By Kibner Go To PostTo make sure you know what you are going into, RE 4 is a third person shooter game using the tank controls that are standard to the RE series. It has a hilariously awful script ("Your right hand… comes off?!") with amazing death scenes. It is the type of game where you actually want to try dying in different ways to see how the deaths play out.
It's also just really fun, once you adjust to the janky controls that the game is built around.
By Kibner Go To PostThe dialogue in the game is if you gave a bunch of A-list actors and other film making crew a cheesy 80s B movie script. I love it so damn much.i skip cutscenes by default. is the gameplay any good in 2016?

Once you're close they cant keep track of you if you move around while fighting.
By Professor Beef Go To PostTank controls in 2016Shitty controls are all the rage now. Just look at TLG.
Resident Evil 4 is a better game than 5 and 6. 5 is a rehash of RE4 and only comes semi-close with co-op. 6 has the best gameplay mechanics and does absolutely nothing with them, outside of mercenaries mode. It's campaign is a huge boring mess.
Get 4.
Play 5 with a friend.
Revelations 2 is better than 5 and 6.

By DY_nasty Go To PostRE5 is still probably my favorite co-op experience since Gears of War 1.
Some friends and myself almost fucked up in school playing that when it came out. Lol. Lost mad hours playing mercs mode together.
Playing it solo though...Oh nah.
RE4 is still one of the GOATs. The pacing, the variety, the cheesy 80s film script, the bosses, the fact that Leon gets cockblocked at the end
All of these contribute to one of the GOATs, clearly

I never understood why Leon didn't bang the presidents daughter. All he did was trying to get some looks up to her panties. At least he kept doing that in my game.
I like how they bothered to animated and voice her disgust at Leon during those scenes.
Not that I was trying to look up her skirt.

The answer is simple: Leon is an ass man.
By p s y Go To PostI need a consensus people
4. Pacing and superior design to combat encounters along with the lack of a pointless A.I character.
6 has the best combat mechanics but the complete lack of thought to the combat encounters makes it feel like an open world sandbox sometimes.
4 is a legit top 10 of all time
Would rather play 4 alone than have the best coop experience possible with 5

By p s y Go To Postomg the controls feel like shitit enhances the terror m8
By p s y Go To Postomg the controls feel like shitThe game is designed around them, thankfully. Hold down on your movement stick and hit B/Circle to do an instant 180.
You can shoot a villager in the knee or head to make them stumble and then run up and roundhouse kick their head off or suplex them. It's a good way to conserve ammo.
You can shoot weapons out of their hands as well as shoot projectiles while they are in the air to deflect them.
Those are the biggest combat tips I can remember.
By p s y Go To Posti might have made a mistakeyou play naruto. shit controls are second nature
By p s y Go To Postthanks kibner. You can shoot random crows and shit and they'll drop stuff for you. Ammo, jewels to sell, etc. Eventually, you will be able to upgrade your weapons with that money. Pick your favorites and don't worry about it. If you enjoy the game enough, it has a NG+ for you to go back and try other weapons/strategies.
this is just an unprecedented level of jank.
If you mix a red, green, and yellow herb, it will produce something that will increase your max health. Very much worth saving your yellow herbs to do that.
I always stuck with the bolt action rifle because I absolutely loved the reload animation and couldn't bear to part with it. Especially when you upgrade its reload speed.
Weapon customisation in RE really showed me how important presentation and fonts are. Functionally the system is pretty mmuch the same between 4 and 5, but 4 just felt like it was a much better system to explore. In 4 I'd spend ages trying to decide how to spend my money and which guns to upgrade in which way, whereas in 5 I was rushing through that stuff. Maybe a consequence of playing with someone else as well, nobdy want to be sat there watching someone else piss about in a menu.
Also as I remember it, there was no in-game justification for your weapons getting better in 5, it was just an option between levels.

Honestly, I think I'm about to let my Plus sub run out. I'm not primarily an online gamer, and while I think the games themselves do justify the cost by the end of the year, it's not anything I need. And most months seem to be stuff I just don't care about.
Psy, you can also "trick" some of the enemies in the same fashion that you could with the zombies in the og games. If you walk back after catching their attention, they'll miss their melee strike and leave themselves open for an easy headshot. For as much as the camera changed things, you can "game" the system in similar ways.
RE4 was important for pioneering that camera view. Now absolutely everything uses it. I have no idea how it feels to go back to. The RE: Revelations games give you the straight ahead action game controls, but they lose something in the horror department for that. (That said, I like them).
It's still good.
If you can't enjoy games with tank controls anymore you are wrong and a grotesquely ugly freak.

RE4 still works
Unless you're the kind of person who needs all your video games to play the exact same way.
The controls take getting used to but the entire game is designed around them and their limitations. Adapting to them now is no different than it was at release. The controls aren't archaic, they're just a different ruleset for how you can move your character.

I think alot of that has to do with how well designed RE4's economy was. Money is limited in the game, and how much money you have access to in a run is dependent on your game knowledge. The bulk of your cash comes from missable Treasures, with the most valuable ones coming in multiple pieces that need to be combined for max value.
So deciding what to spend your money on, and when to spend it was a meaningful decision that required a certain level of planning. It's something that I don't think any of the games before or after it quite understood. It's really my favorite aspect of the game and what makes replays so engaging for me.
