Rookie Of The Year
Seriously, who is the front-runner? Is it MCW despite having nearly -1.0 offensive win shares? Did he literally win it the first game of the year and that's that?
I was looking at the rookie numbers and they are so fucking bad still. I guess Plumlee could get it but will he?
I'm asking less who should get it and more who will get it, but you can state your opinions for both.

He carried that team for most of the season and now there's no one to pass to so he's fucked.

Wouldn't complain if Plumlee got it tho.

No one deserves it. MCW has to reverted back to the bad chucker he always was and he'll win because no one has been impressive enough for voters to watch after the first 10 games.
Ben McLemore is still being put on top 10 rookie lists despite doing absolutely nothing on the court at any moment. I mean seriously, he's a guy with a 7.4 PER, zero win shares, and rancid efficiency despite every shot being catch and shoot while playing in a good offense. And he's still getting ranked in this. It is the WOAT draft it was hyped to be with Noel injured.

Oladipo has been worse than Bennett according to Offensive Win Shares!
Tim Hardaway might have a case but I just can't see the Knicks winning anything with their disastrous season.
MCW is shooting under 40%. Has any RoTY ever done that poorly from the field? His numbers have been bad all year outside the first week.

I agree that no one deserves it, really. But someone has to win because of the rules! Would MCW be the worst RotY ever? I'm guessing yes.

Ehhhh.
Timmy can't make a solid case for himself, because he has no defensive presence and it shows in his numbers. Poor steal average, lack of rebounding...and worst of all, for a rookie two-guard, he should be averaging at least 3 assists per 22 mins. He's a solid shooter, and fast on his feet, but that's about it.
Looking at the numbers really makes you wonder why the Knicks deemed him untouchable.

It would be pretty hilarious if a guy with sub-replacement level efficiency playing on a bottom 4 team of all time won RotY after leading them to a 36 game losing streak though.
Fuck that. NBA needs to set a precedent and not even consider handing out ROTYs to guys who can't play any D.

Gun to your head, you have to give it to someone and it has to be the most deserving of this sorry lot. Who is RotY.
Also, lol if MCW wins the award with a 36 game losing streak.
Its pretty much the "who is the least bad rookie of the year award".
Bennett has improved after he looked like the biggest bust ever. Oladipo has had a few big games but looks awful at times. I don't think I've seen Porter play yet. Cody Zeller looks worse then Tyler Zeller. Len barely plays.
Those are the top five picks lol

Gun to head, it's probably MCW. Because if they re-did that draft, he's the one i'd probably take no.1 overall.

Trey Burke because he plays for the Jazz.
I guess Noel and Giannis developing could make this draft look not WOAT down the line, but that the draft's hopes have to be on a guy coming off an ACL tear and a 7/5/2 guy say a lot about it. MCW is already 22 and has too many massive issues that aren't improving for me to think that he's going to be much better in the future. The 76ers' insane pace is also very beneficial for him as he's much better in transition than the half-court.
I think a more interesting question might be how many of the top 7 of the 2013 class make it through all four years of their rookie contracts...
The better question is, DPOTY and COTY.
DPOTY Seems to be falling in the same category as ROTY. Pacers are a v.good defensive team, but they seem to have let up some. And then, who does it go to, Hibbert? George?
Grizz are the other obvious candidate team, but again, Marc? injured too much.
I don't think you could say dwight or Tyson Chandler.
Ibaka might really be the one to win it this year?
COTY to the year to my mind is between Hornacek and Stotts. I'm biased, but i lean towards Hornacek, he has been working with a lot less, and even then, half of them are injured constantly.

Burke's not having a good year, see the OWS posted. Don't be biased. I'm having a hard time not giving it to Plumlee, TBH.
Leave other awards to another thread, please. this is about rookies, we can make new threads! :D
McCollum would run away with it if he played 30MPG, but alas.
Dat 10 PER and .037 ws/48 (and his defensive wins shares are higher than offensive!)
DWS
1. Paul George-IND 5.1
2. DeAndre Jordan-LAC 4.5
3. Joakim Noah-CHI 4.5
4. Roy Hibbert-IND 4.3
5. David West-IND 4.1
6. Lance Stephenson-IND 4.0
7. Kevin Durant-OKC 3.7
8. Dwight Howard-HOU 3.6
9. Andrew Bogut-GSW 3.4
10. Tim Duncan-SAS 3.3
Why not Noah? Bulls are #2 in DRtg and in large part because of him.

