By Kibner Go To PostThey were an ok team. They were over .500 each of the three seasons between Yao/McGrady leaving and acquiring Harden. They won 35 games before Harden showed up with a roster that had Dragic and Lowry. Not a single player from the season before the Jarden trade is on the team anymore. So, no, you don't build a 45-win playoff squad and then acquire a great talent. I can't recall teams doing that.
e: Maybe I don't understand what you mean by "relevant"?
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostWall would turn Ryno into a gawdRyno is legit shooting over 50% on that step-back this season and I think he has attempted that shot more than anyone else in the league.

And they used the assets on those ok teams to pull in better players in trades.

Lakers won 40+ games, made the playoffs, then acquired Pau.

My point was that you don't build a contender by acquiring the role players first. You go for the elite then build around them. Always.
You know who should make a trade, Ryno for Jennings..... Ryno in SVG's system would feast. Jennings would be the best player AD's ever played with if he was healthy.....

Wasn't your original comment in reference to the Knicks though? They have Melo and Porzingis. Maybe I didn't understand you right though.
By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostWasn't your original comment in reference to the Knicks though? They have Melo and Porzingis. Maybe I didn't understand you right though.Melo is 31 and on a downward decline. He won't be a centerpiece to a contender especially with his contract. It's a player you want to move. The rest of the roster doesn't make much sense because they lack the elite players to be a supporting cast for.
Melo isn't an elite SF anymore, sorry.

Fuck you, Cole, you had a wide-open Anderson on the other side of the court.
If you were to replace Carmelo with the following and keep that team's roster exactly the same, would that team be as good?
Replace Carmelo with Durant on the Thunder? No
Replace Carmelo with Kawhi on the Spurs? No
Replace Carmelo with Lebron on the Cavs? No
Replace Carmelo with George on the Pacers? Maybe leaning to a No
Outside of Lebron, all of those players are younger, cheaper, and better defenders. Lebron is well... twice the player Melo ever was.

Disagree with you entirely. Adding a player of 2008 Pau's caliber to this roster immediately makes them a top 4 team in the east assuming health and fit.
If they somehow got Marc Gasol and George Hill they'd be a top 4 eastern team.
By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostDisagree with you entirely. Adding a player of 2008 Pau's caliber to this roster immediately makes them a top 4 team in the east assuming health and fit.The Lakers don't fit what I described at all. They weren't a bunch of role payers winning 45 games, they had Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom: an all time great and an All Star. Not to mention a healthy Bynum was actually a good player.
I'm talking about a roster full of Afflalo and Lopez types winning 45 games and then landing a Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol in their prime type players to make them a contender.
Monty Williams would have drawn up a play that either had one of the perimeter players driving to the basket (with AD and/or Ryno in position for an OReb), or setting up some really awesome screens to get Ryno or AD open for a jumper.
Two air balls
A fucked up play
The correct play is a long jumper for AD
Miami doesn't used their foul to give
Miami doesn't call a timeout after getting the rebound
pls end this

Odom never made the all star team, nor was he ever worthy in a conference that had guys like Dirk and TD and Pau and KG and the like.
The Knicks have their superstar, he's not Kobe, but we're not talking about 3 straight finals either.
Melo+Porzingis+Afflalo+Marc+Hill + the bench would be a top 4 eastern team and have a legit chance to beat anyone but a healthy Cavs.
By unknown Go To PostAmare never plays, should go back to Phoenix and retire there.agreed

Tyreke with some terrible mental lapses at the end of that game, and in OT.
