Haven't they all been delayed already?
Easy decision for me which to play at least.

u right
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postwell I only started in the last week or so, just been doing every side quest, haven't even killed the griffin (First boss?) yet, just running to every question mark on the map that's available
Pro tip: Turn off the question marks unless you just want to clean out monster nests and power level for a bit. Thank me later.

Is this for immersion or just sanity reasons
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postanything yall recommend prioritizing in terms of leveling
i know quen and critical back damage (being able to block or take less damage from behind or something) was a must have in the witcher 2 along with rolling
I'm rolling a combat / alchemy build. The only sign I consistently use is Quen. Quen also increased VIT regeneration on top of the free hit. I found the other signs to be situationally useful at best.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostIs this for immersion or just sanity reasons
Both.
I've enjoyed the expansions more because there's less side quests in them and the story feels more connected than the main did for me. This is specifically because I can't leave a question mark unexplored. Valen isn't too bad considering the map also includes Novigrad, but Skellige is insanity. Greater than 50% of the question marks are out at sea and their all just smugglers caches to loot and sell for money. Your dinky little sail boat is constantly getting attacked at sea and it becomes a slog.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostIs this for immersion or just sanity reasons
Both. Mostly the latter tho.
I guess the question is how much is side quest grinding necessary to not being underleveled in the game
economy seems really aggressive so far as well--very expensive items with lots of items you need for potions and other crafting--seems to suggest side quest grindings as necessary for money

None. You can't overlevel as main story quests stop giving out exp as you level past them (5 levels or more). And the main quests give out the most exp by far
However, economy is super tight and it's unlikely you'll have ALL the best gear.

If you got any kind of a life you not knocking it out + expansions before that date

Thanks for letting me know I have no life, man lol
I'm almost done with it plus all the expansions and I've done this in December alone haha. That being said I had a week off, played almost nightly and don't go out due to a child so ... lol

Side quests are fun, often have some good loot and are worth it. The added question marks are tedious bullshit adder for completionists. There is some OK loot to be found though on some of those, but overall not worth it. None of the gear I'm currently wearing I bought though. I've crafted every piece and one piece I found. In the beginning I did buy gear from vendors, but that seemed like it was just to get you started and out there in the world map. You loot and find everything you need in the game including upgrades for your horse. The most important things to get from vendors are gwent cards and maps. Some vendors sell maps that lead you to plans that craft witcher set pieces. The most expensive crafts are your weapon upgrades that get slotted because you're constantly finding more to upgrade. You get your money back selling unneeded ones though.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostMan, Hearts of Stone was so so good
It really was. It was very story driven without much filler. I guess they can do that for an expansion though. Wine and Blood has been good so far. Toussaint is a beautiful map and quite the welcome change to the drab kinda bleak feeling Velen and Skellige had.
Wish Frogwares would just fucking stop these temple exploration bits
I wanna be a super sleuth, not some cunt who thinks The Witness was the best game of the year
Aside from that, I love these games even though they're shite in many ways. Capture the Victorian London that I crave far better than Assassins Creed did.

I keep hearing positive things. I might get it. Development hell had me shook
It's got some shitty PS2-era control quirks, the camera sucks some fat dick every so often and the framerate is about as steady as Vire's relationships.
But it's just so fucking good at being this little adventure, this story about a boy and a man-eating animal working together and building a bond that really tugs at you. The sense of progress throughout the game is subtle, but tangible enough that you know it's happening. From Trico recovering from injury, to getting a better understanding of your commands.
Some really fucking great vistas in this, too. Absolutely sensational scale, some reminders of Dark Souls in that you can see where you were 2 hours ago from whatever tiny perch Trico is sitting on.
Definitely in my top 5 for 2016. Really want to do another playthrough but hesitant due to the range of feels the game put me through.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostI guess the question is how much is side quest grinding necessary to not being underleveled in the gameIf you come across Witcher Gear (green background in the menu) at any of the ?'s they're worth pursuing. If you're decked out in full Witcher gear you get a decent bonus from attacks. Some are better than others but as long as they all match it's worth it using over the standard gear.

Minimal and subtle at times, but opening up more and more. The learning curve is there and you'll get a good sense of what to do, or how to handle Trico with each hour passing.
Really enjoyed that and certainly a great linear experience with people behind it, that really know what they're doing.
Compared to alot of those shitty open world games that felt all over the place, because they couldn't really set a decent speed and pull things together, this was a great experience.
And fuck me, it really hit all the feels in the right way. My gf was sitting at my desk and played Witcher 3 on the Monitor, she paused the game so many times to watch me and started crying once the ending was on.
that looks like a noob playing on the easiest difficulty while being told to push all the ability buttons at once

Did you check out Stellaris?
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostDid you check out Stellaris?I thought it was undercooked at release. There was a lot of hype for it because of the options available before starting but after that a lot of issues kinda crept toward the surface. I felt like Endless Space 1 was a better game (Endless Space 2 looks awesome but I ain't about that Early Access life anymore).
Might look into giving it another shot though.
By data Go To PostI have yet to see anything about Mass Effect 4 that looks inspiringI think a lot of that is because Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 had ridiculously good marketing and people aren't used to a ME dropping without it.

