Music Festivals 2016: where ya headed
Which music festival has the best lineup this year? Are you going to any?
I went to Bonaroo in 2014 and it was amazing, so I'm thinking of waiting till they announce that lineup before deciding.

I wanted to go to the Roots Picnic but I can't get that time off..... I will probably hit up Afropunk in Brooklyn this year though
For now I've got Best Kept Secret and Le Guess Who? on schedule. Based on previous experiences I can easily buy a ticket without knowing the full line-up yet.

Nothing planned yet. Usually go to either Copenhell or Roskilde Festival, but none of them got any decent band list yet. So will wait and see I guess. Although going to see Converge for the first time at Copenhell does make me kind of want to go, but want something more of interest.
Bonaroo lineup is out there...
LCD Soundsystem, Pearl Jam, Dead & Company (twice), Tame Impala, Death Cab for Cutie, M83, Haim, Chvrches, Miguel, Father John Misty, Tyler the Creator, Vince Staples, Kurt Vile & the Violators, Ween, Blood Orange, Shamir, Mavis Staples, J. Cole, Purity Ring, Big Grams (Big Boi & Phantogram), Dungen, Ellie Goulding, Kamasi Washington, Chris Stapleton, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Twin Peaks, Natalie Prass, Judd Apatow, Hundred Waters, Waxahatchee, Beach Fossils, Leon Bridges, FIDLAR.
There's some good stuff in there, but $400 good, plus the drive? I dunno. Might be tough to convince some of my friends.

By Linius Go To PostRadiohead hnnnng.
Now here's a line-up I like
Thats a great lineup. But I ain't flying to barcelona :/
God, Explosions In The Sky in Barcelona might be an indication that they will be in Primavera Sound Porto. That would make me really think hard about a quick trip to Porto on the weekend.
Radiohead play a festival in switzerland but the other acts are straight up garbage like Mumford & Sons.
still might buy a ticket and leave after the concert.

Been going to Primavera since about 2005 I think. Great festival.
Each day of the festival kicks off around 4pm and finishes up around 7 or 8am - so we tend to just have a few hours sleep, then a big tapas for lunch, bit of time on the beach then head up to the festival.
This site is good for cheap accommodation, http://www.barcelona30.com/

Coachella is on the list for this year, as is Lollapalooza.
I'm seriously considering Primavera. The lineup is just...ungh.

Went to the Porto version last year and absolutely loved it. Would love to go again this year but it will be most likely impossible.
By Linius Go To PostFestival itself it's quite good. Went there in 2011 and 2012.
For just 119 euros this is pretty baller
no idea this year. Need to wait for downloads lineup to fill out a bit more, but then i remember the campsite is always full of metal-as-fuck try-hard tough-guys who don't know how to interact with other people.
Holding out hope Sonisphere happens, the last once was cracking.

Fuck, my fears have been confirmed...Explosions In The Sky at Primavera Porto. I really want to go but it will probably be impossible for me at that time...
Bayreuth.
I wish.
I wish.
By Linius Go To PostNow here's a line-up I likeI didn't even know Drive Like Jehu had reunited.
Wow, that's an amazing deal. I'd pay that much just to see Radiohead live again.
Shit isn't fair how much more these festivals cost in the US.

USA is borderline crazy with their festival prices. No idea why the difference is so huge. In Europe most countries have government money for culture though, festivals also take a share of that. Don't know if that's in the States as well?

This is true. The festivals they have here in Phoenix are pretty garbage. They book a few acts, maybe 1 or 2 decent ones, charge 100 bucks, cram as many people as they can into a tiny space, give the headliners an hour to play and then tell everyone to fuck off. There's no effort to give people their money's worth.
Free Press (Houston) announced their lineup and I actually would go but i'd be in Dallas that weekend. Not too many big people were going to be there that i care about but it would have been semi-nice to see Deadmau5 and see Zed's Dead (again)
that parorama line up suuuuucks
Madlib
Tensnake
all those other people are trash

Went to Sac Music Festival. That's the current name for the old Jazz Festival, which I have been going to since I was a kid. It's not just jazz now, but it's still mostly jazz. Saw a lot of jazz bands from around the country. Some samba styles, some swing and some dixie. Was going to stay for Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, but we needed to head home after about 8 hours there.
Doesn't seem like I will go to any festivals. Will catch the black queen in October though, what a time.
Anyone going to Austin City Limits this year? Probably going to go since I have a buddy who lives in Austin even if the lineup is just so so. Free rent and board :)

Weekend 1 and the lineup is unquestionably the best of any festival I've ever been to. I am absurdly excited about it.
I wish Anderson .Paak was playing weekend 1. :(
