By jjasper Go To PostIt's a marketing tactic. One they have used for 30years at this point. Say you have like 3 million of these things ready to go at launch and you release them all at once. They sell all of those over the course of the holidays but you are able to buy them. You think a lot of these people would care about this damn thing? Vs spreading them over over the next 2 months+ so when you see one you have to buy it because shit everyone is looking for these. It works too. And Nintendo isn't the only company to do this. Lots of them do for a wipe range of products. I give Nintendo a lot of shit for things they do but this is business and exploiting supply/demand.
This doesn't add up, and they haven't been doing it for thirty years, if ever (outside maybe Amiibo). The NES Classic is hot because it's a novelty that looks like a great affordable Christmas gift. The kind of thing you can get for dad. The demand will be nowhere near as high come January/February, the time to sell this thing is right now.
I don't think Nintendo is using a marketing tactic
I think they're just really ignorant about demand for their product. Which is probably worse.

Idk man. I think the more believable thing is that they're super cautious after the Wii-U and didn't expect their release of one of those all in one video game machines that have existed forever to be so in demand.
Oh I don't care. It's why I don't understand why people are up in arms at them or the people going to the ends of the Internet to defend them.
By jjasper Go To PostTell that too my mom when she tired to get me Zelda 2 or an N64
Dear jjasper's mom:
Hi, how have you been? Hope everything's okay with you. Anyway, Zelda II is hard to get due to a 1988 chip famine that caused a lack of availability of SRAM. So maybe hold off until next birthday. As for the N64, don't buy it for him. It's dumb and only has like 5 great games. Get him a Playstation and a copy of Xenogears, along with copies of C.G. Jung's The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious and Robert Haardt's Die Gnosis: Wesen und Zeugnisse so he can understand it. That will keep him busy until the Dreamcast comes out (which won't be hard to find) and he'll have a better life. Anyway, nice talking to you, hope this finds you well.
i mean if nintendo actually cared about how much people wanted the nes classic they would've allowed pre orders
instead just sending it out with like 3 units per store and telling people first one who gets there gets it really seems like artificially increasing demand.
Also Itakagi apprarently said the higher ups at NoA get big bonuses when they sell out an item.

You gonna tell Jjasper's mom not to get an N64 because it only has like 5 great games then turn around and tell her to buy a Dreamcast?

I will list warz you with the Dreamcast and win. N64 was a dumb machine for fat people who think wrestling is real. It's a chunky plastic paywall built around two Zeldas, a Mario & Goldeneye.

Right? lmao
Wait - there are seriously people out there who think that the N64 had a better library as a whole than the Dreamcast? Like, the N64's best games were great, but outside of that the cartridge format killed it. Blurry visuals, crappy repetitive music, and its library was full of licensed games, Acclaim junk and stuff aimed at children. The DC had a lot of awesome AA-tier Japanese development behind it and Sega in desperation max-creativity mode. It was home to perfect ports of every fighter and shmup under the sun, alongside all kinds of amazing Sega arcade games that don't exist anywhere else. It was the only place you could play SF III for years. DC was the best.

Because it's way better brand representation than handing it to Activision or EA to do the terrible things they do with Marvel properties.
I thought ND did a good job with UC4 limiting the combat sections and even encouraging you to avoid some of them with stealth if you wanted. There's a few portions tied to trophies where you can't kill anyone and can't be seen. This was actually a complaint that many people had. They want more shooting.
Yes, the platforming and combat is as basic as humanly possibly, but that's to make the game accessible to the largest amount of people. It's about the adventure itself with cutting-edge visuals. In that regard, I thought ND found a decent balance between combat, puzzles and platforming while weaving their narrative.
TLoU and the DLC on grounded is their game to play if you want a challenge and justification for murder.