As far as grand strategy games are concerned, It's no CK2 or even EU4 just yet, but there's nothing on the market that does what it does.

just started witcher 3. why is this guy looking edgy as fuck and damn the camera is sensitive. wonder how the combat and movement/gameplay is. hopefully its better than the disappointing gameplay in uncharted 4.
I'm at the griffin quest now, does the combat get any better...? the whole premise of the game and setting isn't really catching on with me so far. I mean I like Game of Thrones so this should be something to like?

Yeah the combat is the worst thing about the Witcher 3...and I haven't finished the game because of that really :(
Man fuck then what do people even like about things like Witcher and Uncharted if the gameplay is shit? Looking pretty and the story?
I'll sit through and see if it gets better in a little later but just going around quest marker to quest marker is so time consuming and I haven't hit any stunning landmarks yet.
Like the only thing that I got through so far is Tomb Raider Definitive and partway through Rise because the platforming and shit is actually pretty fun and less restricting.

There are lots to like about the Witcher 3. But it seems like you probably don't care about any of them. It's not a game for you I guess. C'est la vie.
Although I have to say, you should at least get to Velen and finish the Bloody Baron quest line. If you finish that series of quests and it still doesn't grab you then you should drop it.

I like the story/characters. Tried to play Witcher numerous times and hated it for the gameplay, then for some reason I started liking the characters and I was able to overlook the gameplay.
Also ME: A looks garbage. Guess I ain't buying shit this year besides Nioh

The combat in the Witcher is kinda shallow, but the chance to kinda refine your character to your play style is pretty rad and semi makes up for the shallow combat. If you're not playing the game on hard you're doing it wrong too.
Yeah I found Witcher 3 combat to be relaxing more than anything else.
Settles into a nice rhythm with a few wrinkles thrown in when you fight different types of enemies. Ain't got time for games that antagonizes me anymore

Witcher 3 is very janky and clunky.
I'm convinced that Roach is the worst controlled method of transportation ever in a videogame.

Someone told me if I like Dragons Dogma I would like this so... I play until that Bloody Baron quest to see if the setting catches on to me but I realized that there seems so much investment needed to really get into the whole setting seeing as this game is apparently based off a book series and has two other games also. Speaking from going into this as a first installment, which I was told would be fine, I'm sitting here like okay what the hell do these things mean. Some of this archaic english throw me off too.
My problem with gameplay right now is that movement is so sensitive for some reason if that's the right word, when the game isn't like Bloodborne. Horse movement and combat is jank and what bothers me so much is that it requires me to traverse through long empty or dull areas to get to each marker or quest or objective. Going from quest to quest is so time consuming when you have to go cross country on your horse.
Witcher sense is helpful but the movement kind of sucks for it and looting drops from places is hella dumb because I see the loot prompt, press X. Gerald doesn't do shit and I have to go adjust the camera again and again just to go loot shit.
Combat just doesn't seem all that challenging or fun on hard and I don't know if magic actually gets better to make combat better.
There are a shit ton of things that they throw at you to "tutorial" and explain it got pretty overwhelming at first but not that bad. For all the "universal" praise is it coming from people already invested or from people new? As someone new I haven't really seen the appeal just yet.
My problem with Uncharted is the movement and stealth aren't really that great (the cathedral mission with all the stealth wasn't that fun, the platforming is jack, and the game as a whole can get excessively linear. The gunplay isn't amazing either. I got up to near the end of Chapter 9 and I didn't really feel too invested in the whole dudes are just dickheads who wanna have fun and are bored so lets go piss off a private military company and steal shit. Maybe the driving section is good? I don't know. Uncharted 4 hasn't really gripped me either.
If neither really clicks I will just drop both and go get rid of them for Metal Gear Solid 5 Definitive or actually try and start FFXV. I thought that the Episode Gladio DLC would be out by now but I guess not.

By DY_nasty Go To PostI don't think I've ever played a game more soulless than Kingdoms of Amalur.
So then is it overrated on nah?
Because it is on my wishlist and I could use less RPGs:
Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age Inquisition
Dragon's Dogma
Kingdoms of Amalur
Divinity: Original Sin
Pillars of Eternity
Tyranny
Shadowrun games
Witcher 3 expansions
Dark Souls 1-3
I feel like if this was all I played this year I still wouldn't finish.
