LvG has to win the next 2 games to keep his job apparently:

Louis van Gaal is still clinging onto his job as Manchester United manager because club officials want to stand by their word and give him the chance to meet the effective ultimatum he was set, sources have told ESPN FC.
Sources said Van Gaal was told before Saturday's 2-1 home defeat against Norwich City that he had to get at least two wins from the next three games, with United due to play Stoke City away on the Dec. 26 and Chelsea at home on Dec. 28, and he admitted he feared the sack after the weekend's loss.
Sources said some United officials hoped the 64-year-old would resign after that loss and felt they should sack him if he did not.
Van Gaal temporarily remains in the job, however, because of the majority of the hierarchy feel it would be against United club tradition not to stick to their word and give him the chance to win the next two games.

It's probably face saving bollocks and it just affords them more time to negotiate the incoming manager's contract in the background.
Ah well, anything less than a win on Saturday means he's gone. Would quite enjoy having Mou in for the Chelsea game :lol

ESPN FC was told that United also feel it is important to do that because of the good relationship with Van Gaal, and because some are mindful of the likelihood that this is his last job in football and do not want it to end in unnecessarily sour or unfair fashion. So basically Woodward is a coward and wants Van Gaal to resign.
The best case scenario is for Gaal to do the Honourable thing and step down because the next defeat will be his death knell.
Lol confuziz. Why didn't you buy bijenkorf gift cards instead? That's the kind of department store civilised people go to.
its a shame that this is how he may potentially end things. He's had a highly successful managerial career and hope this isn't too much of a blip on his credentials (should he not be able to turn it around)

With regards to human to human relations, man management of sorts, is Rafa the worst in the game today? How can he make so many enemies everywhere he goes?
Does not speak to Isco.
Does not speak to Jese.
Has cut all ties with James.
Terrible relationship with Ramos & Ronaldo.
Like what is wrong with this dude? I know Mou wasn't loved by everyone either, but there were still players out there that would have taken a bullet for him.
There are 3, maybe 4 truly top class managers out there: Pep, Mou and Carlo. One of them is currently available while we employ Rafa Benitez. The fact that it's taking this long to ditch Rafa and hire Mou speaks volumes as to where we are in terms of the club as a whole.
That being said, what a cluster fuck move to ditch Carlo. He was truly meant for us.

carlotti really was the perfect manager for us, only lost la liga by 2 points and reached CL semi-finals while playing good football. we lost because of the lack of depth and just bad luck, he was not to blame. he won la decima and the copa del rey the year before that for fucks sake.
again, fuck perez. nobody wanted carlo gone except for him. not the fans, not the players.

What a run we gave to get back into the league title race, but unfortunately a streak of bad injuries fucked us over. Two points difference with arguably one of the best Barca teams at the time. Carlo had his faults, as all world class managers do, but he really was born to take us into another level. Too bad he wasn't given the transfer window and opportunity to truly build his own team. I'm confident he'll return one day.

The same kind of inane sacking he got at Chelsea. Was sacked in the tunnel no less. His last few jobs sure has been harsh on him. :lol
By flabber Go To PostIt has to be between him and van Gaal.Surely, I mean god damn even before the season had started there was talks that James and Ramos were not getting along with him.
Apparently Nazio are trying to get Agger in the summer, when his contract is up. Sensational. Will fit in well with their neo nazi values.
What a great article by Graham Hunter http://www.espnfc.com/spanish-primera-division/15/blog/post/2766482/why-zinedine-zidane-should-not-take-real-madrid-job

And so this feels like a potentially watershed moment. If the Rafa "experiment" is deemed not to have worked, it will spark a wider public referendum on whether or not the Florentino regime is fundamentally flawed. You could help galvanise that debate and, as such, do your current club a huge favour. Democratise it, modernise it, give it balance, give it a chance at a proper football philosophy.
It's up to you, Zizou mon brave. It's just like your life on the football pitch – time to do the smart, challenging, forward-thinking thing, not just the easy, obvious one.
With the greatest respect, GH

Mou antagonized his starting 11-18 enough to get them to revolt almost all the way into 1 point above the relegation zone.
Gotta give credit where credit is due.
By Killer7 Go To PostApparently Gaal stormed out of press conference after being asked about his future.they really should just fire him and get on with it
if hes lost the locker room why the fuck would you toy with potentially dropping even more points the next 2 games with the top 4 race as tight as it is
Daniel Taylor @DTguardianI'm pretty sure Moyes was given assurances too though.
Press conf lasted 4mins 58secs. Key line pre-walkout: Van Gaal said he had received assurances from Woodward, Ferguson and Gill
He also blamed the media for making up lies. Honestly though, the top journos all got the same story at the same time. It may not have been a brief, but someone from United told them something.
What really settles it for me though is that United sent him out to do this conference without ever stating publicly that they backed LvG. There wasn't a word from them and this conference turned into a car crash as a result. The club have properly stitched him up over this. Hung him out to dry. Proper fuckwit stuff like.

From the Daily Mail.

Has anybody in this room not a feeling to apologise to me? That’s what I’m wondering.
I think I was already sacked, I read. I have been sacked. My colleague (Mourinho) was here already. What do you think happens with my wife or my kids? Or with my grandchildren?
Or with the fans of Manchester United? Or my friends? What do you think? They have called me a lot of times and also Arsene Wenger is saying something about that. So you think that I want to talk with the media now. I am here only because of the Premier League rules.
I have to talk with you. But I can only see when I say something that you use my words in your context. And I want to say only I have tried to lift the confidence of my players. I have done everything this week.
I held meetings with the players with my members of staff, I hold a Christmas lunch, I did a speech and I feel the warmth and support of everybody in Carrington, this AON Training Complex.
But I didn’t feel that in the media and of course I can imagine that you can write about that subject. We are not in a good position but four weeks ago we were first in the Premier League and in four weeks’ time we can be back in that position again.
No I don’t think that you can do that because you have to stick by the facts and when I get calls off Alex Ferguson and David Gill and Ed Woodward because you are creating something that is not good, what is not being the facts, now I have to answer questions. I don’t think I want to do it.
I only say now I am focused on Stoke City, I help my players. I wish you a Merry Christmas and also maybe a Happy New Year when I see you.
Enjoy the wine and a mince pie.
