Bloodborne is trash. I broke the news exclusively on SLAENT months ago.
Planet Coaster keeps looking extremely impressive. Only a few weeks until release now, hopefully will be good.
I might break my 2 more games for the year rule I made for this... lol

Dude I'm running away from them and climbing up ladders with no idea where to go and no weapon
Just found that an annoying ass way to start. I'll get back to it but give me a weapon and let me mess around with combat
Funny enough by being forced to run so much I was shocked by how much agility i had compared to dark souls 1 and 2

I'm not gonna lie, I think these souls games are the most overrated thing on the internet. "It's hard and you have to master patterns! And you keep dying and have to do it over and over again!" It's like nobody ever played an NES game or something.

It's a lot more sloppy, for lack of a better word, than Dark Souls. The rally system encourages you to overstep your bounds in efforts to regain lost health via attacks. You'll find early on that you'll be mashing your way through enemies until you get a feel for dodges, parries, mid-combo weapon-transformations, charged attacks. Vastly prefer combat in this game to the Dark Souls series, personally.
After you gain your first Insight, the doll in the Hunter's Dream will wake up and you can spend echoes on levels. You will also find the Beckoning Bell infront of the Hunter's Workshop, on the stairs. Coop works differently to Dark Souls that in you have to ring the Beckoning Bell in order to summon other players, who in turn need to be ringing a Small Resonant Bell in order to be summoned to your world. The Beckoning Bell uses a currency called "Insight," which is obtained via items and encountering and defeating bosses. The chances are your first insight will come from encountering the first optional boss.
There are 2 Messenger fountains in the Hunter's Dream. One a short walk away from the doll, which accepts echoes as currency for it's ever-expanding inventory of items, weapons, armours etc. The second fountain, which contains a Small Resonant Bell that lets you join hosts for coop, is up through the Hunter's Workshop in the Dream and through the first door on the left. The Bell is free from the fountain, but usually items found here cost Insight to purchase.
Bloodborne has a lot more scope for getting caught in a fucked position early on compared to Dark Souls games as your coop potential is quite limited due to the insight system plus your healing items being a hard consumable rather than a soft consumabe like Estus is. After you clear your first humanoid boss your blood vial inventory ceases to be a problem as enemies drop plentiful vials and a decent amount of echoes for that point in the game.
I'm not gonna lie, I think these souls games are the most overrated thing on the internet. "It's hard and you have to master patterns! And you keep dying and have to do it over and over again!" It's like nobody ever played an NES game or something.
Sucker for anything (w)RPGish so I played them but I had these EXACT same thoughts...
They are fun and stuff but the reasons you hear that they are so AWESOME is laughable..
I think the Souls' games' difficulty is one of the most circlejerk-y aspects of the series, I definitely play them but because of their great level design, exploration, cool art, etc, but nothing was as difficult as say, Dante Must Die.

Sometimes I thought I was the only one who thought this. Glad to know that's not the case
I always get irritated how those games just can't explain shit simply. Not the lore or anything - but inventory and stuff. Like... just tell me what the fuck thing #12 does. cmon
If anything Souls games just make me want to boot up Dragon's Dogma again.

100%ed New Super Mario Bros., all star coins, all secret exits.
No Star World/Special World? Seriously guys? Huh. That's too bad, I kind of want to keep playing. Hope they put NSMB Wii up soon.

By Dark PhaZe Go To PostThe beginning of a game can't be me trying to kill a werewolf with my bare hands brehsyou can do it
or just die and keep the story going, its the same as any rpg when you have to lose against a boss
you can do it
or just die and keep the story going, its the same as any rpg when you have to lose against a boss
It's poor game design in any RPG that makes a fight you have to lose to keep going..
Not sure how it's poor design, seems like a storytelling choice if anything.
Tell it to me in a cut scene or someway that I don't waste my time trying to beat an unbeatable thing... However, I do give credit to Souls/BB that you CAN beat anything if you do it right... That is cool in itself. I hate a game where I am trying to beat a boss and it's impossible but I wasted time and perhaps items or whatever for something that is decided I can't beat..
You don't try it more than once in Bloodborne iirc
You either cheese it and advance, or you die and advance anyway
You either cheese it and advance, or you die and advance anyway
guys please
it WAS a storytelling choice (in a tutorial level no less), just so they could transport you to the dream world/Hunters limbo to receive your weapons/get recruited. It's brilliant, if you ask me.
and you won't be wasting your time, you die instantly and then you kill him in 2-3 hits.
dying to a particular beast later on gives you access to a new area though. God forbid a developer tries to do something new eh?

By Lupercal Go To PostBloodborne's beginning is shit.that's one of way of describing it I guess. It was brutal for newcomers, a baptism of fire so to speak. Like all games worth playing, it has a steep learning curve.
Once you down the first two bosses and the game opens up and spreads its legs for you, there's no sweeter sight my friend.
except an actual women spreading her legs of course
im being a hater now, but dragon's dogma = awesome, steep learning curve

I actually never got around to playing Dragon's Dogma despite hearing a lot of positive things about it! I don't remember why I delayed playing it for so long till I reached the point of no return/next gen lol
Maybe it had something to do with Capcom and how it looked kinda like an MMO made by Bethesda
not a fan of fetch questing in these type of games either

Well, let me put it this way.
If you played Dark Souls etc.. and you were good at ti (or atleast made it halfway) BB's beginning was great. You had the same feel, some new mechanics but overall it's the same experience.
If you never played it (or were shit at it like me) it sucked :D
I've nearly beaten Dark Souls before a save wipe and am nearly done with Dark Souls 2 on my pc so I'm not a noob to the franchise. I have googled a lot but don't want to do that in BB.
For what it's worth I'm absolutely in love with the aesthetic in BB so I can't wait to dig in, but disliked the intro.
@DY I ran past the werewolf into like 3 or 4 guys with cleavers that eventually killed me after I was running around in circles
I THOUGHT it might have been a story mechanic to kill me and bring me to "home base", which appears to be the case, but after encountering a bunch of locked doors and what not I just respawned to the area again without a weapon. I see now that there's something in that area that might provide a weapon.

This love for steep learning curves reminds me too much of "earn your fun" bullshit. Ideally, games should be as simple as possible to learn. Difficulty should come from having situations where mastery of the quick-to-learn basics is needed to succeed.
Hiding game progression behind player failure is bad design. If player failure is used this way, it should be obvious that failing is beneficial to the player before they are placed in any such situation where it is the most optimal or intended solution.

the only thing that might save TF2 is Target having a B2G1 this week
i feel bad for the people I play Gears on PC with. Can't find a match in anything other than TDM now so they went and bought Titanfall which is going to be another dead game in 2 weeks

Basically. It's like FF13. Oh just wait until you get x amount of hours in, then it's great! Fuk that. If your game doesn't capture me in the first hour or so it's getting uninstall.exe or packed back up to GF.

Did you complete SP? I'm really enjoying it. Outside of a stretch in Act III that dragged on for way too long, it's been fun. Hardcore mode bullet sponges are trash at times tho. On Act V chap 1 now, so I think i should be done with it in the next day or so.
