By blackace Go To PostI just wish I could have made my character instead of being forced into Geralt… him being basically an emotionaless plank would have made that easy… just the entire package that was him really made me not enjoy the story…
I should have known better tho. Because it wasn't my first Witcher
Geralt is an emotionless plank?
Have you played long enough to have to dispell an enchantment that has been in place since the books? Have you been forced to choose a sorceress? Have you been betrayed by a sorceress yet? Have you been to Kaer Morhen? There are a dozen side quests that demonstrate that he's not brooding like Batman. He's just simply tired of humanity's bullshit, and would be content to never interact with him, but a brotha's gotta fuck bitches and get paid (TM).
By data Go To PostThe Geralt romance stuff and the writing of Ciri all around are sub-Bioware writing. Citi is basically an uber mary sue and Geralt is the kind of male fantasy that would make a harem anime blush. It really brings down the rest of the writing.
Witcher 3 should have starred Roche or Iorveth. Much better characters.
Roche is Temeria's version of Captain America, and you think he's a better character? LoL, Dijkstra runs circles around him, LITERALLY plot-wise.
And you have the audacity to critique Ciri when Roche has Ves as his personal bitch?
Iorveth is so one-dimensional he doesn't even make the cut for Witcher 3 for a cameo.
The only character intriguing enough to overtake Geralt as a potential lead is Letho. Seeing that hardly anyone is interested in inheriting the Wolf school how Lambert reacts to Yen's suggestion that she conduct the Trial of the Grasses is HILARIOUS, Letho still wants to rebuild the Vipers.
If you wanna critique Witcher 3 forreal, the last act is meh AF. But I'm def interested in hearing what game you can come up with that has a better story.
MGS4
TW3 has a good story, except for the Dandelion arc. That part is plodding shit, frankly. Then you get to the end of it and meet a horrendous knobend you're supposed to like, with easily the worst voice acting in the game

Pretty much everything Obsidian has put out is better written than the Witcher 3 for starters. That's not even going into Troika.
The fact that you even cite Geralt's 'ugh I'm so above this' as a characteristic shows just how uninteresting he is as a character. A non committal 'holier than thou' attitude that is just too good for all the mistakes of normal humans. Detached at all times but then expects empathy from the player in the writing when he's not earned it because his lows only exist as minor annoyances at best to make hi mlook more badass.
Dandelion is a bard, not a historian. He'd be worse without the misadventures.
Ciri is not a character who was written for Witcher 3. Many of those characteristics you dislike about her are also in the novels. Her hair is actually supposed to be ashen, but CDProjektRED decided to make it white because reasons, I guess. But yes, she is as well-written as any other person endowed with godlike power.
"Holier than thou" is an odd interpretation of his disposition given that he's faced discrimination--alienated due to his mutations, and many of the jobs he takes exist because of human error. Like, he'd be unemployed if folks would get their act together.
Witchers are traditionally politically neutral, which facilitates the games' so-called "moral ambiguity," which folks praise so much. Geralt himself though isn't expecting empathy; he's just chess piece that you play as in a plot that is much larger than himself. If you think he's pining to be a hero, you also have to remember that he's the Butcher of Blaviken.

It strikes me that the only game I've played made by Obsidian is Fallout: New Vegas. Best story of the modern Fallout games, but that's low-hanging fruit.

By etiolation Go To PostYou've used the link? How decent is the streaming? And did you stream it on hardwire or wifi?I have a mixed connection situation. The Link is hardwired to the router, but my PC is wireless. I have a Nvidia 1070 and use the best quality streaming settings. The total added latency with that hardware and those settings is ~12-17ms (basically, one frame at 60fps).
It is limited to 1080p, 60fps, and doesn't carry HDR, IIRC. It does support surround sound, however. Since the transcoding is done on the GPU (or you can have a slower one done on your CPU), you will want to make sure that you are getting in excess of your target framerate or the latency can triple.
I am happy with the quality of the stream. The only time it looks not-great is if you are spinning your view very, very quickly. It can get slightly muddy when that happens. It isn't common, though, and typically will even only happen when the scene it is trying to render is complex with lots of lines and colors. I rarely notice any other visual artifacts.
It should be said that the quality isn't as good as just a straight up HDMI cable, but the difference isn't noticeable most of the time. The biggest quality difference between using this and hardwired straight to the TV is the latency for rendering. You will want a video card that has hardware stream encoding built in.
By DY_nasty Go To PostThanks for the recommendation RodeoJust don't play it for the story. It's like slightly better than rivers of blood and Lara going from zero to mass murderer, but just barely.