Apparently Santa doesn't love them, someone got a bad case of cancer, and now they got leukemia.
So my boy hooked me up with a $280 PS4 Pro over the last week and I can't get it for another month or so, so in the mean time I'm just using remote play through my MacBook Pro.
this is pretty nice for most games, I tried out Rise of the Tomb Raider at 1080/720 and high frame rate for remote play and it runs pretty well far away from the console.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is very very stunning, I might pick up and try the first one too. Coming from primarily playing on PS3/3DS it looks very clean on the 4k visual setting and the 30 fps is fine too.
Don't know about PS+ or not I still don't want to deal with that shit but I'm at least glad that Remote Play isn't PS+ exclusive.
I really want to try that Rocket League and Overwatch game you talk about but I don't really want to pay for online and I don't think it run well through remote play now.

Should I try the uncharted game I never play them yet?
I have issues with things I hear like how the developer treats their workers and how the main character is just a psycho murderer who is selfish and doesn't really go through this struggle with killing other people.
I have this weird thing where I don't really like to kill humans or play games where I explicitly have to kill a person unless there is a real and necessary reason to. I mean I can play it, I just really prefer not to.
Is Tomb Raider like that too? It doesn't seem like it is but if it comes to it I might drop it later.

Have there been any reports of ND mistreating their employees? Other than them fucking Amy Hennig off of course, which was justified by the end product.
Presumably they have the typical crunch pressure cooker, which is unfortunately standard for non-indie games
Think stardew Valley is out on console soon, will buy if it's reasonably priced

Can you play Metal Gear? Because Uncharted is in the same tier in terms of violence, it's not actually that bad. The whole psycho discussion comes up because the game's story is a fun lighthearted adventure, but involves shooting lots of realistic characters. There are a million games that are worse.
I'm glad you're getting good remote play results out of the Pro. I have the base model (white) and it doesn't work well for me. The max is 720p and it chugs on that, even in the same house.
In Metal Gear I always go for a no kill and no alert run, so I feel okay with that because I'm not forced to do it and the point of the game is to try to be as stealth as possible right? The times where I feel gross is where a torture scene is mandatory and I either drop or just skip through it as fast as possible. I hope MGSV isn't that bad in that regards. If remember playing Peace Walker and Snake Eater right I was being able to go through without dealing too much of it.
Oh so I misunderstand for Uncharted game? he is just a thief, he just does not revel and enjoy killing people to steal treasure? Can I just stealth my way through like in Metal Gear? Or does he like feel like shit having to kill people in game? Is it really worth it and necessary to go through 1-3 before 4 if I do play it tho?
From how you guys talk about it you play it cuz it looks pretty and the cinematic is cool.
I don't play first person shooting games or something like GTA either.

You can stealth a ton of the sections in UC4. I tried my best to do so. It's more MGS1/2 and less MGS4/5 stealth mechanics, but they work.

I only get in 1 hour into Tomb Raider so far without needing to shoot anyone so I'll see later in the game. Was told that it is more of a puzzle and survival game that looks really pretty so I wanted to use that to try out the Pro.
Do anyone here with a Pro have any specific recommendations for games that have a really good visual/image quality but also plays well?

He wants the treasure because he's a rogueish adventure-guy, but they usually give him some good-guy excuse, like if the villains get it they'll destroy the world or something. He doesn't even think about the people he kills, he just happily goes off to the next fun adventure scene...the game is like an Indiana Jones movie but with more shooty parts.
UC4 is definitely better if you've played 1-3, but it's written like a Hollywood blockbuster, so you don't need to have played them to enjoy this one. Honestly, if you did go back & play them all in a short time you'd be burned out on the formula well before you got to 4.
By WWCHGT Go To PostThere's nothing in Uncharted as violent as the kills & deaths in TR.
By IWMTB19 Go To PostUncharted is way less violent than Tomb Raider, but the platforming is infinitely worse.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostHaha given what Shun's said so far I'm gonna guess he's quitting Tomb Raider right around hour 3
That's unfortunate...
I'll go play a little longer before I see it then. Maybe the puzzles and the survivability and gameplay will be enough for me to get through it.
I don't think fun and story are mutually exclusive endeavors but I can find something fun and stupid since that's mostly what gaming entails. But I can also criticize dumb narratives and tropes too. At this point one can expect a bit more from the narrative element of a game, there's no real limit anymore to what can be put on screen or loaded up. If a medium is to improve it's nice to point out where it's falling short, especially if the game developers want to be taken seriously as story tellers just as much as game designers. Just sayin'.
