Resident Evil 5 was the last time I've played an "online" game with an IRL friend. I asked him to play as Sheva so I could look at her, lol. Was still in shock that black women were playable characters. That was from the Rochelle L4D era (which I was never able to finish because no friends).
I enjoyed RE4. Was a wedding gift from my wife...that's how long ago that game came out. Have not bothered with the HD version because it does not do anything different, unlike REmake. I did not even bother with RE6 because 5 had already jumped the shark. I wanted a return to the old school RE, but by the time the revelations games had come around, I had grown out of the genre.
I tried Spelunky earlier, but I just could not get into it.

Spelunky doesn't click immediately, but when it does... those hooks go deep.
It's in my all-time top 10 for sure.

By Retro Go To PostRE4 still worksI need my games to not control like shit. The same reason I don't like RE4's controls (despite me liking everything else about the game tbh) are the same reasons why I hate God Hand. I know there's a fun game in there somewhere, but if I don't like the controls, I'm not gonna like the game period.
Unless you're the kind of person who needs all your video games to play the exact same way.
I don't think it controls like shit though. The controls are responsive and do exactly what you tell them with the proper inputs.
If you don't like them that's fine, but let's not call everything that doesn't conform to the same modern standard "controlling like shit".
It's like people that complain about joystick motions in fighting games. Just because you can't adapt to or comprehend them, doesn't make it bad design.

I wouldn't call them shit controls. Nothing is broken about the interaction between player and character and nothing takes advantage of the lack of "modern" mechanics (the tracking isn't crazy, open areas, etc...): it's balanced. To each their own.
The Wii version controls the best, but the design breaks down. The game wasn't created with that level of movement in mind.
The defense for tank controls has always been on shaky ground though. Lol. I don't think I've ever read a good argument for them.

Tank controls are kinda justifiable in games where the fixed camera angle switches, so you remain walking forward without having to stop moving to get your bearings
Would be interested to see how Resident Evil could work with a GoW camera, where its like its fixed but on a track above the action

By DY_nasty Go To PostI thought the whole point of shit controls in RE games was to make you feel helpless
Maybe in the old ones. I have never played those. I'm exclusively talking about RE4 myself.
In RE4 it's just a design decision that the game is balanced around. Changing it to something more modern or simpler(even though it's plenty simple) would be like how Twin Snakes recreated MGS1 with MGS2's controls. or how SF4 DS let you do charge moves with a touch screen tap. It breaks the game.

RE4 controls aren't shit at all. They were kind of shit in the old RE games (and the first SH), especially due to the fixed camera on top of the slow unresponsive controls, and it did add somewhat to feeling helpless.
You can move around just fine in RE4 though, and shooting is more than fine, even if you can't run and gun at the same time.

180 turn in RE4 is back + run button. It's not that difficult. lol
By DY_nasty Go To PostI thought the whole point of shit controls in RE games was to make you feel helpless
I never bought that, and definitely don't now. Silent Hill got its act together after the first game and the RE: Outbreak games (classic design and no tank controls, iirc) invalidates that. Not to mention fps horror.
I wish I could watch replays of Titanfall 2 matches in third person. Kill someone, call the titan down, kill a titan, run at another titan, nuclear eject to kill it, land on a rooftop. All of that in about 10 seconds. I don't think I'm using my Titan properly, treating it as something of a bomb to be discarded without thought, but its fun.
RE has great controls, even the older ones IMO. I agree with Retro, if you don't like it that's fine but that doesn't mean it's bad. I never had any issues with it in terms of affecting gameplay. When you look at something like Gears for example, I think those controls are shitty. Sometimes you try to slide into cover but instead you roll, sometimes you get stuck on cover, etc.
Shit controls should be used to describe games where you can't do what you want, when you want.

