But that calls into question the casting decision when you hire a guy who speaks with a Batman voice all of the time.
BUT
I like Adam Jensen >:(
That voice? Batman.. really? Dude has no bass in real life...

Playing Mafia 3, with all its warts, after playing Mankind Divided just how poorly written Deus Ex was. One game dealt with racial tension and conflict. The other dealt with a horrible scapegoat allegory for racial tension and violence that accomplished nothing.

the lies people tell
As much as I hate to say it, that's a game that would actually benefit from zombies
Wait...are we making the argument that a game can be saved by dialogue but also knocking Uncharted? Because that game's dialogue is frequently fantastic.
that article should be titled something along the lines of "the game the division should have been at launch is finally worth playing"
those dayz clones never leave early access, not sure why ubi didn't try to capitalize on it from the beginning. not sure why most developers don't bother considering dayz to this day still barely gets discounted and sells well. Standalone came out 3 years ago and its still only up for 15% discount. Pretty impressive when you get actual good games that are finished products where people will say "gonna wait for 50% off steam sale"

but it wouldn't have mattered anyways - the game is fundamentally broken. even if you shot zombies, what's the difference between zombies and the mindless bat-wielding runningbacks that you shoot in the head 50 times already?
I was referring more to the PvP Survival DLC they just added which is the reason people started playing again.
also didn't they change the bullet spongeness? i don't own the game but i thought i saw one of the patch notes mention that

Uncharted 4 is over hyped scripted garbage. I'm the undisputed biggest graphics whore here and it's not enough to save that pandering, hand holding, murder simulation of a "game".
TLOU remains NDs pinnacle.

of course TLOU is the better game, and overall experience. goes without saying.
I loved Hayter. He was dumb and cheesy, and it fit MGS incredibly well at least until MGS4. On top of that, he was cheap enough, that they could have lots and lots of easter eggs and funny codec calls in there, something that was horribly missing in MGS5.
That Deus Ex cunt though... Christ. Absolutely hate it.

Another spiky haired character white character who kills thousands and can leap valleys the size of the grand canyon. Yep, that's Uncharted.
You also pre order games and prefer to bathe in console mediocrity and then complain about PC gaming as if you know what you're talking about.
Everyone got their wish and saw Hayter replaced and Kiefer ended up being worse. Granted they also made him mute for the game for whatever reason.

I never asked for this.
NEVER.
I was violently against it, holding my Hayter love doll every night, when not posting about how this would lead to way less cutscenes and codec calls.
I'm with you but people shat on Hayter even though he made Snake his character. People constantly wanted MGS to be something it wasn't (grounded, sensible, A-movie dialog, less story driven, open world).
Well, they got it all in MGSV and well fuck you if that's what you wanted.
Well, they got it all in MGSV and well fuck you if that's what you wanted.
Replacing Hayter seemed like even more of a fuck-up when it emerged that it was the last proper MGS. Keifer wasn't Big Boss, and Big Boss was shite in V.
"MGS should be more like Splinter Cell!"
Hope you enjoyed your lifeless, soulless, and indiscernible tripe that was MGSV, aka the best Splinter Cell game ever.

@Smokey, I just find the murder simulator criticism of Uncharted completely inane. Its dissonant for sure when you think about it, but its not once been in my mind when I've been playing the series, and its a dissonance that seems to be completely ignored in the vast majority of games (and media as a whole) but is suddenly a problem in Uncharted. I guess its pushed to the forefront a little because Nate is presented as an affable everyman yet he commits superhuman acts and kills hundreds of people, but that goes for plenty of characters in games, film and TV who do the same and don't have the criticism levelled at them.
Maybe they do and I just haven't noticed it.

haha yeh the mass-murderer narrative was tripe and tiring when it was a GAF meme recited by people that acted like they were on the spectrum. it still is now.
Killing people is fun. Uncharted is dumb and fun. Yeah, I don't mind the mass murdering.
That said, after UC3 I have a hard time, being excited about ever playing UC4. That is despite me loving the shit out of UC2.

