I can't tell if this article by Kevin Ding is sarcasm or just dumbfuckery:
Playing through pain is good.http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2605802-has-the-nbas-growing-obsession-with-rest-gone-too-far
The challenge enables you to grow as a person and grow your game. The accomplishment inspires those competing alongside you and any others watching from afar.
Alas, we are increasingly a society of softies…definitely so in the NBA today.
After tomorrow, the Knicks have 44 games remaining. Of those, only 13 come against teams in the top 10 in the league. Being in the East and having already played Cleveland/Atlanta/Miami a combined 10 times means that a significant chunk of those games will be in the lower half of the top 10 bracket.
Which means even if tomorrow is a loss - they would still only need to win 9 of their final 44 games to hit 27 wins.
Reilo, do you want to reconsider your 27 or so wins prediction?

Rondo is leading the league in assists and is second in triple doubles. It's not a big surprise that he's getting votes.
I think there's something to be said for playing through pain, but it's completely dependent on the circumstances. No reason for Curry to play in that 3rd against the Lakers or the example they used with Klay. Kobe played through a ton of injuries and pain though so I'm probably a little biased here.
Maybe Anthony Davis and the entire New Orleans Pelicans franchise would be stronger in every way if Davis hadn't been so coddled early in his career.I'm not sure how AD has been "coddled." Isn't he just injury-prone?
Standard issue "things were better back in the day, America is soft" bullshittery.
Gets clicks because lots of dummies reflexively agree that America is getting "soft" and that giving participation trophies to kids is somehow an sign of America's decline.
Davis was injury prone and that played into protecting him. He doesn't guard the thicker, bigger guys. Asik has been a bad choice for years, but he exists to protect Davis in those particular areas. That's the only logic I see in retaining Asik, that he is there to reduce the physicality that AD receives.

There's a lot of reflexive "america is getting soft" shit. sure. But the reflexive "don't ever say anything is ever getting soft bro!" shit isn't much different. It's absolutely a statement of fact that the game is less physical and that practices are shorter and that medical care is better and that players play through fewer injuries. It's completely fine to support all these changes. But to act as if they're not happening or that one couldn't make the argument that it's gotten "soft" is just silly. Of course it has. And that's a good thing for players long term health. But it is what it is.
By PSYCH! Go To PostKevin Ding and Shelbourne are both pretty awful
As usual, the press is complaining about a 'thing' that they created. The press crowned Davis before he had really accomplished anything. They were ready for the AD hype train to ride by his second year. Many parts of the sports press live off of a star and the story lines for the star. They anointed AD, worked him into the advanced stat story lines, and were ready to roll.
But if a player gets anointed and falters or even stalls a bit, then the press will turn on him. The love Blake Griffin got early on easily turned into dismissal when his game didn't grow immediately. Now that Davis isn't winning after the press spent a summer talking about how Gentry would set him free, he gets the wrath that should be directed at their own failed analysis.
By vic Go To PostImagine:
Lillard-McCollum-Rondo…
Hold on, that won't work at all -_-
If I was a former player and I watched players play fewer minutes, practice less, play through less injuries and stop playing because of phantom pains, all while having much better medical care available to them and collecting 10 times higher salaries than I earned - I could see myself getting pissed at the "softness" too.
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahooHollins is gone? So many tears... won't be shed.
The Grizzlies will open a roster spot for D-League Santa Cruz guard Elliot Williams by cutting center Ryan Hollins, source told Yahoo Sports
hollins barely even averaged anything in college as a senior

Rockets G Ty Lawson suspended three games without pay for driving under the influence of alcohol in California.
Lawson's three-game suspension follows his two-game suspension last month for similar driving while impaired offense in Colorado.Did he get another DUI?!
Lawson could also be suspended by the league for another arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated that occurred in Los Angeles in July. After that arrest, a Denver judge ordered Lawson to spend 30 days in an alcohol rehab facility.Ah.
BTW, since this is Kobe's last game in the cowbell kingdom, here's a movie of him jumping over cars atop the Hyatt Hotel a night before a game against the Kings.

General managers seem to have a kind of cushy job. Most of the season they're not doing much, and after the trading deadline, they're doing very little if anything at all
I mean from June 15th ish - October they're working feverishly hard. But much of the rest of the time it's just watching games and fielding some calls.

I'm pretty sure after the trade deadline GMs are focused on scouting for the draft. Lots goes into it. The combine is sometime in May. There's also ton to be done to figure out contracts for the next season and potential roster moves.
I mean, teachers don't work a ton during the summer, but I wouldn't call their jobs cushy, either. Ditto goes for tax accountants after April.
I guess relative to the salary. Much of the research is done by scouts and underlings who report back to them. Their main job is to negotiate with agents once a foundation or culture has been put in place - and much of that doesn't happen in the season. Folks just outright table contract discussions till end of season anyway.
I mean yea, if you're Morey and want to pull the trigger on trades as often as Curry wants to jack up contested threes, then yea the job is nonstop work. But if you make like 2-3 personnel moves during the entire season there's not all that much that goes on from November till June.
Like, what has Mitch Kupchak done over the last two months besides give a couple of news conferences and watch some games?
Put another way:
Owners are usually running multiple businesses at the same time.
Players and coaches are playing or practicing or working every single day.
Scouts are on the road constantly
Analytics people are constantly number crunching
GM's are just sort of - chilling during all this activity.

He gets a bunch of different freak injuries, though, and the organization sides on caution with him and most other key guys.
ASG is a popularity contest and Cousins isn't very well liked, his low vote count makes plenty of sense.

Quick - who said this:
I look at the analytics. Some of it is very worthwhile. Some of it is superfluous poppycock.
By Moris Go To PostASG is a popularity contest and Cousins isn't very well liked, his low vote count makes plenty of sense. But Rondo
Cousins is popular, but not PR friendly. Boogie has a lot of fans. That's the whole deal with the "Kings should trade Cousins.. (to my team hopfully!)" thing.
I was more astonished at Zaza having more votes than him. You cannot say Zaza is more popular player than Boogie. Pachulia's votes are coming from Georgia, where it seems the country is trying to get him in. (He has nearly 100k more than Dirk, so it's not a Dallas thing.)
re All Stars:
I feel the Game and the honor should be separate. They are truly two different things and the animosity comes from pretending they are one in the same. The game is an exhibition for show, just as everything else is during All Star weekend. The designation of All-Star is taken in a different light, so why force the two to be one in the same? Just have an All-Eastern and All-Western team. Then have a Star game via fan votes.

Yeah, owners have the same underlings a general manager does. Usually the GM catches heat before the owner too. Of his list I think coaching is probably the least cushy job.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8TkSZyKnEI - Knicks forcing passes over the Miami fronting defense like amateurs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t6raGt-dyk - Knicks learning the built in automatic designed to beat counter the front and get the ball into the post.
You see Melo waiting and sort of directing it the whole way. This is a team that's learning the counters built in to the offense now.

By PSYCH! Go To PostWhat does the president of Basketball ops do?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the position has other responsibilities beyond player personnel where a GM mostly handles player personnel. Like public relations and shit. If a team has both, the POBO would be higher in the food chain.
