Actually he barely got any motivation for doing whatever. The characters are almost all bland and shitty, but in the end, I think I enjoyed it a lot. Of course bad characters and bad story can be said for most newer FF games, but it really is just completely forgettable in this game.
Wow, couldn't disagree more. The main character is just about always shitty in FF games, which is exactly why FF XII is GOAT. They were like "you hate our whiny 14 year old fuckboi main characters? Fine then. We're not going to write the whole game around this guy, and you don't even have to use him if you don't want to."

And the other characters bland and shitty? Come on, this game has hands down the best voice acting of any FF. Balthier is like the best FF character ever. Basch was a badass who stayed in my party from the minute I got him. And Fran and her sexy nordic tinged accent....

I just started Mafia III, because it didn't unlock in Japan until today.
But damn, I am really enjoying the first hour or so. Story is tight and cut scenes are well done. Graphics are decent enough for an open end game. If the missions are all the same I could see how it would get boring, but the story already got me hooked.
And being honest, as a black person, a mixed person in fact.. having a story told like this is amazing to me. I have almost never identified with the lead character in most story driven games. I mean a few, but having a "black" story that, so far, is well written and doesn't seem like "this is what we think black people do" has me hyped...

Voice acting is fine, but yeah, I honestly don't remember more than a few names of the characters in the game... or what their motivation was. I don't even remember a thing about the story. Maybe it's overall not so bad though, as not remembering, might mean the characters weren't as annoying as those in FFX or FFXIII.
Fran is disgusting though. Get that furry shit out of my games.
