Racially, ethnically, religiously profiling people will eventually lead to people actually stopping some criminals. We don't do it because it's evil and inneficient in solving/preventing crime. Not because there aren't isolated incidents where it wouldn't actually catch someone.
Put another way, even if 3 of the Japanese people in the WWII internment camps were actual spies, it still doesn't justify the internment camps. So saying the neighbor racially profiling in this instance would have prevented the shooting, while probably true, still isn't a justification for adopting a policy of being ok or pushing for racial profiling. Isolated incidents of it working in reality or in theory aren't good enough arguments. But they've always been the right's only argument. Nothing new there.
