By rodeoclown Go To PostHow could Ish Smith not get run in New Orleans when their point guard situation is so dire?He got a lot of run when no one was healthy and he was... not good for team. Better than Cole, but the team is better with Holiday or Evans (as much as I hate him and want him gone) running point than Ish.
I need an Ish Smith jersey like yesterday!

By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostBut I thought pace and space was the answer to every question.
Should we answer that?
Every winning team has incorporated elements of that idea. Players are faster, shooting is revived. If everyone does it, then some win, some don't. When 2 gunning teams meet, one loses. What's the triangle doing, right now? Lakers and Knicks are killing it, I bet!
But seriously, can we please encourage 3SP to take that shit in a separate thread?
What the Spurs are doing is just absurd. In any other year, that's all we're talking about.
Like, Leonard might be the best two way player in the league. He's in the conversation.

I'm not sure if this team needs to be "blown up", but they surely won't make the playoffs with Bledsoe going down.
By vic Go To PostI'm watching the first quarter of yesterday's game, the Suns are looking like beggars on the offensive end…I know Sarver is like hell bent on playoffs, but they should probably jettison Morris and Chandler at least.

I'm willing to take on Markieff Morris. I'll give them Kevin Martin's expiring and their choice of Rudez or Payne. Ball's in your court, Phoenix.

So Lakers bros. With the increased confidence Nance has got playing in the first unit, I'm sort of feeling like he should stay on that starting spot and not back to the bench. As it currently stands, I think he's got a better shot and is better defender than Randbull while still being athletic enough to get some rebounds and such. Which leaves me conflicted because I think Randle has a bigger upside, and we see that at times. I also want Russell coming back to the starting lineup but Lou Williams has been playing a ton better lately. Even though Clarkson has been kinda slumping with his hurt ankles and shit, I still want him starting. Him and Russ need time playing together, which they do well at times. Especially since Russell seems to be a ton more comfortable slashing and playing off ball compared to the start of the season. What are your ideal line ups right now? Byron Scott be damned.
Russ/Clarkson/Kobe/Nance/Hibbert
Randle's work ethic is nice and all but he's too big a liability on D even with his solid rebounding instincts. But since we're still in tank mode, I'm cool with him starting.
Bench Of Huertas Lou Young Randle Bass is so terrible on D tho so who the fuck knows.

I was kinda of thinking that starting line up myself. It would be Williams, Randle, Bass and who the fuck knows too lol. Regardless of what we do, our bench is going to be bad on D though. Shit ... Hibbert is really the only one good on D.

By DY_nasty Go To Postpft, im using bball refNBA.com's ratings are apparently more accurate because they use true possession counts. But with that little separation, you can't make any definitive conclusions anyway, IMO.

By Sharp Go To PostDrtg is adjusted for pace, that's like the whole point.
even going by 100 possessions, the style of play is still going to be affected by the pace that one half of the teams are playing at
its just hard to quantify, which is why I dislike ortg/drtg

By PSYCH! Go To Posti don't know anything about the formulas or what not but does pace have an inverse effect on drtg?Drtg and Ortg are both per 100 possession stats. My hunch would be that there's probably some positive correlation between pace and Drtg, because lineups with low Drtg tend to be big and therefore probably can't run as well as smallball ones, but even if that's true it wouldn't be a causative relationship.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Posteven going by 100 possessions, the style of play is still going to be affected by the pace that one half of the teams are playing atI mean, the biggest problem with Drtg is that tracking individual defense based on boxscore stats is kind of a lost cause. And even with SportsVU data, a lot of it is just guessing... like it's assumed that if a player is closer to another player a shot was contested, because their data sets have no idea which way a player was facing, whether they bit on a pump fake, etc. You can use it as a rough estimate if there's a big difference, over a player's career to make broad stroke statements, or you can use it to compare lineups or groups of players (by far the most useful approach).
its just hard to quantify, which is why I dislike ortg/drtg
The lack of stats being able to paint the whole picture is why being a GM isn't a purely numbers game and they have to discern/scout well.
By PSYCH! Go To PostWInslow on court = 96 DRTGFWIW RPM thinks they're about the same on defense (likes Kaminsky somewhat better) but it rates Winslow as the sixth worst offensive player in the league... like Singler, Biyombo levels of "big negative offensive impact on a good team."

I'm not worried though, the few times he's put the ball on the floor or run a pick n roll, he's looked good. he's already our best passer and rebounder at the wing.

Sacramento's roster might be different, but I don't think you can safely call it better.
I honestly don't know why dudes were so bullish on them in the summer. Outside of Cousins, I wouldn't want anybody on that team. Rudy Gay is still doing him, Rondo can't function in a half court offense, Bellineli left San Antonio and his numbers depressed back to his normal, below average career numbers. Like, who do you seriously like there? I guess Casspi is fine? Not to mention that George Karl is checked the hell out and barely coaching.

Playing him on the perimeter has trounced his efficiency. I would think a post offense with movement and cutting would up his efficiency and assists, but they really haven't put much effort into that. It's mostly dribble drive offense with him trying to create from the top of the key.
I'd say his stats aren't empty. The team's output, record, and defense/offense is all better with him on the court over the past few years.
With Cuz, the issue is not getting caught up in the moment. It's not an empty stats issue.
I totally disagree on the roster not being much better. The roster is much better, which shows up in the improved bench production. It's not a good match of roster and philosophy. Karl has to adjust to the talent. For example, Marco is a great shooter, but his shooting % has dropped this year. Most obvious issue is that he's a spot up shooter. Maybe a little pick n roll here or there. But he lives off of curls, coming of screens and kickouts. He's getting stuck trying to dribble create against a defender late in the clock. He's not a dribble drive player. Rudy Gay is the same. His handles are not great. He's best mid-range to restricted line, doing those Gervin-like finger rolls and short jumpers. He can hit a three here or there from the top. The offense has him out of those comfort spots.
You put those players in a system that puts them in their better spots and suddenly the roster looks better. You coach them like they're all 6'7 speed athletes and you get poor results. Many players efficiency is down this year. Many of those players are playing in a different system than last year. It's senseless not to question the system.
Cuz IS bigger than Sacramento right now though. Hard to justify that when they haven't been shit with him as the #1 guy.
I fucks with KP and all but goddamn I wish that fucking idiot Derrick Fisher didn't mess up the tank. smh
Locker room interviews are so weird. I'll just admit I'd have a hard time maintaining professionalism around shirtless athletic men who just showered.