While I've got you here Facism, when my parents went to Turkey they bought back some kind of pomegranete granules which you just mixed with water and it was like a fruit squash. I can't for the life of me remember what its called though, and searching for it just gives me pomegranete flavoured teabags. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about?
By Kibner Go To PostI thought it was just an understood thing for any game where you are killing humanoids. *shrug*
It's not as bad as those animal-cruelty simulators like Pokemon
There's not that much murder in Uncharted 4.
Instead it's filled with just terrible platforming and a fuckton of dramatic moments that fail to be dramatic because of the lack of gameplay control.
I will say that murdering the guards in the cross heist was pretty odd though as they just seemed like random dudes. Didn't really make sense, ND should have put a non-lethal takedown animation in the game for that section.

Couldn't tell you off the top of my head, mate. haven't been to the country in a decade. Will ask the family for you, though.
By IWMTB19 Go To PostThere's not that much murder in Uncharted 4.I presumed that they were the bad guy's personal guards, and they do shoot at you first iirc. Can't remember if its made explicit that they're legit antagonists though. Will say that UC1&2 did a better job of showing you why exactly the bad guys deserved to die. Wonder if you can sneak past some of the encounters in 4.

If they said something like former fugitive Drake or something in his background that would help. As it is he's supposed to be some normal guy who miraculously is the world's best long jumper too. Just doesn't work for me.
By Hitch Go To PostWhat are your thoughts on Indiana Jones, out of interest?
I knew this was coming. I don't have any thoughts, really. Games are interactive, movies aren't. That makes a difference to me.
murder simulator thing is terrible critisism considering nathan is normally getting shot by all those people he kills.
hayter was always great for what mgs is, a half serious half extremely campy spy series, at least until Peace Walker but that was more on the voice director's fault than him, any interview he does now and he can still put up the MGS1 voice any day. Kiefer on the other hand was just completely boring and half of the time having to distinguish between Miller's 14 year old angsty voice, Ocelot's generic cowboy voice and him was just confusing and jarring, especially when there's still extremely campy performances in MGSV like Huey's.

1. I actually get the critique of ludonarrative dissonance in Uncharted, I feel it myself, and I often take the extreme reactions people have to that criticism as an underlying refusal to face either their own desensitization to digital violence - or to the desires that it fulfills. Personally I just learned to turn off the part of my brain that's paying attention because I love everything about the games around it. I get that the humour is there to defuse the violence rather than accentuate it, and it generally succeeds, but every once in a while when he snaps someone's neck then makes a nonchalant down-to-earth-regular-guy joke to his companion it's like, wow. Only an actual psychopath could complete that sequence of events with that response. I've been shooting people in the face since child-me made Hitler's head explode in NES Bionic Commando, but the fidelity of the world and specificity of the characters combined with the attempt to make it lighthearted rather than the tone of an Arnie movie creates a different kind of feeling.
2. I think the majority of gamers love David Hayter, and there was a large groundswell of support for the guy when he was pushed out by Kojima's auteur ego. I never faulted Hayter, he's voicing a Playstation character based on an 8-bit character based on super dumb 80s action movies absorbed by a guy watching them via awful, simplified Japanese subtitles & dubs. The fault to me was always in the uber-corny scripts, which Kojima foolishly ordered to be directly translated - Sir Ian McKellan couldn't save "Do You Believe in Love on the Battlefield?" No actor alive could.
3. I liked Human Revolution a lot. I also thought Jensen's voice was absurd until I heard the actor's normal speaking voice. I haven't played Mankind Divided, I'll wait until it's on sale since the reception was tepid.
Well, yeah. As an experience from beginning to end I'm not even sure how many games top it, period.
But he's ultimately doing it because "treasure is fun!" UC4 gives him a but more of an appreciable motivation, but only just so.

Murder simulator has always been a stupid/lazy criticism. One that basically ignores 75% of all games in existence.
This I can agree with. Basically everything wrong with open world games in one neat package.
Also reading reviews for FFXV. Seems like the combat sucks (which was pretty clear from the platinum demo) and story sucks (which is a FF constant) but yet it is still somehow decent and because it seems to do open world the right way?

So we accept the killing (and flat out reward of killing innocents in the game) in GTA but not Uncharted because Drake is a criminal con man and not a violent felon? Aight.
Also that criticism rings super hollow given that the antagonist in UC4 was a private mercenary group hell bent on killing and destroying everyone in their way, but one would know that had they played the game.

i definitely think uncharted suffers from it having to conform to normal "gamey" norms of having to kill a small nation by the end of the game but I blame naughty dog's game design more than anything. Last of Us showed you can have a great game when most sections have 10 enemies at most.
