enjoyed what I played of the original on PC...but it was just so unoptimized that I couldn't continue
I wish more games would collaborate with celebrity talent for voice acting and such. There's no reason John Boyega shouldn't be the protagonist in something like Watch Dogs 2.
Probably costs too much. I know if I was one of the lead roles in the new Star Wars I wouldn't be wasting my time on Watch Dogs 2
Call of Duty can do it because 90% of the budget on those games is spent towards marketing and Conor McGregor/Kevin Spacey are well worth whatever they're paying them.

Ubi is rich as fuck and they could have used a marketing push for the sequel for a game like that where the original had some poor press.
Boyega got paid between 100-300k for Episode VII as a newcomer. Hopefully he got a raise, but he's landing new gigs anyway.

Mafia 3 looks pretty good to me
Not sure I've ever seen a game where the player character shoots with his right hand, and the camera goes over his right shoulder. Looks proper weird, like he's aiming well to the right of where the crosshair is.
Watched some WatchDogs 2 footage, don't really see the massive improvement tbh.

So my PS3 had a hard reset (beep, beep, beep) the last time I shut it off and it gave me a warning that it did not shutdown properly when I went to turn it on. Fine, no big deal, I've had that happen a few times before. You press X and the hard drive does its thing and you're back to normal.
This time though when I loaded up my game (Shadow of the Colossus) a warning appeared claiming that the active profile is not associated with the save file and that I wouldn't be able to save my game or unlock trophies and that I should delete the save if I want to continue.
Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? The system seems fine and no data is otherwise missing.

I wonder sometimes if GiantBomb have lost touch with the average consumer. Culminating in Jeff Gerstmann describing the price difference between a console and a good gaming PC as 'not that big a jump'
Then 5 seconds later just ignores the fact that you can recoup a pretty decent amount of money you spend on console games by selling them. There are millions of people who buy games on disc and don't care to keep them past their use, and there are millions more who would consider the $600 or so difference between a console and a good PC to be a jump not worth taking.
Feel like people in the industry have been wating about 10 years now for people to flock en masse to PC and abandon consoles, yet they're still keen to jump on any opportunity to ask 'who are consoles for these days?' before sheepishly turning a blind eye to the situation when they sell pretty damn well.

PC is never going to take off like that for the obvious reasons. The gaming space is fantastic right now in terms of platform diversity.

Asking who consoles are for these days is a valid question. Long gone are the days of "plug and play" and it's often more of a hassle than PC due do how shitty PSN/XBL are with downloading things. 2K17 had to download a 6GB patch on day 1, shit took me 6 hours. H1Z1 had an update the other day, a little over 5GB. It took me 7 minutes. Basically every game has a day 1 patch now which takes hours to download. (yeah I know "I don't have that issue it's probably your internet connection that lets you download 60GB games in under an hour on PC that sucks") On top of that you have now have upgrades and games looking into adding modding on consoles.
Consoles at this point are weak af PCs.

We'll see how the market reacts to the Pro and Scorpio, and then to PS5 and whatever MS call the Scorpio successor, but its the exact same stuff we heard over and over again in the buildup to PS4 and Xbox One releasing. Who are these for, why wouldn't you build a PC instead, these consoles are just mid-low tier PCs.
Consoles at this point are weak af PCs.
I think that as long as things like Steamboxes aren't viable, consoles are. Millions of people just seemingly want to play modern games, and don't want to pay for or go through the process of assembling a PC. The price difference is huge, and there is still an absolute gulf between the two areas where places like GB seem to think the industry is headed, phones and high-end PCs. Consoles occupy that gulf quite sufficiently, and I can't see that changing yet.
PC games don't have day 1 patches now? A lot of the time they won't even work because your GPU doesn't have a good driver so you gotta wait a week for a firmware release. Not to mention spending lots of time early on trying to get the graphics settings just right.
PC games are the furthest away from "download and play" as I can imagine. Whatever hassle there is around day 1 patches on consoles pales in comparison to the shut show that is a new PC game.

Just how long is it since you've played a pc game?
With Nvidia experience, it is pretty much as download and open up and play as a console. It will even do the settings for you, based on your hardware, you don't need to mess around with the settings for hours, but you can... If you want to. Don't remember the last time I had to wait a week, or even a day, because my GPU didn't have a good driver for the game. Actually I often put off updating the driver and just keep playing new games anyway just fine. The days of waiting for Nvidia or ATI to finally release a driver that makes the game playable are some I barely remember.
Well I guess actually Sim City, but that was purely their servers fault. Servers fucking up happens anywhere.
But yeah, sadly day 1 patches are common anywhere. Xbox live always gave me good speeds, just like Steam and Origin. PSN is fucking shit though, almost always so slow for me.
Of course consoles are still over all a lot easier, to figure out though. Don't have to worry about minimum specs, or to upgrade your hardware (and what to upgrade) on consoles. At most you gotta figure out if you want the PRO version with a few added in features.

You sound like you haven't played a PC game in years tbh. I change drivers all of the time, and can't remember the last time I've had an issue with a game on a driver related issue. And like Wooden said with Geforce Experience, you don't have to touch visual options if you don't want. It will load settings based on your hardware.
Download a game, Geforce Experience for settings, and play the game. That's it. Now, when you want to start downsampling, injecting AA, and those types of things then you're chances of running into some small problem are higher.
Consoles are shit low spec PCs for the most part. There's no such thing as "plug and play" anymore.

What? I've played dozens of games without updating my drivers, all of which are available before the game even releases so even in this hypothetical situation, not sure where you're getting the week from.
Also most games auto-optimize based on your specs, I barely even touch my settings
I literally just install games and play them and at a much faster rate than consoles have allowed me to this gen.
They're still plug and play pretty much
You connect it to the internet as you do any other device, and downloading updates is nowhere near as irksome as people make out. Its a necessary (if unnecessarily slow) annoyance, but hardly one that complicates matters
