. They cancelled a game that wasn't hitting milestones and didn't look good.We don't have the full picture, so it's hard to argue for one side or another. Just a big blow in MS lineup.
By data Go To PostDoubt we'll see another xbox next generation, whatever that is.Yeah it's suprising they're even making Scorpio at this point. They're slowly transitioning into games as service model and there's barely any SP game on the horizon.
I was actually hopeful of the Scorpio being the leap forward that they could gain ground with but now it's starting to look like a lost cause.
Yakuza 2 was AMAZING. Like, game of the forever amazing.
I spent all day getting sucked into Phantasy Star II on Vita. I've been trying to finish this game for years across different versions on GBASP, PS3, iPad etc., but it gets so grindy and the dungeons are so fucking hard (don't even bother without maps) that I got distracted & gave up every time. But something about it keeps calling me back, it's the only video game on my bucket list.
I'm playing in the PSP Genesis Collection (which weirdly isn't even possible to get onto Vita unless you transfer it via PS3) & I'm happy to say, aside from some wobbly sound emulation this is by FAR the best way to play it I've come across. The Vita controls are perfect for it, you can easily save anywhere, it has a fantastic filter and looks absolutely heavenly on the OLED. I've already gotten further than I have on any previous attempt and I'm honestly enjoying the shit out of it right now.
Best gaming move I made in 2007.
I bailed on those soulless corporate bastards after it came out they knew about red ring all along and shipped anyway. I lost four 360s. FOUR. I had an irrational hate-on for Sony after they murdered the Dreamcast in cold blood (RIP), but MS found a way to make them seem sympathetic, and somehow kept getting worse over time.

By Ciaran Go To Postlol seeing that leaked gameplay footage of Phantom Dust
no wonder they decided to cut their losses
considering the company was given 5 million to make a multiplayer game, after which microsoft came in and constantly shifted content goalposts without ever increasing their budget, i'm not surprised.
plus that hilarious CGI trailer that the developers didn't even know about until they saw it at E3.
By rodeoclown Go To PostI don't know why Microsoft would get all the blame for Scalebound laid at their feet. How ridiculous. They cancelled a game that wasn't hitting milestones and didn't look good.
It's really not ridiculous. Xbox management can be an incredible soufflé of evil and incompetence.
They completely fucked over the Phantom Dust developers, signing a contract and agreeing on a $5 million budget with an agreement for a multiplayer only game. Then a week later they came back and demanded the devs also provide an entire single player campaign. Then they showed the trailer at E3 - which the devs not only had nothing to do with, they didn't even know it existed until it was shown. Then MS' creative director told the public it was a 30 hour jrpg. Somehow the dev wasn't able to live up to MS' expectations with their $5 million budget and folded.
So now we have Kamiya, who's never failed to deliver in his life. And he's got this game that started as a smaller scale Wii project starring a female character but now it's suddenly got the most corporately-mandated focus-grouped protagonist imaginable. Like, to the point where it's like somebody said "you know what? Fuck it. Just put the focus group in the game:"
And the game's looking like it just might have had an exec show up one day and announce that it has to be open world. And have co-op multiplayer all the time. So it runs poorly, something his games never, ever do. The game's axed. And Kamiya, a hardcore game industry lifer, apparently suddenly walks away from work citing mental health issues.
So maybe Platinum's A-team fucked up for the first time ever. But I'd bet instead that stories come out about executive shuffles and corporate interference setting the project adrift. I doubt that any of the first parties are run by chill laid back people, but MS has a ruthless corporate culture (and this goes beyond the Entertainment & Devices division Xbox falls under) that's something else.

