If you've ever had carpet removed you realize just how much awful stuff gets in there and doesn't come out. If you want to have pets, get hard floors you can scrub, vacuuming is still cake so that's not an issue.

My first house was a 1950's home. It had the original wood floors (in pretty decent condition) underneath the carpet. My wife and I didn't know this though. Prior to ripping the carpet out and prior to us moving in, my wife and I rented a steam cleaner and did the house. Didn't matter. When we found out about the wood floors we ripped up the carpet and there was layers of dirt caked onto the wood underneath.

It's laminate but still nice looking. I can't have hardwood because my house is ten feet offs the ground and I was afraid it would bend too much and mess up the flooring.

By Fenderputty Go To PostTruth.Put in some hardwood upstairs before my fam sold a house and as they're ripping up the carpet just the stench was intense. This carpet had been in the home at least 2.5 decades or more. Just gross. The bottom floor had italianate tile installed years prior, at first it was supposed to just be in the kitchen but parents liked the look of it so much it was the entire floor. Great stuff, didn't scratch, scuff or crack when stuff crashed into it. Easy to clean too. If I had the money I'd find that stuff and put that in when replacing a floor.