Shit controls can be anything really. A game can be frustrating in that aspect without necessarily being painted with a 'shit controls' brush. Very rarely does a game get all of it right imo. Some of my favourite games have massive issues with one or two aspects of controls. Roach randomly stopping in TW3, the GTA series post-PS2 being so obsessed with animation that your character turns like a boat (another problem TW3 has), the camera in Jak 2 moving ludicrously slowly, accidentally jumping all the time in FFXV as jump is mapped to the same button as interact, and its really finickity as to when you can interact with things.
I won't even start going on about football(soccer) games, or I'll never stop :P

The original Resident Evil didn't even have aim assist. That wasn't added until the Director's Cut. So you had the tank controls where you're holding R1 to bring up the shotgun and then you're slowly rotating in place to shoot at a target that you sometimes couldn't even see because of the fixed camera angle. All this while you can die from one swipe to the head from a Hunter, and then you realize you didn't have any tape for the typewriter, so you didn't save and have now lost two hours of progress.
The fourth game felt like a revelation when compared to the original.

I'm very much of the 'don't act as though you've been wronged because you don't like the price of a luxury' mindset, but you'd have to be a fucking idiot to convince yourself that its a good thing to have to pay more.
I wasn't going to link the thread but yeah, it's a perfect example of the mental gymnastics of the standard Nintendo fan that is deemed as more acceptable by 'gamers' because you played Pokemon or Zelda as a kid.

Fear was really good when released, trying to go back to it I... Really do not find that much enjoyment.
The later ones were complete poop shit.

Doom was indeed brilliant.
One of those rare games that makes you appreciate a genre (straight up fps) you thought you were long done with.
Maybe someday a game will manage do the same for jrpgs. FFXV had the opposite effect on me, I'm sad to say. #IBlameHitch

I was going to 100% it but then they added all that multiplayer DLC. 'Scust.
As for that Nintendo thread, I wanna know how many Wii U games owned by people who disagree.
Lastly, this Uncharted 4 edition of the PS4 is fugly. It was free, but that don't make it cute. I already prefer using the plain black controller my parents bought separately.
Game of the Year
Gonna try learning how to do small edits on the PS4 captures tomorrow. Wanted to slow it down on the highlights and speed through the rest, but couldn't see the option to timestamp that stuff in the default trimmer on PS4, or in Youtube's video editor. Titan battle was very much two fat drunk men swinging at eachother outside the pub at 2am.
Is the video defaulting to 360p for anyone?

You should ask Firewarrior, he already made a couple of vids for the FIFA club.
Btw. Did you get a TV yet ?
KS series is finally getting cheaper here and I'm really considering it, or the cheaper Sony one.
I finished Journey. It's not long but tbh I found it kinda stressful at the beginning - if I was matched with someone and I went slow, I felt like I was holding them up. If I just moved on I felt like I was ditching them. And then if they just took off it was like "well fine. Forget you then." It actually took me 3 sessions to get through the whole thing.
But the end was pretty spectacular, it won me over with the last third of the game.
I actually quite like that colour for the controller. I almost got it but noooo the girl I was dating at the time wanted the blingey gold instead.

When uploading in 1080p it will often be 360p for 10 to 15 min, until it has processed it. At least all my videos takes some time to not be shitty 360p

nearly fucked up the latest elusive target (food critic in bangkok) in hitman, after lots of scouting i picked out a nice sniping spot, wasn't going to get silent assassin since it involved firing a weapon and the latest target is tough as fuck to get alone
took the guy out but failed to notice a guard was watching the spot, got spotted, hunted down and nearly killed but i managed to find a closet to hide in, had to kill a whole room of waiters nearby to get a new disguise since my old guard disguise was compromised
it was a great experience, in normal missions i usually restart/load when i get spotted but here i was forced to improvise since there's no retrying the mission once the target is killed, got my heart beating like crazy

do the new hitman games still require a ton of self control
im always tempted to just silent snipe someone with a pistol from across the map and walk away

Every person I've been paired with, including the I-have-seen-it-all golden/long scarf types has always been patient and playful. I think the inability to communicate conventionally helps this along. Lovely game. Among the Indie GOATs.
Also, you've made me warm up to the controller. Console is still fugly.

Yes.
Not sure I like Amped Hardpoint at all in Titanfall 2
The pace the game is played at, I don't think you should be rewarded for camping, even if its the smartest thing to do for the objective.

One of the youtubers I follow put Carmageddon: Max Damage on his GOTY list. Maybe I should look at it.
I don't have the money for it right now, but if I wanted to try and get into the Hitman games what's a good one to jump into?
