I'd consider developed countries in which English is the first language. Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Australia.
NZ is probably where I'll end up if I move. I also have expat friends there though who have been through the immigration process.

Life in Latin America is much more cheaper and you have a lot of free stuff like health care, culture (museums, concerts, etc), education, entertainment. I live with 500$USD per month in Argentina (including rent and services).
But yeah, unless you go to somewhere like Chile, Argentina or Uruguay (countries with a high quality standard of living); you won't be making an upgrade/exchange, except in maybe natural attraction (beaches, in the caribbean).

How would an African American man do in those countries?
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostHow would an African American man do in those countries? In Latin America, racism isn't that much relevant. We all are a mixture of every race basically.
Class discrimination is our equivalent of american racism.
For example in Argentina, the term "negro" is used as a pejorative term to refer to poor people.

By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostI know a few Nigerians and I remember a few years ago Nigeria was on the list of rapidly developing countries. I know it's bad with civil strife, tribal politics, and corruption…… but outside of infrastructure is that that much worse than America right now?Plenty of other rapidly developing nations I'd go to than Nigeria. Vietnam or Brazil, for example. Even China would be better. Nigeria ranks 152nd on the HDI, the US is 8th.

Cuomo is making his move brehs. I expect a lot of Dem's in power to do stuff like this to build themselves up on a national level as Trump goes about Trumping. In the future as Liberal states start working as Sanctuary fiefdoms in the trump years we're going to see drastic differences in the lifestyles of people in America.
Also on the flip..... do you know how much money I owe from going to CUNY and SUNY's
I am getting my MPA from right CUNY now so I might enjoy this near the tail end....Though I will say this its definitely adding to my belief I should say fuck it and get a dual degree with a JD while I am in this program

True, and you have to have worked at the place for 1 year to qualify for FLMA protections, but still miles better than just about every other state. Everyone bitches about state income taxes, but our property taxes are super low and don't have to be reassessed.

New York Gov. Cuomo wants to make free college tuition a reality
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced a plan to make tuition at state colleges and universities free for families earning less than $125,000 a year, a sign that the recent surge in student debt remains a politically potent issue even after the defeat of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.https://news.vice.com/story/bernie-sanders-free-tuition-dream-could-become-a-reality-in-new-york
“This society should say, ‘We’re going to pay for college because you need college to be successful.’ And New York State is going to do something about it,” Cuomo said.

Maybe why that's why Americans love Costa Rica. It's a 5-6 hour flight from LA. Similar time zones too. Lots of US tourism has made the country rather English speaking friendly as well.

Predictable. It would be harder for Dems to stall for 4 years
By Fenderputty Go To PostSo does GOP nuke the filibuster or try and make Dems look bad for obstructing?
They've repeatedly said that they don't want to take filibusters off the table. And, call me naive, but I'm inclined to believe them here.

It seems like a useful tool for the eGOP to keep. If they don't like something Trump or his ilk come up with they can let the Dems block while they save face.

By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostWait can the block a scotus pick? I thought they had no power what's so ever?
We can filibuster the pick. Prior to the election Dems assumed the GOP would nuke the filibuster so they could have free reign. We would have to obstruct for at least 4 years though. From information I gained at the other forum, the constitution doesn't require the senate to approve an appointment just that it's their job. Dems are horrible at messaging these things thiugh

So the goal would be to force Trump to put up a moderate republican?
I hope they do it. Its the least they can do considering the repubs literally stalled to get the pick

Other than not looking like a bunch of limp dicks, I'm not sure what a fight would gain unless they stalled into next term and then nuked the filibuster if they get the shot. Maybe I'm pssemistic, but I don't think stalling for 4 years is realistic or something that the Dems could message well. I don't think this forces the GOP hand short term either but again maybe I'm being pessimistic.
Its not as though the dems couldn't do the same thing. The popular vote did not elect the man that was supported by and is a supporter of foreign manipulation of our democracy.
Its no less insane a message than the reds used in blocking Obama. Just block this thing until you can't. Simple.
Also they need to be every bit as obstructive as Republicans were. Anything to stall trump from doing anything of significance only helps them in the next election.
The days of moderate "when they go low we go high" shit needs to die. Dems need to be every bit as dishonest and ruthless as Republicans when it comes to fighting for their agenda.

Socialist and progressive policies really need to be talked about in another light. The morality of providing a better safety net has always been the emphasis and I think it shouldn't be. Yes--we want to help the lower class, but the message of taking more money from all of us to help "the least of us" is a losing way of putting it. Providing a better safety net isn't done just to provide a better safety net. It's to free more smart people that could do great things if freed from economic burden to specialize in areas of need. A more educated, a more specialized america results in more goods and services of global interest and strengthens the economy, and increased solving of problems and development of new technologies solves issues that drives the species upwards in regards to what is possible--with that ultimate goal being a clean and prosperous earth with increased possibilities in regards to space.
The idea of empowering the 1% via more favorable tax codes so they can be encouraged to keep shitty manufacturing jobs in the states for however long it takes for automation to replace them entirely shouldn't be motivating anyone. 80% of the people working these type of jobs would kill to be doing something else but are trapped down by economic reality.

By blackace Go To PostI have to admit it's amazing how Trump basically trolled everyone
Raise your hand if you've read Art of the Deal! Secret strategies contained inside!
-I am opposed to the DEMs being as obstructionist as th GOP. This eye for an eye stuff is going to leave everyone blind. I'm a scorched earth kind of guy myself if that is necessary for a W, but all onstuctionism would do is validate the GOP as they would, and are already spinning opposition as "against the people." I remind you that the popular vote means zero.
-"When they go low we go high" is not so much an ethical code as it is a moral imperative. I'm having this debate with a peer right now, and she's like FUCK morality; my rights are at stake. I'm like what good are rights if you lose your humanity in the process?
-Normal, everyday US citizens who voted for Trump are now ashamed. Use THAT to your political advantage. Instead of trying to turn DEMs over to GOP strategy, do it the other way, because while you could shift from an Obama to Trump, shifting from Trump to Sanders is delusion.
Is McCain really the Maverick? Will Beck and Megyn Kelly redeem themselves after careers of pushing racist AF agendas? Stay tuned!

Unfortunately I think the multiculturalism of the United States will make any fight for increased social welfare benefits a huge uphill climb. The predominant group is all for increased services for themselves and sees those from other ethnic groups as cheaters or as not even really "American."
The environment was (and is) ripe for someone like Trump to come along and signal heavily against groups of "others" as the danger while benefiting from the assumption that because he's "like them" (read: white) he wouldn't possibly work against their interests.

The thing is, people that are afraid of the message aren't doing so just because of misappropriation by conservatives. The message is almost always completely emphasized in the wrong way by progressives themselves. When is the last time these things were discussed with emphasis on upward momentum of Americans and society as a whole in relation to making money and achieving great things? It never is. It's always about morality and helping the lower class.

Ah, the Gramsci organic intellectual approach where our native talent is being suppressed by the burden of sustaining a basic existence. The hegemony is aware of this, which is why relief will never come. They want a subjugated population.
I work in a hybrid of manufacture. I'm going to ask people on the floor over the next week where they would work instead if they could pick, regardless of social economic boundaries. For the record, average pay for non-leadership personnel is $19.32/hr, and some folks here don't even have HS diplomas or GEDs (but that is a requirement now).
I will hypothesize that most of them dream about not working at all and have not even considered working elsewhere, doing something else.