Thinking about adding this is the police to that.
Yeah after going in, I can appreciate the nice visuals and some nice scenery but I don't really like Uncharted 4 that much at all gameplay wise.
The stealth makes the game more difficult and somewhat fun but is still jank.
It wasn't that great as people made it out to be I guess.

I wanna get Ultimate Alliance 1 on Steam while it's still on sale, but apparently people are having controller issues with the game even after all this time? I couldn't find a straight answer in the reviews.
Dov Katz, the head of computer vision at Oculus VR, was arrested near Seattle on December 21 for allegedly soliciting sex from an underage girl. According to charging records, Katz allegedly attempted to pay $350 to have unprotected sex with someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl..
Katz, 38, has been charged with attempted commercial sexual abuse of a minor. According to the charging documents, Katz wasn’t actually texting a 15-year-old girl, but an undercover agent from the Tukwila Police Department. Katz, an Israeli citizen living in America, has since been released on $125,000 bail according to the King County jail website.
Facebook bought Oculus for $2 billion in 2014. According to a profile in The Times of Israel, Katz was “an an integral part of the team that developed the Oculus Rift headset.”
Just so I've got this straight -
1. John Carmack is accused of industrial espionage and stealing design work from Bethesda which becomes Oculus.
2. For some reason they set random fat kid Palmer Luckey up as public face and "inventor." Luckey's girlfriend tweets a bunch of racist nazi stuff, Luckey becomes secret r/TheDonald mod, helps set up and fund trollish Nimble America PAC.
3. Key Oculus tech lead Katz gets arrested for being a pedo.
Somewhere at the end of all this there's a guy in a purple hood building a death ray that only works on feminists, isn't there.

I am worried about the staying power of American Truck Simulator vs Euro Truck Simulator. To my knowledge, nothing is different between the two other than setting. I don't think ETS has stuff like weight stations that are employed in America but all of it is location specific stuff. ETS cities seem to also have a lot more going on overall because they've worked on the game for so much longer. So if you want to play ATS, like me, you mostly want to play it for the truck and settings of the states, which I prefer. But then you look at the ETS community which is more established. It's two seperate teams for the devs but I'd say devs are about half of what keeps the Truck Sim going
1. Euro Truck Sim and simulators in general are extremely popular in Germany and Russia. Probably also more popular in the UK, France, Netherlands, etc than their representation in the States.
2. ProMods, which is the biggest mod for the game that basically quadruples the map size, has already said they're not working on ATS because ETS already takes them too much time to update and maintain. And no one else is picking up the mantle for ATS though, to be fair, most mods would likely wait for ATS to be a little further along before taking such a tremendous project. Not to mention mod supported map expansions like Russia and Hungary that are practically as good as official ones.
So it's pretty much up to SCS to keep this one populated until its big enough to interest modders to come onto it and fix it. It's two different teams but I wonder what the first paid State DLC's sales will be like. I wonder if they eventually add enough countries to ETS that they eventually move more of them over to ATS or if the community for ATS is even worth that much manpower at that point. I know a lot of ETS streamers say they'd show more ATS if there was more to it. The rescale was a step in the right direction but it's still California, it still hits all the same vibes. They need to add some non-deserty locations like Oregon.

To make sure you know what you are going into, RE 4 is a third person shooter game using the tank controls that are standard to the RE series. It has a hilariously awful script ("Your right hand... comes off?!") with amazing death scenes. It is the type of game where you actually want to try dying in different ways to see how the deaths play out.
It's also just really fun, once you adjust to the janky controls that the game is built around.

The dialogue in the game is if you gave a bunch of A-list actors and other film making crew a cheesy 80s B movie script. I love it so damn much.

You guys can keep your Dooms and Tittyfall 2's, you haven't gamed/lived until you've sat in a Suzuki Jeep on the Afrikan plain for two hours waiting for a Kori Bustard to land so you can snap a photo, only for that bird to land and you realize it's the wrong bird you're trying to identify and that you've wasted a huge amount of time on nothing and it's nearly 4 am.
20% platinum completion is by far the highest I've ever seen. Most games are well under 5%. I don't know if that speaks to the quality of the game or if only a few hundred people bought it, but it's something.
The resell value is also well above normal for a game that is enjoyable, but not very good.
