Occasionally I buy some music but the bands I really like I either go to their concerts or buy merchandise directly from their online stores. Football matches I have 0 problem in pirating, there's no option for me right now as I don't have a steady location so I can't subscribe to cable as I'll probably move to a different apartment if I have the chance.
I have some problems with pirating games, things like Call Of Duty, FIFA and GTA I don't really care that much but a product like The Witness it really bugs me that people openly admit to pirating.
Blow spent all his money on it, has been working on it for 8 years. It's a very personal project for him and it's good to see a guy working so hard to do something different.
I really can't wait to try the game but on this particular moment, 40$ is too much for me. I will wait until it gets a sale or until l get a little extra money for the game.

Bands are still affected by album sales, even if they do not earn anything directly from them. Their labels willingness to pay them to go on tour, to pay them to make a new album, and so on, largely depends on album sales. Of course there is also completely independent bands, and they do actually make money off the album sales. It's true though that most seem to say they earn most off merch and shows, but that doesn't make it more right to pirate their music as well then.

This is the one that you can kind of justify over the other, it's not locked to one media though. Something like Mother 3 has been with English fan translation for a long time now, and Nintendo has kept on pretty much mocking the idea of a Western release. So even if they do end up releasing the english version in 10 years or whatever, it's hard to feel bad for their lost income.

So it's a big vs small company argument? The money also do go missing here, even with the big companies. It's not Peter Moore who isn't going to get his paycheck when someone pirates fifa, it's the ones lower down the food chain that are going to get fired.
But I agree, I would like to pay for something that does something new and different, way more than I would like to buy a new uncharted game. But that's just personal preference and I think judging the morality of piracy based on the size of the company, is a bit silly.