"The original plan was for Darkside to finish the vertical slice by December, but after some struggles, they convinced Microsoft to extend the deadline to January. One particularly strange moment for Darkside happened around then, when Microsoft’s Ken Lobb said on a podcast that Phantom Dust would be “about a 30-hour JRPG.” The developers were baffled. That was never part of their plan. “Nobody knew he was gonna say that,” said one Darkside staffer. “We were told by people at Microsoft that Ken just does things like that.” "
How does MS come off as the bad guy when the game clearly looked like shit. For MS to cancel a major exclusive like that Platinum was fuking up.
By Smokey Go To PostHow does MS come off as the bad guy when the game clearly looked like shit. For MS to cancel a major exclusive like that Platinum was fuking up.
The game looked like shit, but don't be surprised if MS had a huge part in this. It's well documented how badly they time after time mishandle development and whole studios.
Who don't remember the great choice of forcing Lionhead to become a Fable only developer, then changing the genre to F2P shit that Lionhead were not comfortable with at all, and spending $75m on that shit... Just to cancel it just when it was about to finally be done. Basically forcing a studio to make a game they never wanted to, and had no experience in, surprisingly made them fail. I've no doubt lots of shitty changes were demanded at random by MS when it came to Scalebound too.
It truly did look like hot trash though. I'm sure both can be blamed. But MS have a long history of this, just look at that article on Phantom Dust also. Absolutely hilarious.
Looks like they had milestones that were incredible hard to achieve, withhold the pay and other shitty practices...
The outlook on the future of the brand isn't looking to good.
When someone like Shinobi, who is someone that's always rather positive and knows far more than most of us, paints a pretty dark picture.

What’s the development status on Kingdom Hearts III?
“The production process is different than what we’ve had up until now, so I can’t just give you a general idea, but I can say that there are worlds that still remain untouched. We’ve advanced on the production of worlds that have yet to be announced, so we can’t show them for now. As far as development status goes, there’s still a ways to go.”

Remember when they sent legendary developer & $375 million acquisition Rare to avatar & Kinect jail?
ms always saw vidjagames as a means to an end to that 2000s living room set top box dominance (lololol), it's no surprise they'd have little patience for funding shit when they've got more plentiful revenue streams elsewhere
Why're we even focusing on these smaller studios? Do we forget that Bungie left them -- and in recent times (360 era) to go work on a new FPS independently? That's as big of a cash cow and job security as you can have. Ditto for Unreal deciding not to make Gears anymore, which is easily #2 in guaranteed hits under the Xbox umbrella. With all these other things coming out, it stands to reason that they didn't like working under MS either.
By data Go To Postyo but phil spencer wore them funny shirts so it's all sunshine and lollipopsI was just thinking about that #IbelieveinPhilSpencer nonsense they had going a while back.
Sad times for Platinum, hopefully NieR:Automata doesn't end up being their last game. Maybe Nintendo can just buy them out and turn them into a 1st party studio for them. Better than dying.

Bungie would rather be stuck developing Destiny for 10 years (under Activison of all publishers) than continue working with MS on Muster Ch33f.
They can't even get someone to develop a new PGR so we don't get a new Forza every year. And Bizarre was there to be picked up after being buttfucked by Activison badly.
Yea sorry, Epic.
Bungie's contract with Activision was such that they're not allowed to interfere at the content/gameplay level iirc, and I'm gonna guess they put that in from prior experience. MS has a culture of distrust at every level. And for Bungie to leave just to make another FPS?

But Capcom should let Kamiya make DMC 0 after the man got his heart broken. I don't want him to become a farmer like Hiroki Kato, who was the lead designer of God Hand and Vanquish.
Anyway, just finished Gears 4, great from start to finish, but the last act was hype. I like how they managed the ending too, you finish your set up missions, but want to go kill some more fucking locust really badly. Good stuff.

Here's a reverse development story from the ones out of MS we've had this week.
It's RIME. An indie game that was initially funded by MS, then dumped, then debuted on Sony's stage nearly four e3's ago, went nowhere for years, was dumped again before finding a new publisher last summer. Yay...?
Releases in May for $30.

Greatest mmo. Sad to see it finally go. Need to check and see if they ever finished the dedicated server installer so people could setup their own servers to keep playing.
King of Fighters 14 is pretty fun and deep. 6 more months until a game center release on the newest NESICA hardware.
I wonder what they will add onto the game in terms of characters and balance from now until then. I also wonder if they will choose to build on the current gameplay systems and story instead of going straight into King of Fighters 15.
Or if they do go into King of Fighters 15, build off of 14 and add onto EX/MAX instead of using a brand new combat system.

So far it's working perfectly, with only one scene having weird graphical glitches.
??? multiple jumps are in and short hops are still indispensable for spacing and starting strings.
Not to get your hopes up or anything but Vanessa is a pretty highly requested character for DLC alongside Rock Howard, Blue Mary, and Duck King. SNK seems to be interested in adding more DLC costumes and characters too since they're going to need to support the game for at least 2 more years with the upcoming arcade release this summer.
Too bad Rock Howard will never happen.