Hornacek is gonna be coach of the year. Dealt with injuries, had them overachieving and it's the first year with them and as NBA coach in general. It's a good storyline and deserved I think.
Dat 10 PER and .037 ws/48 (and his defensive wins shares are higher than offensive!)
Durant won ROTY with .040 WS/48.
And if McCollum played 30MPG, it would mean he was with playing a lot more with the starters (rather than Portland's awful bench) which means his WS/48 would go up drastically.
Grizz are the other obvious candidate team, but again, Marc? injured too much.
Grizz defensive stats with and without Marc are pretty significant so you could make a case for it but it will be HIbbert.
I would give ROTY to Hardaway. Sucks he is slumming it with Melo and the Knicks if he wasn't people would talk more about his game (outside of the rising stars game).

Wow, and look at their ages. What's that, only 7 guys 20 or under yet everyone being absolute trash... The talent evaluators really pegged this draft correctly.

Durant won, which he shouldn't have btw, because he scored over 20ppg. That mattered more back then, too.
CJ isn't on pace to do that and he'd score less per 36 if he played with the starters since he'd be the 5th option on offense.
Sure, in this weak ass year it might be enough to put him in the conversation (ignoring how much time he missed) but I don't think it makes him the runaway.
I actually think Horford would beat out Durant on the RoTY award if it was done today instead of back then. It would have been pretty close, at least.
None of the ROTY give a fuck about WS/48 -- as evidenced by Damian winning it unanimously last year. Not sure why you're constantly hung up about that.

I didn't ws there. I said Durant won because of his ppg. CJ can't compare there.
Voters look at efficiency more now though so things like fg% would matter.
CJ has barely played in the nba. Don't think we can draw any conclusions on him yet.
In ROTY voting, i don't think efficiency really comes into anyones mind as most rookies are absolutely terrible in that area, but are given a pass due to their experience.None of the ROTY give a fuck about WS/48 – as evidenced by Damian winning it unanimously last year. MCW plays for my team and I'd still give it to Oladipo....he at least looks like he will get better and contribute to winning. So congrats on being the new Mike Miller
This draft was booty

Mason has started the last few games for us in Garnett's absence and has played very well. I honestly believe that if he had the same playing time as his brother, he'd be in the conversation for ROTY.

I'm not saying dude is roty because I haven't seen any rookie that is clearly better than the others, plus dude is a scorer sure but the knicks have been playing garbage teams lately..... Anyhow the majority of rookies can't play NBA level defense.
I think its going to come down to the wire on who the Roth is.
If MCW, Plumlee, Oladipo, Burke or Hardaway end the season the steongest they will have the best chance to get it.
Based on his last 3 performances...I'd say Timmy is shooting up the ladder quick.
What exactly changed for Tim and his role on the floor to go from a 25% shooter to 60%? That's night and day. Has he been playing more 2 or 3 in these past 3 games?
Edit: Looks like Timmy is currently 3rd on the ladder as of March 12th. After the last two games, I expect him to overtake Oladipo...possibly even MCW. That's a crazy surge from being in the bottom 15, to bottom 10, to top 3. :o

I can't answer this because I haven't been watching that much football.
Speaking of, the Seahawks have won a game more recently than the 76ers.
Havent watched the Magic since late Feb, but based on their previous games I'd have went with Oladipo. Dude is nice defensively, and is big enough to get some nice buckets near hoop as opposed to jacking up errant threes. Crazy to see how bad his offensive win-shares are though.
Just can't give it to MCW because of how baaaaad the 76ers are. Most of us can't watch their games because its over by the third quarter. And while MCW isn't as bad as I thought he'd be based on the summer leagues, he doesn't beat Oladipo in my mind. From watching Knicks games, Hardaway's only positives come from the offensive side of the ball, and thats on a team is painful to watch.

MCW has equaled or gotten the better of Oladipo in pretty much every head to head matchup they've had. Oladipo has much better teammates and the Magic still suck, so I wouldn't hold the 76er's record against MCW.
Real talk, Hardaway is not even as worthy as Plumlee. He is a complete liability on defense, and that lineup where he played alongside Amare was statistically the worst of all the many bad Knick lineups this season. I think he's lost them more games than he's won.

MCW is down to .01 WS/48.
He could really finish the year with negative win shares. It will be hard for him to catch Wroten for most negative offensive win shares in the NBA this year though.

Oladipo's post all-star numbers are quite solid although he's getting to the line less often.
Comparatively, MCW's month-by-month splits are absolutely brutal. He's averaging 5 turnovers a game in March.

Plumlee shut down his older brother last night on his way to a third double double. He's also an underrated passer, he threw a nice alley-oop to Livingston (it's usually the other way around). His development over the course of the season has been a joy to watch, and he's really stepped up since getting the start.
ROTY in my heart.
