Over. Done. Buried. This was like as perfectly optimized as it could possibly be. Nobody is ever touching this shit unless somebody manages to break the game even further, which would be ludicrous.
The previous world record (set just 3 days earlier by Cosmo) was 18:29. The second best time in the world is 41 SECONDS SLOWER than this new record.

Worth a watch even if you're not into speedrunning. He pulls off a trick that has like less than 10% chance of working around 13:45 on his first try and he absolutely loses it. Shit was insane.

Calling glitching the equivalent of cheating is really silly and shortsighted. The game was programmed in such a way that makes parts of its code exploitable without any external manipulation devices. Just because the developers didn't intend for the game to be played like that doesn't mean it's cheating.
Both of the examples ya'll provided are based on the notion that some participants have an unfair advantage over others, which would indeed be cheating. This is not the case when it comes to utilizing glitches in a video game to complete it as fast as possible where all participants are on the same level playing field. Glitching is not cheating.

it's like driving through the middle of the oval in a nascar race.You have no idea what you're talking about. The glitches this guy is pulling off are much harder than going through the game normally. There are definitely games for which the glitches make for a boring, unentertaining run, or even a nonchallenging one, but this isn't one of them.
I think his old record with this thing was the only speedrun I've ever actually watched all the . It was way more entertaining to see a game utterly broken than to see it played very very optimally. It still takes a terrifying amount of precision to do this anyway.

Perfect straight ahead runs of Ocarina of Time were done a decade ago. Finding these shortcuts keep the speed run scene for a game alive - and reveal interesting things about the game itself. Some of the shortcuts in Super Metroid are nuts.
And I don't even get the complaint - some of these glitches are harder to cause than any challenge the game was designed to present. It's not making it easier, it's upping the difficulty to extra hard mode.

That scene has accepted them as part of the practice. As long as they're not actual hacks where you have to alter the source code via patches etc, i'm ok with it.

I watched Cosmo's run as it happened. It was pretty damn hype. The last segment of it was just him trying to stay calm.
