Hard to justify that when they haven't been shit with him as the #1 guy.I mean... it's probably safe to say at this point that Cousins isn't going to drag a team to the playoffs by himself. But there are only a handful of players in the league like that (a lot fewer than people think), especially when you consider how stacked the West has been his entire career up to this point.
Like, people here like to talk about Paul George like he's the only quality player on that Pacers team, but even without him last year they did better than Sacramento has the entire time Cousins was there; they have a great defensive center in Mahinmi (and Hibbert a couple of years back was scary good), a good PG in Hill, and a bunch of solid role players (a la the Celtics). And last year David West and Lavoy Allen were solid for them, and they had okay veterans in Scola. They also have front office stability, a good coach, and ownership who seem to have a recognizable plan going forward.
Compare that with Cousins. He's had nothing until this year. Like, Collison was arguably their second best player last year and spent half the season injured. McLemore and Rudy Gay were okay, but role player level. The rest of that team was utter trash. It was every bit as bad as Kobe's 2005 Laker team was. And he's had to deal with the Maloof situation, a new GM, constant coaching changes (including Karl wanting to trade him), and now fans asking for a trade. I'm not saying he's blameless here, but he hasn't exactly been put in a situation to succeed. Without him, the Kings would be garbage tier.
I think ultimately people are just frustrated because they feel like Cousins could be a ton better on another team (hence wanting the Kings to trade him), and that's probably true. But it would make no sense for the Kings. IMO, the problem lies elsewhere (shitty ownership, some bad draft misses, stupid trades like the Sixers first-round pick option, failing to develop / recognize talent like IT) but you can't really do anything about that... might as well blame Karl, because at least that's something you can fix. And besides, even if for whatever reason you did want to trade Cousins, why the fuck would you do it now? Selling low is an awful strategy.
Also, whoever that hating ass dude is in that video, doesn't know what the hell the weakside in the triangle is.
