Unfortunately he struggled, so that's enough for a death sentence for many of the "pro-police" crowd.
Probably, the other narrative around guns, even sans cops, is that the dead individual somehow provoked it, which I'm always so skeptical of given they're dead and can't defend themselves.

One police officer had his gun in his hand during the struggle.
He then used that hand in the struggle and in doing so, shot the other officer.
The officer that was shot then screamed i'm shot, where'd you get the gun, i'm shot.
Offender screamed he had no gun several times, but continued resisting.
The gun weilding officer then used that hand with the gun in it, again, and another shot went off (though appeared to hit nothing).
The shot officer then withdrew his pistol, and shot the offender 4 times point blank.
