Yea I think the criticism that Nathan kills in no order a small nation of: lifelong pirates, zombies, and trained merceneries/ex-military is valid. To say he's killing innocents? I don't think that criticism holds up.
By reilo Go To PostSo we accept the killing (and flat out reward of killing innocents in the game) in GTA but not Uncharted because Drake is a criminal con man and not a violent felon? Aight.
Also that criticism rings super hollow given that the antagonist in UC4 was a private mercenary group hell bent on killing and destroying everyone in their way, but one would know that had they played the game.
I don't play GTA games, but I got the sense they revelled in their sociopathy as a cathartic outlet. Uncharted's emotive backbone is Romancing the Stone 80s Hollywood adventure/heroism. It definitely creates a different lens through which the violence is viewed.
By Xpike Go To Posti definitely think uncharted suffers from it having to conform to normal "gamey" norms of having to kill a small nation by the end of the game but I blame naughty dog's game design more than anything. Last of Us showed you can have a great game when most sections have 10 enemies at most.
Except that once sequence at the university, where he has to kill wave after wave. I think he shoots like 40 guys in that sequence, it was always the one thing that really stood out as jarring in that game.
Going open world is what ruined MGS. I liked it more when it was just interconnected corridors with a fixed camera and some fucking boss fights.....still not sure why they decided to remove the most interesting and best part of any MGS, the larger than life bosses..
probably the only game that made that open world shit interesting to me was TW3
and *blasphemy incoming* Bethesda

speaking of open world is mad max any good? it is 8 bucks for this sale and I recently watched the movies so I was thinking about it.

Has anyone ever said he was killing innocents? Because the game clearly establishes that he's killing Hollywood baddies. It's more the lack of gravity combined with the volume of deaths. We've become desensitized to stealth sequences, but sneaking up behind 8 guys and breaking all their necks is assassination, and should be kind of a shocking thing, not cause for a close up, wink and a nod.
Like I said, I love the games, but the argument that there's nothing out of place there doesn't hold up for me.

definitely dont go in expecting the kind of quality as the movies
By jjasper Go To Postspeaking of open world is mad max any good? it is 8 bucks for this sale and I recently watched the movies so I was thinking about it.For 8 bucks it's worth it. It's very repetitive and the story's nothing special but its absolutely gorgeous and the combat feels really good. Both the hand to hand and car combat. Hadn't enjoyed hand to hand combat in a game that much since Sleeping Dogs.

There's enough of those games coming out every Fall to last a lifetime.

By Smokey Go To PostYesSo if Nate's backstory was that he was a former cop then it would be okay? Baffling.

The car combat was so fucking fun
By data Go To PostSuch a good game.
Id pay $100 for a Burnout Paradise remaster. That game was so ahead of its time. Especially when it comes to online & social integration. Ridiculous when You think about it.
sleeping dogs was such a great open world game, one of the last i truly enjoyed

I think the core issue is that they recognize people are buying games for action, and they need to be X number of hours long, so shooting occupies a disproportionate amount of the game. Neck snapping animations probably review well internally too. The end result is Indiana Jones shoehorned into a Rambo movie (or is it the other way around?), which is why it feels odd.
Personally I'd like to see the length requirement met with more varied actions, but I'm wrong, and Naughty Dog are right. I'm one of those people that liked Shenmue, a concept that bombed until they made Yakuza and had people randomly assaulting you everywhere you go. ND is giving most people what they want from the game, and guys like me don't matter since we're swallowing our objections and enjoying the games anyway.
By Kibner Go To PostSuch a good game.I need to give it more time. I've been so hooked on my MP shooters and Planet Coaster that I really haven't put much time into FH3.
By reilo Go To PostSo if Nate's backstory was that he was a former cop then it would be okay? Baffling.
rather than a supposedly normal person turned mass murder for funsies because treasure reasons?
yes
By Smokey Go To Postrather than a supposedly normal person turned mass murder for funsies because treasure reasons? That's such an odd line to draw. We all play video games where a ton of the setting is either WWI or WWII, where everyday men had no choice but to participate in the war due to a draft.
yes
Nate choosing to become a treasure hunter instead of a cop like John McClane is just that: narrative. To chastise Nate for being an everyday man is like chastising McClane for being the same and not an ex-military type.
And nothing about Nate's upbringing was "normal". His path was clearly explained in the backstory and why he is who he is. His character progression makes complete sense now that they wrapped it up.
By IWMTB19 Go To PostNate's origin story would have been better as anything else because it was terrible. But you said Adam Jensen is good VA
Adam Jensen's VA is much better than Nate becoming a treasure hunter because A woman had a heart attack right after calling the police on him and his brother and after the woman told them about how their mom liked pirates.
I will not relent on this, that moment in Uncharted 4 (as well as every moment in Heavy Rain) has lowered my standards so much that I enjoy Adam Jensen a lot, mmkay.

By WWCHGT Go To PostBlows my mind that people actually care about video game dude killing people in videogame.
I think a lot of people don't, at least consciously. For the most part my brain just processes it as overcoming programmed obstacles to achieve a win state. But companies pour millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of man hours into games to achieve realism for a reason - we want to translate these experiences more directly back into our own. The most compelling explanation for humanity's fascination with fiction is a combination of vicariousness and rehearsal.

The old woman was their mother's mentor. They weren't there for no reason, she actually had a connection to them. I don't know how you missed this.
... No, I understood it well. It was just such a ridiculous series of coincidences that my eyes fell out of their sockets. Police+heart attack in five minutes was….
But it wasn't a series of coincidences? I don't understand why you think it was. They didn't just randomly land at the house, they knew that their mother's belongings were there and went to find it. Then the old lady realized there was someone in their home and she called the cops. That's the opposite of coincidence. None of that is irrational nor coincidence.

The nintendo die hards unable to understand what Nintendo is doing is comical.
I assume everyone that is selling me something is doing so to make a profit and go from there. Are some of these people not able to look at products through that lense?
I'm playing through Rise of the Tomb Raider right now. Very enjoyable game, but if murder simulator is the criticism against Uncharted, then holy hell this game is Manhunt.

By Professor Beef Go To Post"nintendo is purposefully holding back systems to make a profit!"It's a marketing tactic. One they have used for 30years at this point. Say you have like 3 million of these things ready to go at launch and you release them all at once. They sell all of those over the course of the holidays but you are able to buy them. You think a lot of these people would care about this damn thing? Vs spreading them over over the next 2 months+ so when you see one you have to buy it because shit everyone is looking for these. It works too. And Nintendo isn't the only company to do this. Lots of them do for a wipe range of products. I give Nintendo a lot of shit for things they do but this is business and exploiting supply/demand. Is it customer friendly no but when the fuck has Nintendo ever given a shit about its customers? Never. They are shrewd ass Japanese businessmen.
yeah, because not selling things is the best way to make a profit
